The Name

Karma had its kiss for Connor in the form of a nasty hangover and even nastier neighbor to deal with in the morning.

He woke up wishing the sun would explode and the weird smell of puke was just his imagination.

Connor groaned into his pillow before begrudgingly rising from his bed. The foggy memories from the night before miraculously filtering back into his head.

"Fuck my life." Connor groaned under his breath letting out a frustrated sigh.

He winced his eyes closed as he got up off his bed, his hand traveled under the fabric of his thin cotton t-shirt to scratch his lower abdomen.

Connor yawned and glanced out the window to see no trace of the sun, he then looked at the clock next to his bed and saw the time blinking at him.

5:45 am

"Oh fuck that, I'm going back to bed." He went to turn back to his glorious bed when movement caught his eye.

He saw Serena moving about her kitchen through her large window she didn't have covered. She was grabbing her shoes and balancing a cup of coffee in her other hand.

A smirk spread across Connor's lip and his phone chimed on his night stand.

He went to grab the illuminated phone, the artificial light making a searing pain ring through his head.

He squinted and groaned trying to read the pop up notification.

one new Gmail.

Connor clicked on it and unlocked his phone.

Subject: welcome to the community, info on our Monday meetings.

Dear Mr. Deluca,

Our Monday meetings start every Monday from 6:30 am to 7:30 am in the community club house. We can't wait to see you and welcome you into our lovely community.

Kindest regards,

Frank Miller (president of HOA)

Conor couldn't help but chuckle at the email and glance out his window at the house next to him.

"I just know little miss goody two shoes goes to all of these." He mumbled and grabbed his shoes.

Connor was trying to convince himself the throbbing of his head was worth the look on his neighbors face when he showed up.

His weak attempt at dulling the hangover included four Advil's and some black ray bans.

He groaned and ran a hand through his hair as he walked up to the club house.

Sighing, Connor opened the door wearing a gray hoodie and plaid flannel over top. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his hoodie and looked around.

His eyes immediately connected with electric blue ones, staring cold spikes into him.

It only made him smile. Connor chuckled and looked over at the man addressing him. He ignored the older mans annoyed tone offering a long yawn instead.

"Have a seat." Frank said pointedly and casted his sharp gaze away from him and to the crowd.

Connor turned to his blue eyed woman and she quickly looked ahead of herself, avoiding him entirely.

Of course this only brought even more satisfaction to Connor as he sauntered up to the chair right besides her, walking past plenty of empty chairs.

Her eyes closed and he heard a sigh sound through her nose. Connor chuckled and leaned back against the plush chair, settling his gaze forward as the man spoke.

"Hey shortcake." Connor whispered in his silky voice. You could hear the sly smirk in his tone, dripping with amusement.

Serena bit her lip and crossed her arms, "I already told you I'm not short and that's not my name."

"Well you are short, I have to look down at you, and I don't know you're name."

"I'm not gonna tell you my name."

"Fine shortcake." He snickered and casted a sideways glance at her.

She huffed, "go sit somewhere else."

"Pretty sure I can sit where ever I damn please. This seat was empty, I sat here."

She whipped her face around to his and narrowed a look at him, "You're so immature, and you smell like stale alcohol and bad choices."

"You're such a tease." Connor turned to her and with his narrowed eyes and flirty grin.

"I don't like you."

"I don't like you."

"Will all side conversations please come to a halt, save it for after the meeting when we all chat and have breakfast." Frank said loudly over their hushed voices. Causing them both to still and eyes to turn towards them.

Connor watched a pink blush fan across her displeased face when she settled her gaze to the speaker, ignoring him.

He chuckled and they both turned to the older man listening to him talk.

Connor had never attended a more boring meeting about the most useless things.

It seemed like an eternity before frank finally said,

"Alright, it's 7:30, I think this was a very productive meeting even if I didn't get to all the topics I wanted to touch on." The old man concluded with a clap of his hands.

"There was more? What, was he gonna discuss what angle to rotate everyone's garden gnomes to?" Connor questioned in a hushed tone.

He heard a noise besides him and looked to his neighbor.

She cleared her throat and rubbed her nose a bit over exaggeratedly, then shot up.

Without even giving him a chance to say anything else she was walking away towards the exit

Connor shook his head and stood up, all the old people were mingling about as they helped themselves to the buffet table.

He planned on leaving right away but he needed to find out one thing first.

Connor walked up to Frank, who was gathering his things, "Hey, so sorry about the whole late thing, I had a question through before you left."

Frank turned around and raised an eyebrow, "hm?what was it?"

"Hey!" Connor called jogging out into the parking lot.

The blue eyed woman stilled by her car door and turned to look up at him as he approached her.

Her wide eyes immediately fell as they were casted upon him.

Connor slowed and took a long look at her piece of shit car. He couldn't help but stifle a laugh and raise a curious eyebrow.

"Oh wow." He said turning to her.

"Kindly fuck off." She said and opened her door.

Conner leaned against her door making it slam closed, "How is it that you live in a neighborhood like this and own a house like yours, yet drive a car on life support?"

"Maybe the same way you manage to live with a personality that's on life support." She shot back making him narrow his eyes.

"Oh ouch, someone needs to teach you manners." His husky voice dropped into a deep tone and he leaned closer to her, "And I gladly volunteer."

Her lips parted slightly as her breathing hitched in her throat, staring into his dangerous eyes. She backed against the car before turning her head quickly and pushing him away.

"Go away. I have manners but not for you, so bye." She opened her door and went to get into her driver seat.

Connor backed up and smirked, "Fine, bye Serena Florence Jade," He spoke her full name.

Serena's eyes widened and she shot a glare at him, "how did you-"

"Frank."

She let out a loud frustrated huff and slammed her car door, starting it quickly she backed up and sped off.

He stood there in the parking lot laughing to himself, feeling a satisfied fire rage inside of him, "Serena," he tried out the name one more time before tossing his keys up in the air and catching them.

He turned towards his black Dodge Charger, knowing he'd won this one.
