Get Out

Shayne

A movement woke me.

Before I could open my eyes, her scent filled my nostrils and I had to swallow a groan that inched up my throat.

As though her delicious scent wasn't enough, when I did open my eyes, the most tempting sight awaited me.

Her fully curved slender body was turned away from me, her back pressed against my chest.

That I could have handled, but the same sweater she'd boasted of its decency had ridden up, past her hips, and allowed me the intoxicating sight of her round ass thrust up right against my groin.

Even as my gaze latched onto the little shorts, I said a silent prayer up to the heavens to be given strength and not to lose control.

When I was finally sure that I'd keep my hands to myself, I pulled my lower half away.

Slowly, I withdrew my arm from under her and winced from the numbness.

A grin formed on my face at the thought of later teasing her about how heavy she was when in truth I could bench press her entire body.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I got off the bed, finally distanced from the temptations. I walked around the bed and watched her sleep.

For a good fifteen minutes, my eyes roamed her gorgeous face, making sure not to look past her neck.

My wristwatch beeped; Four o'clock. Time to head home.

One last look at Olivia, and I was slipping out her bedroom door.

I stood for a second to try and figure out my exit, and also to make sure I didn't bump into a certain verbally abusive woman.

The kitchen and living room area were in one huge, classy and modern room, so it wasn't hard to watch my back and also to locate the front door.

When I was just about to twist the door handle, I heard another door open behind me and instinct had me lunging for the back of a couch.

I could hear footsteps as they headed towards the kitchen. Hoping it would be Olivia, I stealthily moved around the couch to sneak a peek.

Oh shit.

It was a bed headed sourly faced Mrs. Ryans opening the refrigerator to grab a bottle of water. She had on a sheer night dress that had be cringing. And not because she didn't look attractive in it, but because she was simply Olivia's mom and it was extremely awkward seeing her in all this indecency.

I looked away with the urge to scratch out my eyes.

A moment later, I heard the footsteps retreat to the bedroom, and I took the chance to slip out the front door.

"I have a feeling Jonathan Ryans' imprisonment is somehow connected to my own possible future one."

Sasha sat straighter in the seat opposite mine, a look of confusion embracing her face.

I'd called her in immediately I'd gotten to the office. The matter had been roaming in my head for too long and I needed a second opinion, hopefully, one that would contradict my own.

"Look, I'm sorry about what happened to Olivia's dad, but who's to say it wasn't his own hands that caused his situation."

I frowned. "Although we're not sure exactly what he did, I know he didn't do it, trust me."

"And how are you so sure?"

"She told me last night."

A smirk tilted her pouty lips. "Last night?"

I rolled my eyes. "It's none of your business."

She raised her hands in mock surrender before she forced back a neutral expression and folded her arms. "So you believed her just like that?"

"No, but I did some research, and I'm pretty sure she spoke the truth."

Curiosity filled her brown eyes. "What research?"

"I myself couldn't simply go to the internet and find out in detail about Jonathan Ryans' imprisonment, so I asked someone to do it for me. You won't believe what he found."

"What did he find?"

I gestured for her to come around my desk so she could look on the monitor.

When she did, her gasp of surprise bounced around the spacious office.

On the screen was decrypted digital copies of Mr. Ryans case. Oran Demir, the Turkish investor that my idiot lawyer had trusted was listed on the possible suspects in the case.

"Olivia's dad must have been a victim as well."

"Mmhm, but it still doesn't help any if the guy is practically inexistent."

And we'd sorely learnt that when Sasha and I had travelled. Those couple of weeks had been a complete waste in trying to find out the whereabouts of the Turk, and Sasha hadn't been too happy with staying behind for a few more days.

"Thanks to Jonathan Ryans, we could connect some patterns and that might help us find the dickhead."

"That's good. But speaking of dickheads, have you found Jason Long?"

Suddenly overwhelmed and frustrated with everything, I snapped. "No, I fucking haven't!"

As usual, Sasha acted unaffected by my temper. "Just because Olivia left you high and dry doesn't mean you have to snap at everyone else."

And she left my office. Typical Sasha, always leaving with a win. I'd have to beg for her forgiveness later.

It wasn't long before a knock sounded at my door.

"Come in," I bit out.

When I looked up, a stunning willowy body I'd only kept in the furthest part of my memory appeared at the door.

"Ruby," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

The last I'd made contact with those cat-like sapphire eyes, I'd been fuming with rage.

She spoke calmly. "Shayne, it's been a while."

Her waist long silky ginger hair seemed to move around her at it's own accord as she stepped further into the office.

I immediately stood.

"What are you doing here?" I couldn't help the guilt in my voice.

But instead of a reply, she moved out of the way to reveal another woman. The woman looked like she'd just woken up and decided dirty sweats were good enough to walk around in.

Nevertheless, she looked vaguely familiar.

Then it clicked. "It's you, the crazy lady from the traffic." I landed my gaze on my ex-girlfriend. "What's going on?"

"I'm here for our meeting." That honeyed voice that had once made me smile sounded firmer, dangerously close to venomous.

The initial guilt I'd been feeling was replaced by suspicion. "What meeting?" I said, eyes narrowing.

The only external meeting I was aware of for the day was going to be in the next ten minutes, with an attorney and his client. No way was this the so called meeting. Unless...

"You graduated law school?" I said to Ruby, a little taken aback.

The last we'd seen each other, she'd been a year away from getting her JD. But she'd taken the break-up so hard she once threatened to kill herself, damning everything else—including her education. Still, I'd ignored her, and she'd suddenly left me alone. I hadn't heard from her since... well, until now.

A flash of pure hatred crossed her features before she quickly smoothed it out with a tight smile. "Yes I did. The world doesn't revolve around Shayne West after all. Some of us move on with our lives."

"What do you want? Both of you." I asked, turning to the bored-looking woman beside her.

The woman grinned. "I must say, if there's one thing my half-sister knows how to do, it's attract attention from the right kind of eyes."

"You're sisters?" I gestured to both women, my brain trying to put two and two together.

Ruby chuckled deeply. "Me and her, oh god no, I'd rather die. She's talking about your latest bed warmer. I believe her name is Olivia?"

At the mention of Olivia, every muscle in my body went stiff, my heart picking up a pace that should have alarmed me.

"What about her?" I sneered, a guttural instinct to protect Olivia rushing through my blood.

"Relax, we just came for an introduction, no need to get upset," the blonde of the two women said.

Suddenly anxious to lay my eyes on Olivia, I roared. "Get to the fucking point! What do you want with me and Olivia?"

Despite the wariness I saw in her eyes, Ruby spoke calmly. "Fine, since you asked so politely. This is Loretta, your little whore's half-sister. She hired me to do a little damage to the Ryans' reputation, and surprise-surprise, we have a common enemy. Well, kind of, but you get the point, I'm not fond of you, which makes me not so fond of your whore who is Loretta's enemy."

"If you dare touch a hair on her—"

Ruby rolled her eyes. "Oh, calm down. We aren't so stupid we'd get ourselves in jail. All we want is justice."

"Justice for what?"

"You probably already know why my feelings point that way. But for Loretta, you'll have to ask your little wh—"

"You call her that again, and I won't hesitate to snap your neck."

Her voice turned husky. "I always liked it when you got angry, it made me... excited."

"Get out." I was shocked I was able to be incredibly calm.

"No problem, we'll show ourselves out. But if you value your empire and Little Miss Perfect, I suggest you think about our discussion. This is far from over, Shayne. You have no idea what I'll do to you."

I was still shaking with anger five minutes after they left my office. If they thought they could hurt Olivia in any way, then they had another thing coming.

Still, the whole thing was just a little too dramatic and unreal to me. But deep down, I had a feeling that a lot of what was going on was because of those two women.

When the small hand on my wrist watch finally hit nine p.m., I excused myself from a board meeting after I felt I'd participated as much as possible. Even though there were forty-five more minutes of the briefing left.

I'd survived the whole day without giving into the mighty urge to drive to Olivia's place and devour her with my eyes. The urge being fueled by the fact that she wasn't answering my calls or any of my texts for the past several hours.

My heart squeezed even as I pulled into the parking lot of her apartment building. Please be fine, Olivia.

She'd sent me a quick text at seven in the morning, telling me her mom had left for her flight to Italy, and that she'd be gone for a few days.

A shiver went through me at the thought that she would be left alone for too long, no one to help her incase something happened.

I knocked at her apartment door, heart pounding. When I heard nothing for a full minute, I pushed open the door and headed straight for her bedroom, the door left ajar.

Floods of relief so great washed over me when I saw her sleeping peacefully on her bed that I groaned deeply. I wanted to engulf her.

Right there and then, I knew she was a part of me I couldn't live without. Even in such a short time of knowing her, my heart was able to feel pain at the thought of losing her to anyone or anything.
