Athena pov

I pace around the room, taking deep breaths as I do. I cast a glance over at Jax, who is preoccupied with a toy Rome purchased for him. I try not to remember what happened last night. It was the best, but the concern for Lia ranks highest. It's unusual for her not to return my calls. The first day, she asked about Jax every hour and video called him whenever she could, then it just slowed down and now I can reach her.

I make the decision to call Tyler, Jax's father. She did tell me that they were going to travel together. He doesn't answer the phone, and the fact that the call goes through offers a sign of relief that they are okay.

I know that i will not be okay until my worries are put to rest.

"C'mon let's go surprise grandma." I tell Jax. He seems annoyed that i have interrupted his playtime.

The ride is filled with mixed emotions, and I hope when I arrive that Mason has already left for work. I haven't talked to him since he showed up with my mother. She did send me a long text about how disappointed she was with me and how I should change if I want my life to be peaceful and full of joy. I did laugh when I read the text. Leave it to my mother to blame you for the unthinkable.

I wish I didn't have to make the journey to my matrimonial home. Jax he is the one to knock shouting 'Mama'. It isn't long before the door opens and I am face to face with Esme, her face displaying a range of emotions, from surprise to anger. I then take note of her clothing.

"Why are you wearing my dress?" I inquire of her. I've never worn it, but I saved it in the hopes of wearing it on a special date with Mason. It fits her better compared to how it was a bit loose on me.

"Mason bought it for me." She says.

"He lied because it is mine." I say, entering the house without waiting for an invitation.

She rolls her eyes, "Whatever!" She murmurs.

"You have come back to your senses and now want to come back?" She asks.

"Is Tyler here?" I ask her, ignoring her question.

Mason's sister appears, comes to a halt, and smiles at me. I am surprised, she only frowns at my presence, "Tell me you're back and this bitch has to finally leave," she says.

Esme huff, "You are the bitch and you should be at your husband's house not causing chaos at your brother's house." Esme says.

That shuts her up and i am surprised she has no come back.

I try not looked pleased that Mason's sister did finally get her match. I don't like Esme but i like she put her in her place.

Bury yourself into your fears.

"Is Tyler in?" I ask her ensuring i don't enjoy their conflict too much and forget my reasons for this unpleasant visit.

"Why are you with Jax? where is his mother?" My sister in law asks.

"Where is Tyler?" I yell, feeling frustrated that no one is bothering to answer me. My mind feels chaotic with everything that is happening around me. And the more i don't get the answers i need the more fear seeps in me. I know Lia, she would never allow anyone to worry this much about her. She would have texted or called me.

"What is all this..." Mason stops talking when he sees me, his face lights up as he rushes to me. I am surprised when he hugs me and the room goes silent as they watch us.

"Smart girl," He says, "I never doubted that you would always choose us." He states.

Then I notice Tyler joining us. My knees buckle under the emptiness in his eyes. Just like the day I was dragged out of class and told to take my bag to the principal's office. But no one told me anything until I got home from school and found our house full of people. I saved those looks they gave me because I knew I had to keep them sacred in my mind so I could detect bad news from afar.

I do have the patience of his slow steps i push Mason aside and rush to him as Jax beats me to it. He runs to hug his father.

"Where is Lia?" I ask.

He remains silent before his expression return to his normal nonchalant self, "I don't know."

"You were with her." I say.

"No!" I haven't seen her in days.

"She told me you were going with her." He says.

"She lied, she does that!" He says.

I feel uncontrollable rage build in me, he is doing what his brother does to me, gaslighting. And making the other party feel crazy.

"You are the liar here, what did you do to her?" I allow my mind to go where i have been trying to block it. I look down at Jax and i realize what i am exposing him to.

"You sound crazy," He says.

"Where you with Lia?" Mason steps in and asks his brother.

"No!" He denies.

"How long has been missing?" Mason asks.

"She was suppose to come back yesterday and i can't reach her." My voice trembles as i speak.

"She is just running late or just wanted to blow off some steam." Mason says.

I feel a searing rage that no one is taking this serious as i am. This is Lia, she is responsible, reliable and honest. She wouldn't just disappear without a word, she would have told me her intentions. She can't even stay for hours without talking or seeing her son.

"She was your wife and the mother to your child, how are not concerned?" I enquire with resentment.

"She left me, why should i care?" Tyler says.

I shake my head realizing that it will be an agonizing cycle talking to him. I dial her number again and it goes straight to voice mail.

"I have to go report to the police, unlike you i care." I state.

I sent a text to Rome to meet me at the police station. Mason hovers over me and i am sure he saw the text.

"I am coming with you." He offers.
