My God When - S01 E21

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 21

It was very hard for me to let go of Dele. Many people told me he wasn’t the one for me but, it was very difficult for me to admit that fact. He was actually the perfect man for me.

I told God to reveal his true colour to me yet, I didn’t see anything apart from the dream I dreamt where he left me.

Our love waxed stronger.

He wasn’t a fellow that beats ladies. He wasn’t a flirt. In fact, his love for God marveled me.

To me, I didn’t see anything wrong in him being my future patner.

I took him to my parents, my dad received him with gladness but my mum was reserved.

I told her to at least say something. The only thing she could say was that “pray about it very well because I don’t want you to make mistake in life”.

I told her not to worry about that. I believed God was going to work out things very well.

Besides, he promised to stand by me irrespective of what the storms of life may be.

He really spoilt me with money. He bought a lot of gifts for me. I reciprocated that as well. I knew about his likes and dislikes. I knew his favorite food and colour…

He as well knew everything about me except my past life.

One day, he told me he had a confession to make. He told me he would love to see me face – to -face.

He made me to understand that his mother in the village got a woman for him. His mother made it mandatory for him to marry her but, his undiluted love for me made him go against his parents (according to him).

He promised not to settle with the woman because he had no iota of love for her.

I had it in mind to tell Dele my past that same day. I never knew he was going to ask.

“Damilola, I want to ask you a question.” He said.

” Go ahead, my sweetheart.” I replied as I rolled my eyes.

” Dami, do you love me?” He asked.

” Yes, I do. I will forever love and cherish you.” I said.

” You really offended me. I told you a lot about myself. You never talked about your past life to me.

That reminds me, Damilola, I heard rumors about your past life. I was told you almost scattered your ex-boyfriend’s wedding ceremony. I was told you are a lady without a womb. How true is this?” He asked.

” Fear gripped my heart. Is this how I will lose Dele?” I asked no one in particular.

I wanted to tell a lie but there was no hiding place for me. I was silent.

“My dear, will you talk to me?” Dele shouted at me.

I have never seen that side of Dele before. He became furious.

“Dear, will you still love me irrespective of my past?” I asked in fear.

“Love my foot. Look into my eyes and tell me those claims are wrong.” He said.

“Yes, the person is right.” I replied as I told him more about myself.

“You are a cheap thing. No wonder you are still single.” He said.

I couldn’t bear his insult anymore.

“Are you all right?” I managed to ask him. I was furious.

He told me I was insane. I didn’t bother to give him an answer.

“So, you expected me to marry a woman like you without a womb? My mum has been waiting for long to carry her grandchildren. Here I am, with a woman that cannot produce such grandchildren.

It is finished. Dami, it is over.” He said in annoyance.

“Dele, remember your promised to stand by me. Remember you told me we would both fight our battles together on our knees through prayers.

Besides, I love you more than children. You fit into my purpose. My life has never been the same ever since I met you. Sweethe…” He didn’t allow me to finish what I was saying.

” Shut up!! Your mouth is smelling. Who is your sweetheart?” He replied in annoyance.

” You, Dele!! ” I said.

” No, it’s not me. How can I be a sweetheart to a lady that cannot bring forth fruit. How can I be with an empty barrel. Dami or what do they call your name sef, forget about me.

Forget everything that has happened with us. Just forget it. Barren woman. To hell with you. Thank God my mum got a lady for me.

To be sincere with you, the girl is a virgin. She is very beautiful to behold. She has those wonderful features you don’t have. She has a very perfect 8 figure.

“Dele, you don’t mean all these. So, you’re leaving me?”I asked. It was as if I was dreaming.

He didn’t reply me. He stood up and took his leave. I was left alone. I wished it was a dream but, it was a reality.

I cried my eyes out. My eyeballs almost fell from their sockets.

My God, why me?

” Is this how men will leave me whenever they hear my past?” I asked no one in particular.

I regretted my actions while on campus.

Who would ever marry a woman without womb? Who!!!!!

Who would settle for a woman like me?

Age was not on my side. 34 years old lady without a man.

Remember, I once told you that my parents couldn’t give birth to another child. So, I was their only offspring.

The pressure was too much from my dad. His initial intention was to hook me up with his friend’s son but, it didn’t work because the man wanted his soon to marry a virgin.

All my friends were married.

No man to call mine.

Immediately, I remembered my mentor. I narrated everything to her.

“I knew he wasn’t meant for you. Thank God the will of God has been done. Dami, I want you to be encouraged. Your man is coming for you soon. Please, don’t rush.

Spending the rest of your life, I mean more than 30 or 40 years with a man is not a joke. If you marry wrongly, for the next 30 or more than 40 years will be miserable for you. And if care is not taken, wrong marriage can lead to your early grave.

It is not how far, dear. It is how well. It is about settling with the right man.

“Mummy, I remember something.” I said.

” What is that?” She asked.

“Mummy, there is fire on the mountain. Darasimi (Daniel’s wife) told me something. She was in tears. In fact, she told me she was fed up of her marriage…” I said.

So, is that what you want in life? Do you want to endure your marriage?

“No, mummy.” I replied.

So, tell me more about Darasimi’s marriage.

“Mummy, Darasimi told me…
