“Do you really want to do this?”. She stared hard at the gun in his hand.

“You think I can’t kill you?”.

“You can’t kill her”. Bayo walked to her side and glared at his friend.

Daniel staggered back at the sight of Bayo. “What on earth…”.

Ada scoffed.

This woman almost killed me!”. Daniel fired. “Don’t tell me that you are sleeping with her!”.

“She won’t try to kill you again. I promise”.

“And how does that work? I hear you say that rubbish and walk away?”.

“…and will killing her make any difference? It will make you a murderer for life”. Bayo said

“I heard the girl is close to your father. Now that I can find you here, I completely understand”.

“If for all the years that we have known each other you still say this, then that is completely your business”.

“I will protect my father from your father”. Dan grit his teeth.

“Me too”. Bayo gave him a hard look.

Dan fumed and walked away.

Bayo heaved a sigh of relief as they walked back into the house.

Ada smiled. “If not for you, I think Dan would have pulled the trigger”.

“Yeah, you are welcome”. He chuckled.

She searched his eyes. “It feels like it is the first time that you betrayed your friend”.

Bayo nodded. “I will fix it with him later”.

“What if I try to kill him again and maybe I succeed? What will you do to me?”.

“I will have no other option than to report you to the police”.

She scoffed. “You won’t be tempted to kill me?”.

“A murderer is not the only one that kills but also the one that thinks about it. I am not a murderer and will never be”.

He watched her sink into the cushion and smiled to himself.

She caught him smiling. “Why are you smiling?”

“Were you really that lonely?”.

She was confused. “How do you mean?”.

He pointed towards the storehouse.

She closed her eyes in pain when she remembered the mannequin.

“No one will hear about it. Not even my shad…”.

“Get out of my house!!!”.

“Ada I..”.

“I said get out!!!”.

He left.

She grit her teeth.

That was the most embarrassing secret of hers.

She yelled.

Her phone rang.

An unfamiliar number.

She connected. “Hello?”.

“Ada, can you meet me at Zion coffee shop tonight?”. It was a female voice.

Who would ask her to come to Zion coffee shop by this time of the night?

Bayo watched his father from the window as he danced to Sunny Ade’s music at the garden.

Ma Jaiye oni.

Who exactly was Adewale Adedeji?

He remembered when they had joined him at the pool yesterday…

He had watched his father from afar when he was talking to Ada and the expression he had seen on the man’s face was different.

Different from his own version of him.

His mind crawled back to the pitiful Adaeze.

She had bought mannequins to take her off loneliness.

He was going to do all he could to make sure that Adaeze does not think of her problems anymore.

He was going to wipe away her tears.

Someone knocked on the door of his room.

He walked to open.

His stomach churned at the sight of her.

Ufeoma, the daughter of his father’s friend. Chief Brian Efemena.

She has loved him since they were teenagers and they dated while they were in the UK but he just couldn’t catch feelings.

He had somehow avoided her but she still kept sticking around.

She entered his room and folded her hands as she stared into his face. “Who is Adaeze Nwankwo?”.

He was shocked at the name she mentioned.

She made eyes at him. “I heard that she is your new crush. Is she beautiful?”.

He shruggled. “I don’t know about that”.

“Daniel told me that you are sleeping together”.

She was the only person in the shop so she was definitely the one that called her.

It was a classy young lady just about her age.

Ada was embarrassed that she was wearing a cagoule and tracksuit because she didn’t expect the woman to look so classy.

She smiled elegantly at Ada and beckoned her to sit.

Ada sat and observed her closely. “Good evening to you”.

“My name is Elizabeth Ajayi, I am the CEO of Dinah daughters magazine. I am going to be partners with your company for the fish project”.

Ada nodded thoughtfully. She definitely knew a lot about the successful Elizabeth Ajayi.

“Did you read about how I had beaten my father up until he was landed in the hospital and how I broke my ex husband’s manhood when I caught him cheating and how I spent three years in prison?”.

Ada gasped. “I didn’t know about that”.

Elizabeth nodded thoughtfully. “A lot of people only research about Elizabeth Ajayi’s success stories but they don’t dig deep into her scandals. I had a father just like yours but it is just that me and you played different roles despite being trapped in the same game. If my ex husband had killed my two sisters,I would have given his flesh to the dogs to eat. Police station? Are you kidding me right now?”.

Ada stifled laughter. “You seem to know a lot about me”.

“Your fiance is not dead”.

“What???”.

“According to my yesterday’s research, the body stabbed in the fight in prison was not the same as the corpse in the mortuary right now. Those prison wardens that you trusted so much have been bribed by Fred Bakare”..

Ada rose to her feet and yelled.

Elizabeth rolled her eyes. “Lesson number one, lions don’t just yell, they yell into action. I heard that you are Adedeji’s dog? The bastard plans to use and dump you. I will teach you how to make Adewale Adedeji your dog. Are you willing to work with me?”.
