“How’s school? How do you like University life?” my wife asks Sophia.

She takes a spoonful of her fried rice into her mouth and pauses, “School is great, I love the freedom that comes with being on campus. You know how strict dad is, being away from home is like a breath of fresh air.”

“I hope University life doesn’t change you. Remain focused on your studies, don’t entertain the wrong people and be as prayerful as you have been,” my wife advises her. .

To my wife Sophia is a prayerful young woman that is focused. She treats her like she would her own child. If only she knew what this young lady and I have been up to for the past one year.

“Thank you very much mum, I will remain focused. You continue praying for me.”

They continue talking and I grab my phone from the table to distract myself.

After what seems like forever, Sophia finishes eating then she clears the table.

“Thank you so much for the meal mum, I think I should get going now.”

“You know you are always welcome. You drive safely and may the Lord be with you.”

“Amen.”

“I will walk her out,” I say.

“Alright babe. I will go and freshen up before we start our Bible study.”

“Okay.”

I walk Sophia outside, she has her car parked in front of the gate.

“What’s the meaning of this?” I ask handing her the pregnancy test kit.

“I am pregnant.”

“How could you have been so careless?”

“Careless? What is that even supposed to mean? You had sex with me without using protection a couple of times and now that I am pregnant you want to make it look like it’s my fault.”

“You said you were on the pill.”

“I was but shit happened. This is as much your fault as it is mine,” her voice rises.

“What are we going to do?”

“I will get rid of it. You think I want to keep this child? Of Course not, I am only eighteen and I don’t have time for a child. I have school to focus on, remember?”

“So why did you come here? You could have just texted me.”

“You were ignoring my calls and you know I hate to be ignored. I missed you, you know?”

She leans forward and kisses me, I kiss her back briefly before pulling away. “You need to stop playing such games. My wife and your parents will kill us if they find out about this.”

“And so?”

“I am a pastor. A married one for that matter, this relationship could ruin my reputation.”

“I don’t care, I just want us to be together.”

“I think you should go now Sophia.”

She wraps her arms around my waist, holding me just as securely, “I want you so bad right now.”

“Sophia, my wife is inside. She is obviously wondering why I am taking so long.”

Give me a quickie, G,” she begs seductively. She reaches for my pants. But I hold her hand, I enjoy having sex with Sophia but right now is not a good time. We are in front of my house, my wife could walk out at any minute. I wouldn’t want to risk everything I have worked for in one night.

“I will come over tomorrow and you can have me all to yourself.”

“Come on, my love, just a teensy quickie, please!”

“Tomorrow. I will be all yours tomorrow.”

“You promise?”

“Yes.”

“Okay I can wait till tomorrow.”

“The pregnancy?”

“I will sort that one out.”

“Okay, good night.”

She kisses my lips lightly, “goodnight pastor G.”

Then she gets into her car and I wait for her to drive off before I walk back inside.

Monday morning, I wake up way earlier than usual. I have a meeting with Bishop Kingsley and I don’t want to be late. I didn’t tell my husband about it but if all goes well, I will tell him. I don’t mean to lie to him, I am doing this for us.

Cleaning the house I prepare breakfast for Zyair and by the time he walks into the kitchen the table is set.

“Good morning,” he smiles.

“Morning baby.”

“You woke up early and prepared breakfast?” He shoots me a quizzical look.

“I did.”

“What are we celebrating?”

I shrug,” nothing. I am just trying to make up for shortcomings.”

“Okay,” he sits down and I pour him a cup of coffee. “Thank you.”

“You are welcome.”

“What do you have planned for the day?”

“Nothing, I will probably just be browsing the net for job opportunities.”

“Okay, something will definitely come up for you.”

“I hope so.”

We make small talk here and there as he eats and when he finally leaves the house I rush into the bathroom and take a shower.

I try on a few outfits and settle on a lovely black dress with a sheer, delicate lace back. I throw on a red jacket and heels. Then I do my makeup and hair before I leave the house.

I arrive at the church at 8;30 and head straight to Bishop Kingsley’s office. Taking a deep breath, I knock twice on his door.

“Come in,” he calls.

I push the door open and walk in, he looks up at me and smiles, “welcome. I love that you are time conscious, please take a seat.”

“Thank you,” I say sitting down.

There’s a long stretch of silence while I wait for what he has to say. He is staring intently . His gaze is piercing and it’s making me uncomfortable.

“Curses,” he finally says, breaking the silence. “You were cursed by your sister in law. You were never the ideal woman for her brother and she couldn’t allow you to carry his child. That’s why you lost it.”

“What?”

“What kind of relationship do you share with your sister in law?” He asks.

Zyair has one sister, she is older than him. His sister and I don’t relate at a personal level, she’s got an attitude. And what the Bishop has said is true, Zion didn’t want Zyair and I to get married. In her own words we were too young and needed time to grow up.

“We don’t get along,” I respond

“She is the reason you are going through all this. She has tied your destiny, she wants things to be so bad for you and your husband so you will be forced to leave him.”

“But why would she do that?” I ask, my heart is racing and I am ready to confront Zion.

“Don’t confront her,” he says as if reading my mind.

“She killed my child.”

“Vengeance is for the lord. I will pray for you and things will be okay for you and your husband.”

“Okay.”

“I will also give you some anointing oil that you will use for the next 21 days, when you follow all my instructions, the curse will be broken.”

“Thank you Bishop.”

He stands up and starts speaking in tongues for a couple of minutes before he tells me to kneel down so he can pray for me and I do as he says.
