Then with tears welling up in her eyes, Daniella nodded.

“Yes, I understand,” Daniella said trying so hard to prevent tears from falling from her eyes.

“Look Daniella, I know it won’t be easy. But I think things have gotten to the point where you need to start living for yourself. You need to go out there, live your life and catch some fun. And I think it’s best you quit being a housewife and try getting a job for yourself. You know, something to keep you busy. Busy enough to forget about Nathan and his unchanging ways. And don’t forget. I can be of help if you need a little distraction. And you can always count on me if you ever need a shoulder to lean on” Caleb said.

Then blinking her eyes repeatedly while trying to control her tears, she responded.

“Thank you, Caleb. I will keep it in mind” Daniella said.

“Alright then. Enjoy the rest of your day” Caleb said.

“You too,” Daniella said.

And as soon as she got off the call, she buried her head in her palms letting down tears from her eyes.

And just like she had thought, Nathan returned home for the first time after being away for three days only to confront her about what transpired between him and Caleb in his office earlier that day.

That evening, she was in the bedroom when she heard Nathan yelling out her name in the living room.

“Daniella! Daniella!!” Nathan yelled aggressively. Then dropping his suitcase on the centre table, he began rolling up his sleeves. “Where is that shameless whore?” He asked.

Just then, Daniella whose heart was pounding, fearfully walked down the staircase to meet him in the living room.

Then walking into the living room with her voice shaking in fear, she called,

“N.a.t.h.a.n?” She called out with fear. “You are back. Oh my God, I’ve missed you….” She said walking up to him with her arms spread out to embrace him.

“Just hold it there!” Nathan yelled with his hand stretched out.

“Nathan..” Daniela called out with weakness in her bones.

“Tell me, when did it start?” Nathan asked putting both hands on his waist.

Hearing this, tears fell from Daniella’s eyes and with sadness in her heart she said,

“Come on Nathan. Must we do this? For Christ’s sake, you’ve been away from home for the past three days. And Instead of being remorseful or giving explanations for your actions, you are here trying to pick a fight with me. Tell me, when exactly will this stop? When exactly will this….” Daniella was yet speaking when Nathan slapped her very hard on her left cheek for the very first time.

“Jesus!” Daniella exclaimed grabbing her cheek with shock and tears.

“How dare you? How dare you send your secret lover to come confront me in my office? How many times have I warned you not to go about gossiping with my name?” Nathan yelled angrily at Daniella whose body began trembling In fear.

“Nathan….why are you doing this? Why did you slap me? What have I done to you?” Daniella yelled out amidst tears.
