FINALE.

.

They’d only driven for an hour when their driver fell asleep on the wheels.

.

Loud screams had snapped Chukwudi back to consciousness, moments later.

With everything in him, he tried to move but he couldn’t. He made to scream but he couldn’t seem to find the voice to.

Chukwudi in that almost lifeless state could faintly see, as buses pulled up, one after the other, after haven seen the ghastly accident.

Body parts were scattered everywhere.

From all indication, all that the drivers and passengers were trying to do, was search for survivors.

The accident was so fatal, it was no surprise at all that no one in the bus had survived. Besides Chukwudi.

Chukwudi had brought misfortune upon them all.

.

On impact, Chukwudi had been flung far away from the bus, hence the reason no one knew at the time, that there was someone still alive.

Unexplainably, Chukwudi had landed meters away from the crash site.

It’d taken the grace of God for the last batch of road safety officers that’d came to gather the remains of the deceased, to have notice a slight movement in the bush.

They ran to check it out and this was how Chukwudi was discovered.

.

Chukwudi woke up days later, in the hospital.

It took him a while to realize his environment and when he finally did, he wondered how he got there.

He’d made to get up and out of bed when his gaze met with his nemesis.

The Calabash.

His Calabash.

The horror in the eyes of Chikwudi in that moment screamed terror.

He screamed “JESUS!” so loudly, the nurses on duty had had to run in, wondering what was going on.

The first two that’d made it in, tried to hold Chukwudi down.

They’d assumed that a display like “this” was expected of someone who’d been “out” for a while now.

Chukwudi kept pointing at the table next to his bed.

He couldn’t find the words to express his fright.

He didn’t know how to tell them that there was a calabash seated right there and most importantly, what its significance was.

All he did was point.

Scream.

The expression on the nurse’s faces to Chukwudi’s screams and pointing, was that of confusion.

Apparently, none of them could see what Chukwudi was seeing.

Sadative was administered and Chukwudi passed out.

.

Chukwudi woke up to praise and worship songs.

He opened his eyes to behold the “Man of God”.

Apparently he’d found his way to the hospital.

How he managed to, to this day, Chukwudi had not the slightest of ideas.

.

Immediately the praise and worship songs died down, thundering prayers began.

In the midst of prayers, a lot of manifestations occurred.

One of those, was the appearance of about three hundred Calabashes.

Calabashes that began to break into pieces, one after the other to the amazement of everyone.

Chukwudi’s Calabash was the last to break and the second it broke, in that instant, Chukwudi’s phone began to ring.

.

The “Man of God” commanded Chukwudi to pick up the call as he and everyone else continued to mutters words of prayers that could still faintly be heard in the background.

.

“Hello” Chukwudi called out.

“Hello! Is this Chukwudi Obioko?”

“Yes, please who is this?”

“Chukwudi! Do you know you are the most unserious human being I know? How more stupid can a man be. Are you sure you can ever make it in life…?”

Chukwudi was speechless. He had no idea who the person at the other end of his call was nor what he was talking about.

“I don’t know who you are but please, if you are going to insult me, I might have to end this call right now”.

“Chukwudi, my name is Samuel. I am calling you from headquarters, HR department of NNPC. You submitted your CV with us a while ago. For months now, we have been inviting you for an interview but you’ll never respond to either our mail nor text messages. You’ll never pick our calls nor return our missed calls and you don’t want me to insult you? Are you sure you are someone who wants something good at all, out of your life?”

At the point, Chukwudi’s mouth was agape.

This person was sounding too “personal” for his liken. “How dare him?” He thought to himself.

Of cause he had no idea what mail nor text messages this man was referring to.

He remembered that he had applied for a job at NNPC months back, for the umptieth time.

But he also remember always praying, refreshing his email for any update on that application and up until he’d had to travel home to his father, no mail from NNPC had dropped.

He can’t remember missing a call that’d seemed persistent nor forgotten to acknowledge a text message that had invited him over for an interview.

.

Samuel told Chukwudi that the latest interview was scheduled for the next day.

He told him to check his mail for further instructions, before he hung up that call.

.

For the first time since Chukwudi have been praying for a response, he indeed saw a mail from NNPC, inviting him for an interview.

.

Chukwudi went for that interview the next day, but instead of being welcomed and ushered into the waiting room for the interview and maybe ultimately landing that job, he was casted out.

His name was nowhere in the list of candidates that’d been shortlisted to be interviewed that day or anytime soon.

.

This couldn’t have been possible, especially since he had evidence (the phone call and the mail) to that effect yeah?

His village people were still very much at work.

He tried calling back Samuel’s number afterwards but Samuel’s number was suddenly gone.

.

The generational establishment in Chukwudi’s family was too rooted to have just been binded and casted in the city.

.

It took traveling down to Chukwudi’s village, to make a headway.

The battle for absolute breakthrough was not an easy one but it eventually came.

.

Chukwudi became a worker in the church.

It was in this church that he finally got introduced to his destiny helper.

.

It has only been four years since Chukwudi began touching “real money” and you’ll never believe that he’d had to wait for ten long years, for this to finally happen.

You’ll never believe he was at some point ever poor, to begin with.

.

.

Prayers is GREAT, but whilst you’re praying and nothing seems to be happening to that effect, ask (the right people the right) questions.

Sins nullifies prayer requests.

Ask God for forgiveness everyday by genuinely promising never to go back to what you’ve seeked forgiveness for and watch God fight your battles when need be.
