Village people - S01 E04

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 4

Chkwudi came right back after his father had retired for that night, took the calabash that’d been pointed as his, and fled the village that night.

His intent, to run to that “Man of God” with it.

But little did Chukwudi know that, for something as supposedly “little” as a calabash to have had so much hold on his life all these years, moving it wouldn’t be an easy task.

Chukwudi still had enough money left (from what the “Man of God” had given him) to transport himself back to the city.

.

Chukwudi counted himself lucky to have met the last bus before it departed the park that night.

He was the last person to enter. The last person all other passengers had been praying for, to finally come, so their journey could begin.

But little did they know that this supposed “last person”, this supposed “answered prayer” would turn out to be their doom.

Shortly after Chukwudi arrived the car park and had paid for his trip, the car was loaded, passengers boarded and their journey began.

The long trip back to the city had barely began when the first cause of worry, hit.

.

I believe we all already know that, after a car in a Nigerian pack is done loading, it is a ritual that they then proceed to a fueling station, to buy “half tank” (for whatever reason) and then make the same stop, to top up, two to three times (depending on the distance if the journey) before they arrive their destination.

Chukwudi’s car had done exactly the same, shortly after their journey had began but just barely ten minutes after they’d left the fueling station, their car came to a halt.

Every effort to get it back on the road proved abortive.

At first, no one even cared to wonder if it had something to do with the fuel because HELLO! They’d just refilled barely ten minutes ago.

They’d tried all they could to no avail when a passenger had finally suggested that they took a look at the fuel tank.

Surprise Surprise! The car’s fuel gauge was not working.

But No! This was not the oracle at work.

Come to think of it, how many of these commercial cars have a working fuel gauge?

.

Long story short, the car had not even a single drop of fuel left in it.

Everyone blamed the driver for putting the lives of everyone at risk by bringing out a car that its fuel tank leaks.

.

Since they hadn’t gone too far from the park, another car was soon brought in replacement for the first, all the loads were transfered to the new car and they were soon on their way again, in no time.

.

They’d only driven for an hour when their driver fell asleep on the wheels.
