He cried out in pain and stood up from me, turning around and shocked at the sight of sis. Adaobi.

“So it was all a set-up, Esther? Answer me!” He shouted at me while I was at the bed, gasping for air.

“ Get out of this house, or we call in the neighbors.” Adaobi ordered, as he tried to hit her.

“You would not want to be held for two crimes, attempted rape and physical violation?” I said to him, making him hold back himself as he walked away, slamming the door against us. He feared we calling out for the neighbors’ help. It would be disastrous and would go viral.

“ Adaobi, you should not go back. Sleep over here, if possible, until Sunday after submission of this tape. Nkasi is going to know about this. You are not safe with her. Nkasi is not a sister. You can wear my clothes and get a jotter to school until Sunday.” I advised.

“Sure, I am not going back. Nkasi is very dangerous. She gets what she wants at any means.” She said, walking towards the balcony where she hid, and picked up the phone she had left at the window before coming to intervene.

“Play it, let’s listen to it.” I requested.

“Wow! It is very clear. Where’s your laptop?” she asked, as I pointed it to her.

She walked towards the reading desk, dragged the chair next to the reading desk and sat down.

“Your password?” She asked.

“Starrrrrr45” I responded, and continued.

“What are you up to?” I asked curiously.

“I need to save this to as many places as possible. Those two can’t be trusted. We are giving the senior pastor this tape on Sunday before they know about it.” She said, transferring the voice clip to my laptop.

“Yeah! Sunday, nothing is stopping me from submitting this on Sunday. Those two have caused me pains. Do you know I suffered alienation from the members of the church? They stopped talking to me.” I said.

“Surely, you are strong indeed to go through this. Thank God, the truth would come forth on Sunday. I hope the door is locked?” She asked me, scared.

“I’m terrified too o” I said, laughing as I went to check the door.

Not quite a second, I had stepped to the door, did Sis. Nkasi’s call come in.

We both looked at each other surprisingly.

“Pick the call, na.” I suggested

“No! I am going to ignore her. I do not need any form of negotiation.” Adaobi said, ignoring the call.

“I am sure Pastor John must have told her.”

“Stop calling him pastor, please.” She said

“My dear, I can’t help it o. What are we going to eat. Spaghetti your favorite?” I said.

“Yasss! Spaghetti!” She said, excited.

“Adaobi, thanks so much, I deeply appreciate you. You are such a rare, smart lady.” I said hugging her, but sis. Nkasi’s call interrupted again.

“Nne, it is 6 missed calls now. Please pick her calls.

“I do not feel like it. Nkasi is like a sister to me. We have lived together for years, she is in touch with my family, I’m in touch with hers. I do not want to hear her voice to feel sorry for her, thereby dissuading you from speaking the truth on Sunday. Somehow, I have betrayed her.”

“If you say so.” I said, walking to the kitchen to prepare the spaghetti.

At 11:23pm, sis. Nkasi’s mom began calling Adaobi. Already, Adaobi has had 13 missed calls from sis. Nkasi.

“Ada,, please pick up. Let’s know, you can’t be running away forever. Truth is truth irrespective of who is involved.” I said, persuading her to pick the call.

“Hello! Mommy, good evening.” Ada greeted, after picking up the calls.

“Ada, please hold your friend o. Please comfort her. There’s no one close by to help me, o.” Nkasi’s mom kept lamenting.

“Mommy, what is it? What happened?” Ada queried.

“She didn’t tell you? Where are you? Aren’t you in the house with her?” She asked.

“No ma, I went to a sister’s house to spend some days together, ma.” Ada responded as the woman shouted again.

“Let her not hurt herself oo! Oh! My God. God, why me?” She cried again.

“Mommy, what is it? You are getting me scared.” Ada asked with a cracked voice.

“Nne m oo, Nkasi’s father, my husband, is dead. He had a terrific accident today and died at the spot.” She cried so loud that I could feel the pains in her voice.

“ Jesus Christ!” Ada shouted so loud, falling to the bed while I stood there dumbfounded.

“Is this karma or coincidence? Is this God fighting for me? Would this affect my submission of the tape to the church on Sunday or what? What would people say if I reveal the truth at this point of her life where she’s in deep pains? Do I just let go and let nature/God deal with her? Maybe God has started dealing with her for the pains she has caused me?” I pondered.

“Please! Advise me. I’m confused. Should I let go or not? What if I let go, and she still refuses to say the truth? I, then, remain with the stigma?”

“Pray, advise me.”
