Ashewo - S01 E10

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 10

That night, as I ate dinner with Dominic, I couldn’t help but notice how uncomfortable he was with eating with me. Rice kept falling off his phone, and he kept avoiding my gaze.

The thought of his room being locked even though he stayed alone in the house crossed my mind, and I decided to ask.

“Why is your room locked?”

His entire plate fell to the floor as he jumped up. The plate shattered on the floor, with the entire food dumped on the floor.

“I…I…um…I like keeping…em…I like keeping the doors in the house locked,” he stammered while looking like a house help that had been caught taking meat from his master’s pot.

“Why did you jump up at the question as though it shocked you then?” I pried further.

He laughed nervously, and murmured inaudible before he bent and began to pick the shards of glass plate on the floor.

I sat there, watching him, and wondering what it was on his mind that made him act so suspicious, as though ready to run away from me at any time.

As he packed the plates, I heard the sound of a car horn sound outside. Dominic’s eyes were filled with fear immediately, and as he stared at me his eyeballs seemed to become white from fear.

“What is it? Who is at the gate?,” I asked, now panicking.

“Ju..Just…just stay inside. Don’t come out,” he said as he walked out of the house. I wanted to follow him, but there was something about the way he sounded that made me unsure on whether to go outside too.

I sat at the dining, fidgeting with my spoon, and no longer interested in the food before me. After some time, i heard laughter outside, as car engines came to life and drove away from the compound.

Moments later, Dominic came back inside the house, walked past me, and went upstairs. I followed him, wondering what was wrong, but he jammed the door in my face and locked it.

After some time, I heard him sobbing. His voice came out low, but sad as he kept saying,

“Dinma,it’s all my fault…It’s all my fault…”
