I stared at the man, surprised at the audacity he had coming to me to offer my b0dy to him in exchange for my father’s life. What baffled me the most was how calm he was in the house of God asking me to “be his ashewo.”

“Be your ashewo? What is that supposed to mean?,” I asked angrily.

“Well, don’t get me wrong. I don’t want you or your body per say. I want to own the entire you. Your body and soul in exchange for your family’s survival,” he said casually. He continued,

“Look, I know you’re about to explode with anger and begin to tell me to take my offer and take it to hell, but this isn’t the typical Call girl work you see on the street. In this case, you’ll be working with my company. A well organized system with health facilities and good medical doctors, to make sure you remain healthy without any health issue whatsoever. You’ll get a lot of bonuses, like a duplex with top notch security which you’ll get to share with just one other girl, you’ll get your own car, and a weekly allowance of 150,000 Naira. Note that you only have to be with a customer twice a week. You take the rest of the week off. You will work with us for a mandatory six months, and after that, we’ll let you go if you choose to leave,” he explained with ease.

“What about my younger siblings?” I asked.

“Well, I heard they’re out of school for now, so we’ll put them all in the company’s school. It’s a boarding facility for close relatives of our workers, and they have the best teachers leading them. This is the best offer even God can give you. Deal or no deal?,” he asked with his hands extended.

A life of pleasure, and I only get to give my body out twice a week. My family is saved from penury, and my siblings get a proper education. What do I have to lose?

“Deal, I’ll be your ashewo” I said and shook his arms.

Deep down, I knew it could never be this easy. There was something this man wasn’t telling me. It felt like I had sold my soul to the devil…
