Encounter With The Last Spirit - S01 E01

I was right because when I got near him, he just passed as if he didn’t see me. That event made even harder for me to believe in traditional stuff.

One day, my elder brother who was a professional photographer called me one day and told me that he has a deal for me.

He told me he got a big event to execute and, he needs a help.

“The location is one far village. They want to celebrate a very big festival for their gods. And according to what I heard, it is one of a kind” my brother explained.

“I wanna ask if you can help me cover part of the event’s video? Please!” He pleaded.

“Sure. No problem”.

He fixed a date and told me to come and meet him on a set date.

I went to his place on the set date and we both went to the village together.

The village was quite a big one.

While walking towards the location where the ceremony will take place, we saw some worshippers along the way.

The had many religious inscriptions on them. And on their head was different sculptures symbolizing their gods.

I waved my head at them and pass by with my brother walking before me.

We got to the location and the moment we got there, my brother went to meet the man that invited him. He spent minutes talking to him.

“He said the ceremony won’t start until 1 in the midnight”

“So, that’s means we won’t sleep till morning? “I asked with distress

“Yes. They said the Spirit will appear in the midnight. We don’t have choice than to wait”.

“Okayy” I answered coldly.

He told me to wait for him and he left to an undisclosed location.

While waiting for him, I was really bored. I got myself acquainted with a boy who seems to be of the same age with me. His appearance made it obvious that he came from the city to attend the ceremony.

We started talking and be told many things he knew about the ceremony.

Things which include the reason why that ceremony will be the last. The reason why the spirit won’t visit after the ceremony.

“His time is up. Yeah, the spirit time on earth is up and the reason why they are making it so big is because they are looking for a human sacrifîce. That’s one of the things the spirit required before making his appearance. Please don’t tell anyone oo. I heard that the person for sacrîfice will be chosen from the people that attend the ceremony” he explained.

“So, how did you know all this?”

“My father is the son of the chief priest. So, the chief priest is my grandfather. I heard everything when he was discussing with my father” he said.

On hearing what he said, I wanted to tell my brother everything I heard. How someone among the people will be sacrifîced.

I was looking for him when I was stopped by my feelings towards the traditional stuffs. Since I don’t believe in them, I decided to count the boys word as fake.

Night came and the ceremony started.

People were walking to and fro in the open field were the ceremony was being held.

While my brother was taking pictures of all the details, I was taking video of all their activities.

When it was time for the spirit to appear, the chief priest and some elderly men entered a small hut that seems to be the shrine.

They beckoned to me to follow them as it was important to take video of the spirit last moment.

We entered the shrine and the process began. I was just looking at them in disbelief. All the things they were doing seems barbarîc to me.

The continued chanting heavily and suddenly, all of them stopped. The unity in the way they all stopped scared me for some seconds.

When they finished everything, what I heard next was that the spirit has come and it has gone.

One of them faced me and told me never to discuss what I saw there with anyone.

“What!. So all this gods and spirit symbols are all fake” I thought.

“All the story the boy told me about sacrîfice are all fake”

I wanted to burst out in laughter but I controlled myself.

We went out and everything continued. It was going smoothly until the camera I was holding shut down. The battery in the camera was děad.

I dipped my hand into my pocket to take a replacement but I didn’t find it. I checked and emptied my pocket but I didn’t see it.

The first place that came to my mind was the shrine. The battery might have fallen there.

In order not to miss any part of the ceremony, I rushed down to the shrine to look for the battery.

I entered and started searching.

I haven’t spent up to five minutes when all the candles placed in the shrine went off. I thought someone actually switched them off.

I was still struggling to switch on the torchlight of my phone when I sensed a movement behind me.

The next thing I heard was a whisper in my ear ” my sacrifice is here”

I quickly switched the phone off my touch on and saw it.

The spirit is real

I saw the spirit which the priest didn’t see. He was standing before me with a devîlish grin on his face.

Immediately I saw it, what came to my mind was the boy’s word about sacrîfice.
