Nate’s POV

I was shocked to see my mother at my door that day because she doesn’t usually visit me in school. I asked mum what are you doing here? She just smiled and said do I need an excuse to come see my son? She asked me wouldn’t you let me come in? Then Lillian asked from inside the house Nate who’s at the door? My mother said who’s that? She added new girlfriend I presume. I let my mother into the house and introduced her to Lillian saying mum meet Lillian a very good friend and Lillian meet my mother. I don’t know why but my mother took an immediate likeness to Lillian and they started discussing like long lost friends. My mother sat on the sofa and Lillian sat opposite her, my mother asked Lillian so where are you from? Lillian replied I’m from New York. My mother asked Lillian are you my son’s girlfriend? I shouted mum! Don’t embarrass the young lady and my mum said I’m not trying to embarrass her and she continued please my dear referring to Lillian answer my question. Lillian said I’m not his girlfriend because he hasn’t asked me out yet. My mother asked so if he asks you out would you say yes? Lillian cheekily responded we shall see. My mother checked her time on her wrist watch and said I’ve got to be going now and she asked me to walk her to her car and I did. When we got outside she told me that girl is good for you please keep her. She continued do what you have to do but I want her as a daughter in-law, with that she got in her car and zoomed off. I returned to the house and met Lillian on the sofa where I had left her earlier and she said your mother is really lovely and I responded tell me about it and she asked so what were the both of you discussing outside? I told her that that’s between mother and son and she didn’t ask me any further questions on that topic again. I stood up and stretched out and yawned and I said I was going to bed and she bid me good night. I told her good night also and before retiring to my room, I told her that if she wanted to sleep she should use the room beside mine. When I woke up the next day which was a Saturday, I went for a jog around the area and when I returned, Lillian had cooked, cleaned the whole house and had even put my clothes in the washer. I was surprised at this and I asked her did you do all this? She said yes and told me to go take a bath and once I was done breakfast would be served. I did as she asked and when I returned, indeed a breakfast of French toast, fried eggs, bacon and a cup of coffee were waiting for me at the dining. I had just settled down to eat when she came with some bad news. She said that she just called her friend Joan and that she was crying on the phone and she said that she has to return to school I told her to give me a few minutes to finish my meal and I would drop her at her hostel. She said never mind that she would take a cab and I told her that she should wait for me we went on and on with this until she finally agreed and when I was done eating we returned to school.

Joan’s POV

I am very emotional when it comes to someone I love but I try to keep up a hard exterior and so when Paul caught me in that room and started shouting at me I broke down in tears in fact I didn’t sleep that night. I cried and cried and only by 3 am did I sleep. When I woke up my eyes were as red as tomatoes. I stood up from the bed and cleaned the room I slept. Then I cleaned all the rooms in the house and prepared food for Paul to eat. After doing all this, I went to take a shower and I left his house and returned to school. But whenever I remember the incident of last night, I just start crying and it was while I was crying that Lillian called me. I picked the call and she noticed that I was crying and she asked where are you? I told her that I was in our room and she said that she was on her way. I slept off and about an hour later Lillian walked into the room and saw me with my red eyes and she asked what’s wrong? She continued did anything happen to Paul? I told her that I didn’t want to talk about it and she said whenever you are ready to talk I’m always here. I stood up off the bed and took my books and started to read when a knock came on the door. I went to open and standing in my doorway was Paul Davis. I asked so what are you doing here? He said wouldn’t you let me in? I gave way for him to pass and he sat on the reading chair in the room. I asked again what are you doing here? He went on his knees and said Joan I’m sorry for yelling at you last night and he added I don’t know what came over me and he asked would you find it in your heart to forgive me? I was indeed dumfounded as kneeling in front of me was the man I loved but I didn’t understand him. I picked him up off the floor and I asked him so who was the woman in the picture in that room? He said you heard that my heart was frozen right? I nodded in the affirmative and he continued she was my first girlfriend but she was killed in a drive by shooting and I said oh so sorry and I asked him so why did you shout at me when you saw me in that room? He said I’m sorry about that and continued no one is supposed to see that room apart from me and I asked why? He said it’s because of the fact that I don’t want anyone thinking I’m some sort of a weirdo and I asked do you still want me as your girlfriend? He said yes and I told him to take everything in that room and burn them and he had a look of shock on his face and I told him that I can’t share him with a dead woman. I asked him what’s her name by the way? He said her name was Antonia and I told him that Antonia is resting in the bosom of the lord and that she wouldn’t want him obsessing over her and I added you should let her go and he asked would you help me? I said to him I thought you would never ask and because it was a Saturday I went with him to his house to burn everything in that room.
