Life is short, it gets shorter with each passing day and each day we spend takes us closer to our very end.. It doesn’t matter how long one lives, it’s a natural order that everything with life must someday die.

A lot of things have happened in Ibadan, from the attack of the hell demons, to the failure of the government and the temporary victory of the witches.. Everything seemed so fine at first but little did we realize the worst was yet to come.

On this particular Saturday afternoon, Here I was at Morenike’s house working on an assignment with her, her parents had gone out leaving the 2 of us alone.

After we were done working on the assignment, we decided to head downstairs and watch TV.

I really wasn’t used to such contraption but I couldn’t help but admire the show that was going on the screen.

Ebinoluwa What’s this?

Morenike it’s Cartoon Network… Don’t you watch it at home?

Ebinoluwa We don’t have a flat screen back at home.. My mom hates noise.

Morenike So you’ve never watched Cartoons?

Ebinoluwa No..

Morenike Including Tom and Jerry?

Ebinoluwa No…. What’s Tom and jerry?

Morenike Hmm.. You’ve really missed alot. Hold on, let me go to the station that plays it.

After that, Morenike took the remote and began to switch channels until she stopped at one particular station that showed what she was talking about.

The Cartoon she was talking about look goofy and unintelligible but it was really interesting, I soon got fascinated by it and began to amuse myself.

Ebinoluwa This is crazy… So this is Tom and jerry?

Morenike Yes..

Ebinoluwa It’s very interesting..

Morenike You should ask you mom to allow your father to buy a television set so that you too can be watching.

Ebinoluwa Yeah… (As if that would happen).

For a while, More and I kept watching the silly cartoon on the screen and just when our excitement was getting higher, something unexpected and ominous happened.

In an instant, there was a tremor and sinister shockwave that make the earth vibrate for some seconds, the TV that we were watching switched off unexpectedly and the transformer outside suddenly exploded.

Morenike AHH… Nepa….. why now?

Ebinoluwa Shh.. This is not Nepa.

Morenike Ebi… Are…you…alright?

I never replied her cause my mind was more focused on something else, Something terrible was coming and I was getting a very bad feeling cause I could hear the Altros screeching outside the house.

Morenike Ebinoluwa.. What’s…going…on?

Ebinoluwa Come.. We have to leave now.

Morenike But…my…parents… They…said we….should…stay.

Ebinoluwa Something bad is going to happen.

Morenike What?

In that moment, Morenike’s parents walked into the house staring at us suspiciously,.

Bolaji What’s going on here?

Ebinoluwa Sir.. Ma, we have to leave this house.

Kemi Why?

Ebinoluwa Didn’t you all hear the tremor?

Bolaji We did but that’s not something new.. Let’s just calm down and relax.. Nothing is going to happen.

Kemi (screams) AHHHHHHH!!!

Immediately Mr. Bolaji made his last statement, A soul eater came into the house and s----d out every ounce of life in Bolaji’s body.

Soul eaters are demon’s from hell, they feed on lost souls that haven’t been judged yet, that is to say, they feed on souls that haven’t been transcended to paradise or descended to hell.

After the Soul eater was done draining Mr. Bolaji of his life, it threw down his drier corpse and turned it’s attention on Kemi and Morenike.

Mrs. Kemi was devastated when she saw what had happened, She screamed out loud in panic and grabbed hold of her daughter and I heading into the house..

Even I myself couldn’t believe what just happened, everything happened so fast that I couldn’t make a move, Even if I had tried the intervene, Mr. Bolaji was already done for.

Immediately we got upstairs, Mrs. Kemi locked her daughter and I in the room telling us to stay put that she was going to look for help.

Kemi Stay here girls… I’m going to call the police.

Morenike (crying) Mommy…. No… Please… Don’t… Go.

Ebinoluwa Please ma.. Don’t go.. The police can’t save us.. We should run away while we still have the chance.

Kemi Don’t worry.. Just stay here I’ll be back.

Despite our pleads, she locked us up and took off to God knows where, Shortly after her departure, there was a loud short scream and I knew in that moment, it was her. I quickly teleported out of the room and ran to where the Mrs Kemi was but by the time I arrived there, it was already too late.

Here in front of me was Mrs. Kemi in her own pool of blood, her heart was missing and her legs were broken.. I felt a cold chill in my body as I saw her in that uncomfortable state, I sensed that she was still alive so I rushed to her side.

Ebinoluwa Ma..

Kemi (gasping)…. Ebi…no…luwa.. I’m.. I’m.. sor…ry… Ple..please… take Morenike… and.. and.. (Coughs blood)… and run..

Ebinoluwa Please ma.. Don’t say that.. You can make it.

Kemi No.. I… won’t.. I’m… done.. for.. Please… If your… mother.. is…. still… alive…tell…her…to….take… of…. Morenike… as… one…. of… her… own… Please. (Crying)

Ebinoluwa I will ma.. I will.

Kemi (coughs blood)… thank… you.. Thank.. you… (closes her eyes).

After that, Kemi was finally dead and in that moment an Altros came besides her and s----d out her soul before leaving again.. I didn’t attack it cause it was just doing it’s Job.

Amidst tears, I went back to Morenike to check on her, and as soon as I got into the room, I saw 2 demons with multiple heads fighting with other, in that moment, I spotted Morenike hiding under her bed in fright, she was just shaking with immense fear and crying silently.

Infuriated with contempt and hate, I unleashed a wind magic on the 2 demons by increasing the air in their body, their bodies began to expand in size growing bigger and bigger like a balloon until they exploded into tiny pieces.

After that, I rushed to Morenike’s place and pulled her out of the bed, it took me a while before I pulled her out because she was struggling really hard.

Morenike (screaming and stammering) L-LE-LET…. M-ME…. G-G-GO.

Ebinoluwa CALM DOWN JOR… it’s me, Ebinoluwa.

It was when she heard my voice that she stopped struggling and allowed me to drag her out, she hugged me tightly and asked about her mother.

Morenike Where… is… my.. Mother?

Ebinoluwa she’s… She’s… She’s dead.

Morenike (crying profusely)

Ebinoluwa Morenike.. Listen..listen to me.. We have to go now.. We have to go.

Morenike (crying) I… want.. my… mother.

Ebinoluwa She’s….not…coming…back. She’s gone.. Right now all you have is me.. We have to leave now.

Morenike (crying) No.. I…won’t… I won’t.

OHH… Why do I have to put up with this? doesn’t she hear what I’ve been saying? Her parents are dead and I’m the only one she can rely on for survival.. Although, I felt sorry for her, it’s really an awful thing to witness your parent’s death at this age. So before we could get surrounded by more demons, I put her to sleep with my magic to ease my burden but before I could leave the house, I saw a picture of Morenike and her parents together, it was a picture frame, so j took it with me and then teleported with her to Aunt Jezebel’s house.
