LOCATION: CHIEF CHRIS’ POV

“Father! I remembered everything.” Princess announced and her shocking statement woke Chief Chris from his sound sleep.

“You said what?” Chief Chris asked shockingly.

“Father, I don’t know you’re this evil… so I was raped and you refused to tell me anything.” Princess yelled angrily with tears in her eyes.

“I’m very sorry Princess, I don’t want to hurt you, that’s why I initially intend to keep the secret to myself.” Chief Chris elucidated.

“Initially? Father, do you take me for fool? Do I look like one? Father, I know you very well, I know what you can do… father, I know I can’t stab you with this knife but if you remain adamant to stand on the lie I won’t hesitate to stab myself to death.” Princess threatened.

“Please don’t stab yourself… yes, you caught me there’s a reason why I intend to keep your misfortune as a secret.” Chief Chris paused.

“What’s happening here?” Angel asked as she opened the door. Shockingly, she saw Princess holding a knife.

“Princess, what’re you doing with a knife?” Angel asked confusingly.

“Will you stay out of this or get involve?” Princess yelled loudly at Angel.

“Father, I’m listening.” Princess uttered directing his statement to puzzled Chief Chris.

NEXT DAY

LOCATION: MR. MARTINS ALMOST COMPLETED BUILDING

Mr. Martins drove his Toyota Camry into the compound, I was eagerly waiting for his arrival, I ran to him as I saw his car drove into the compound.

“Hope mother is fine?” That was the only statement that came out of my stinking mouth.

“Ola, your mother is in the hospital.” Mr. Martins replied as he got out of the car.

“Hospital? What is she doing there? Which hospital?” I asked confusingly but Mr. Martins ignored me, he walked into the building and he greeted Henry, Daniel and Daniel’s mother.

“Hope all is well with Ola’s mother?” Daniel began.

“I was told by a neighbor that she’s in the hospital and her condition is quite critical.” Mr. Martins announced.

“Let go to the hospital.” Henry suggested.

“Yes let go please.” Daniel added.

“Okay, let go.” Mr. Martins accepted, he led the way out of the building.

“Ola, stop behaving like a woman, your mother will be fine.” Henry assured.

“We’re going to the hospital but it seems you’re not ready.” Mr. Martins added. On hearing this, I jumped into the car, Daniel helped his mother into the car and he sat beside her. Henry opted for the front sit and Mr. Martins retained his position as the driver, he ignited the engine after tying the seat belt and the car sped off.

LOCATION: FEDERAL HIGH COURT.

“Court!” The registrar of the court cried as she rose on her feet, the lawyers and other people in the court also rose on their feet. All witnesses sat down after a while.

“This is court case no 212, with case no MOS/11/2018, a case between Mrs. Benita Agu as the defendant and the State Government as the Plaintiff. The defendant is charged for attempted murder.” The registrar announced on her feet, she paused and looked at Mrs. Benita.

“Mrs. Benita Agu… are you guilty of the charge or not?” The registrar asked facing Mrs. Benita.

“I’m guilty.” She answered and her answer left the mouth of almost everybody in agape not excluding the judge.

“The lawyers.” The judge uttered professionally as he adjusted his medicated glass.

“My Lord, I’m Barrister Lawrence Samuel, I’m the counsel to the defendant’s.” Barrister Samuel signified for recognition.

“My lord, I’m Barrister Emmanuel Kate, I’m the Principal Counsel to the Plaintiff’s, with me is…” Barrister Kate signified for recognition.

“I’m Barrister Peter Olaniyi, I’m the Assistant Counsel to the Plaintiff’s.” Barrister Peter signified.

“Let the hearing begin.” The judge approved.

“The Defendant’s Counsel.” The Judge called upon.

“My lord, my client has accepted that she’s guilty. I will just plead to this court of law to please temper justice with mercy.” Barrister Samuel begged.

“The Plaintiff’s Counsel.” The judge called upon.

“My lord, it is written in the 1999 constitution of this country, in section 49 of the constitution it was written that any citizen who intend or try to kill a fellow human being much face the wrath of the law only if he/she was assigned to do so by the court of law. My lord, I see no reason why my colleague is pleading to the court to temper justice with mercy on someone who intended to kill. My lord, I will plead to this court of law to judge the case accordingly.” Barrister Kate countered and she sat down.

“After the hearings of both the plaintiff’s and the defendant’s counsels, this court of law hereby charged Mrs. Benita Agu guilty of her charge. With the power bestow upon me as the judge, the court hereby sentence you Mrs. Benita Agu to seven years imprisonment with hard labour. I rise!” The judge announced and ended the case.

“Court!” The registrar cried loudly as she rose on her feet.

LOCATION: DENLINK HOSPITAL

.

Mr. Martins drove into the hospital compound, he parked near a tinted Venza, we alighted from the car.

“This car seems familiar.” Daniel uttered but he was ignored. Mr. Martins led the way into the hospital.

“Good afternoon sir.” The receptionist greeted.

“Good afternoon Ma, this woman was admitted here, right?” Mr. Martins asked showing the receptionist a picture of mother.

“Yes she’s in the female ward.” The receptionist answered with smile all over her face.

“Can we see her?” Mr. Martins asked.

“We’re in the visiting hours, hope you’re his relatives?” The receptionist asked.

“Yes, we are.” Mr. Martins replied returning the smile.

“You can go, you will see a nurse waiting somewhere around that place, ask her about her.” The receptionist replied smiling.

“Thank you very much ma.” Mr. Martins appreciated.

“You’re welcome.” The receptionist replied and she winked at Mr. Martins but he ignored her.

Mr. Martins led the way to the ward, he walked as fast as his leg could carry him, a nurse directed mother’s ward to us, in less than two minute, we made it to the ward. Shockingly, Chief Chris, Princess and Angel were inside the same ward standing beside mother’s bed with tears in their eyes.
