“Sir, I found this on him before he was admitted into the hospital.” Mr. Dave uttered and he brought out a memory card from his pocket.

“Memory card? What is on it?” Mr. Chorus asked as he collected the SD card from Mr. Dave.

“There is a recorded video on it… the video shows the rape incident that happened recently in the school…” Mr. Dave announced and Mr. Chorus opened his mouth in agape.

“Rape? Are you sure?” Mr. Chorus asked surprisingly.

“Absolutely sure sir.” Mr. Dave replied.

“Okay, I will check it, you can go for now, I will work on it.” Mr. Chorus replied and Mr. Dave rose on his feet and he left the office.

“Rape? How come?” Mr. Chorus asked rhetorically.

“Let me check what is on the memory card.” Mr. Chorus concluded, he sat down quietly and he switch off his mobile phone, remove the back case and the battery, he eject his own memory card and insert the memory card, he pack the phone and he switch on the phone and it boot and he stroll to the videos folder, there, only a video was there, he play the video and he was very shook of what he saw, he couldn’t believe his eyes, he watched the video over and over again.

“What?” He screamed in an alarming tone.

“Oh my goodness, Chief Chris must not see this, it would be better to keep this a secret and a secret forever.” Mr. Chorus concluded as he impatiently switched off the mobile phone.

Are stars not splendor in the sky? Are flowers not majesty in the garden? Are wild animals not magnificence in the jungle? Are fishes not finery inside the water? Are riches not grandeur over the poor?

EIGHT WEEKS LATER (TWO MONTHS LATER)

Everything was left complicated as it is. Mama tried to get in touch with Princess’ father but all efforts proved abortive. She was brutally injured by the enraged securities of Chief Chris and she is now in the hospital receiving treatment, she is totally helpless and weak. Princess is now back to life, she has even been discharged from the hospital, but she was unable to remember anything just as Doctor Emma proclaimed. Not even her name. Three weeks ago, it was announced by Mr. Chorus that Mr. Dave, the man who gave Mr. Chorus a memory card concerning the rape incident, was reported dead and it was said that he was assassinate.

PRESENT

LOCATION: ARMY BARRACK (WALFARE)

I sat down quietly beside Daniel, he was sniveling softly. I tried my best to console him but he won’t just listen. The pains of his descend mother is still wholly in him.

“Daniel, please you can’t continue crying all night… She is dead and there is nothing you can do about it…” I tried to console but he angrily barge into my statement.

“Ola, don’t ever in your life, I repeat, don’t ever tell me my mother is dead just like that. Ola, I’ll never believe she is dead not until I use my two eyes to see her corpse.” Daniel rebutted with vexation.

“Daniel, I understand you, but I know by the grace of God we are going to get out of here very soon and the truth will prevail.” I consoled with tears in my eyes.

“Truth? Okay let wait and see.” Daniel concluded faking a smile.

“I’m just imaging what Princess will be going through now?” I tried to bring up the conversation but it seems Daniel wasn’t interested from the looks on his face.

“Hmm… Princess, I pray all is well with her.” Daniel replied insincerely.

“Amen o, who knows her state of consciousness now.” I uttered.

“Ola, please stop the conversation, it’s boring and uninteresting.” Daniel rebutted and I kept my mouth shut. Few minutes later, a soldier entered the welfare with a tray of foods, he looked at us and he shook his head pitifully.

“Have this.” He offered a plate of rice, and I eagerly collected the food from him and I started eating. The soldier moved closer to Daniel, he offered a plateful of rice to him, but to my utmost surprise, Daniel kick the food and it decant on the floor. The soldier landed a thunderous slap on Daniel’s cheek but trust me, Daniel tried to fight back, he pushed the soldier against the wall and the soldier hit his head against the wall, he groaned in pain and he quickly rose on his feet and he ran out of the welfare. Daniel laughed hysterically and I was more confused.

“Daniel, you shouldn’t have done that… do you know the penalty of what you have done?” I voiced out fearfully.

“Ola, if I didn’t do what I did, I won’t get this.” Daniel replied and he showed me a bunch of key.
