Ukeh’s rudeness and attempt to loose himself and run had already placed him in a bad spot amongst the white men. And so they watched him carefully and paid attention to everything he does. A little mistake from him and they take him away and flog him mercilessly. They wanted to make sure he was filled with dear before they take him away from the land.

After spending four days in the prison cage, the slave ship finally came. And Ukeh and the others were all led like sheep’s being led to the slaughter with thier hands tied behind them and chains connected on thier necks from one person to another and gradually they were led inside the ship.

Ukeh had a quick look at the ship, it had different chambers, he did a quick count and discovered it had up to right chambers. Ukeh turned and saw different drums filled with palm oil. He began to wonder what the oil was meant for.

A whip on his back reminded him to move and not stand. And so he kept on moving and one by one they were led to the bottom of the ship. Ukeh figured out that they were at the lowest chamber. The sound of the engine of the ship was loud enough to burst the ear drums, but then they dare not speak, They were slaves after all.

The dock was smelling and looking dirty. There were sticks tied in rolls. The white ma who was thier commander stood on top of a small table like a king and addressed them. Ukeh have heard them calling him Robert.

“Now listen black monkeys, we are about to sail into the sea. You must not make any funny attempt to escape, if you do, you will only fall inside the sea and die. So use your heads, that is if you have one.

And they all started laughing.

“I have a question sir” it was Ukeh. “Since there is no place for escape can our hands at least be untied? Please”

It sounded like a joke to the white, Robert ordered that Ukeh be flogged again for daring to speak. And two of the men hold him down and they flogged him mercilessly without blinking.
