Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 9

Ukeh was tied on a long poor under the hot sun for 4 long hours that seemed like eternity. He was sweating heavily and was beginning to feel dizzy.

“Plea……see, water, please.” Ukeh cried

The white looked at him and untied him and took him back to join the others, where they gave him a cup of very small water to drink. After drinking it, Ukeh looked at them and begged for more, but they laughed at him.

“What is this? Do you think this is your old monkey father’s compound? Fall to the ground and appreciate us for our kind gesture of even giving you our divinely made water. Come on fall to the ground and worship us”

A whip landed on Ukeh’s back as he falls to his face on the ground.

Another whip followed, “I didn’t hear you” the white man shouted.

“Thank you for the water” Ukeh answered

And they all started laughing as they walked away from him. Ukeh crept back inside the prison cage. His back hurt badly, it felt like pepper was in the whip that was used in him.

“Let me see those” the old man said softly

And Ukeh opened his back for him. The man spat on his hand and used it to rub Ukeh’s back as he whirled in pains.

“Listen son, you are young and vibrant but you have to calm down. Acting stubborn to the white will not help you. They will keep hurting you until you are humble, and if you chose to remain adamant and stubborn, they will kill you. And so if you know you want to see that sister of yours again. You must stay calm and humble.”

“Nti, her name is Nti, I promised my mother I will bring her home. I want to keep that promise. Ukeh lamented softly

“You will see Nti again if you will be humble. You are brave and you are strong. Be humble and you will keep your promise to your mother.

The words sank into Ukeh and even though he hated what the old man had said he realized they were true. And the only way for him to get to his sister. At that instant He made up his mind not to be rebellious anymore until he meets his sister.

He thought of Nma, what will happen to her now that he was not with her, who would cater for her, will Ola sell her too? He thought of Ola’s betrayal. He felt anger rising in him, and the another thought came in. It could be a blessing in disguise, for him to be able to rescue Nti.

Ukeh relaxed and allowed sleep to take him. For he didn’t know what the future holds for him anymore.
