Hide and seek - S01 E02

My spirit left my body immediately the light went off and I had already imagined my death, my funeral and my transition to heaven, or perhaps hell within that very seconds the light went off.

The reeking odour of the monster brought me back to my senses. I was just about to surrender and faint beside Desmond when the light was restored.

I turned my head swiftly towards the direction of the ceiling and the monster was no longer there. I didn’t wait to take a second glance. I dashed out of the room immediately, not sure if I was being followed by the monster or not.

I ran towards the exiting door of the dormitory amidst screams and before I could get to the door, it closed automatically itself.

“Who closed the door. What’s this. How can a door that was wide open few minutes ago close by itself?”, I asked myself as I kept on running towards the door and still searching frantically for the monster.

“Are you seeking me”, the monster said again and this time, it looks like the whole dormitory was full of high capacity speakers because the voice was so loud and intimidating. I couldn’t trace the source of the voice neither did I see anything or anyone that looks like the monster.

“I’m not seeking you. Please pardon me and spare my life. I’m not seeking you”, I replied with a scream. I had already got to the door by this time and I tried to force it open but it wouldn’t budge. I pushed and pulled it but it still wouldn’t budge.

I was still busy pushing the door when the thought of the monster meeting me there flashed through my mind. “Maybe it is deliberately using this door to waste my time. I won’t allow myself to be killed like Desmond”, I thought to myself as I ran towards the nearest room that was closed.

I kicked it open and ran inside as soon as possible. It was as if I just finished a marathon race from Nigeria to Russia because I was panting like someone that just did.

I rolled my eyes frantically in search of a hiding place and the only place I could hide in was under the bunk bed. I was just about to bend down and hide myself under the bed when I heard a creaking metal sound which was coming from the direction of the bed.

I wanted to run away at first, but I had a second thought and I decided to take a look.

The person that was hiding under the bed left me dumbfounded, scared and tongue tied. It was Desmond. He was shaking and crying under the bed and the moment he realised that I was the one, he crawled out of the bed.

“Are you not dead, and where are the blood on your neck”, I asked him as soon as he came outside.

“I am not dead”, He replied sharply. “I saw a monster and the dead body of Daniel immediately I entered this dormitory to hide. I ran away immediately I saw the monster.I’ve been hiding in this room when the exit door wouldn’t open”, he explained to me with tears in his eyes.

“How is that possible. I, Daniel and the rest of the guys just left our dormitory together few minutes ago”.

“Are we hallucinating or what”, Desmond asked me.

“I don’t think so. I actually saw the monster and your corpse few minutes ago and it was so real”, I replied him.

“What should we do now”.

“Let’s try and get out of this place first. Let’s see if both of us can probably force that door open”.

We tiptoed stealthily out of the room after my suggestion and we wasted no time in pushing and pulling the door. We pushed the door for about five minutes without any interference from the monster and we started screaming our friend’s name when the door wouldn’t open.

We were still kicking and screaming our friend’s name when we heard a voice behind us. It was Daniel, one of our friends that Desmond found dead few minutes ago.

“Elisha!!. Is that you, I saw your corpse and one monster few minutes ago”, Daniel explained with an unusual boldness and calmness. I noticed his calmness but I didn’t want to press further, “the monster is definitely making us to hallucinate”, I said to myself. I told him to join us and he oblige.

We haven’t pushed the door for up to two minutes when we heard the voice again, it was louder this time and we all ran into another room together immediately we heard the voice.

A fresh tears were already dropping from Desmond’s eyes by this time and he was calling onto the names of his dead grandparents to save him.

We locked the door from the back immediately we entered the room and we all ran into different directions in order to hide.

“Where were you hiding, Daniel. You seem too calm for this and when did you enter this dorm”, I asked him immediately we settled down instead of replying me, he replied with a wild grin that was as wide as that of a cat.

I was just about to scold him with more serious tone when I noticed that his mouth was wider than normal and he was beginning to grow some whiskers like a real cat.

Everything became abnormal when Daniel’s mouth covered his whole head and his teeth became and tongues become longer and bigger.

I realized eventually that Daniel was never with us, nor did he enter the dormitory. We have been dragging the door alongside the monster, but it was already too late.
