Hide and seek - S01 E01

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 1

“Aren’t you going home”, Stella asked me as she dragging her large travelling bag behind her.

“Nope. I’m not going yet”, I answered her while walking through the dormitory in search of my friends. We had actually planned on staying behind and wait till everyone is gone.

It was the last day of the week and the last day of the school session. We just vacated that day and everywhere was full of students that were bumping into each other while trying to get their luggages to the car.

Everyone were running helter skelter, either into the waiting hands of their parent or to the numerous cabs that was waiting outside for any student that their parent didn’t come for them.

Some were dragging their bags while some were carrying them into the waiting cars. The reason for this hastiness isn’t far fetched. We just finished our exams a week before and we are vacating on that day.

Being a boarding school, it’s usually always busy like that every last day of the school session and every student couldn’t wait to see their loved ones back at home.

Almost everyone had already packed their bags a day before. It was only I, my four mischievous friends and other few students that decided to stay behind and go home the next day, which was a Saturday.

I and my friends were like a gang and we usually do a lot of mischievous things together, hence our reason for not wanting to go home. We all have a some naughty plans in our minds to carry out once everyone has gone home.

“Elisha”, a tiny voice called my name from behind.

“Yesss”, I answered while turning my head to see the person that was calling me. It was Linda, my everyday crush. I have been crushing on her since the very first day we got to SS1 when I realized that we are in the same class.

I didn’t just have enough balls to tell her, so I just pretended as if I was cool with been being her friend only and not desiring for anything more. She took more interest in me when she realized that I wasn’t wooing her like every other guy in class, so, you’ll always find us talking and gisting anytime we were less busy.

She was carrying a bag too, I guess she wasn’t planning to stay behind like the rest of us. In fact, she ought to have gone home and I was surprised to still see her in school.

“Aren’t you going home, it’s 6pm already”, Linda said with her tiny voice that could be mistaken for that of an heavenly angel, even though I’ve never heard one.

“Yes. I’m not going home yet. In fact, I’m looking for Desmond and the rest of the guys, have you seen them please”?.

“I saw them few minutes ago at the back of the dormitory. Bye. My parent are here already”, Linda replied while running off with her bag.

“Bye”, I replied her while blowing her a playful kiss at her. I guess her Dad saw me because he frowned at me immediately I did this.

I ran off to the back of the dormitory immediately and I saw my friends there.

“Where have you been, guy”?.

“I’ve been looking for you guys for the past 30 minutes”, I replied without paying much attention to them. I was thinking of some mischievous plans we could do that night.

“It’s 6pm already guys. Let’s go and have our dinner”, Desmond said while pulling Daniel with him. We all followed them after.

We all went back to our room after having our dinner and it was already dark around this time.

We all took a circular sit around the bunk bed immediately we entered the room to have one of our important talks. Planning a mischievous fun was one of our important discussions. We were just about to commence the discussion when Daniel brought up a suggestion.

“Let’s play hide and seek. It’s gonna be fun. Let’s use the whole dormitory and play it before the light is taken off”, Daniel suggested and we all agreed immediately.

“Who is going to hide first”, I asked.

“I’ll hide first and you guys should count 1 to 10 before you come find me”, Desmond said amidst grinning.

“Be fast. They are going to take off the light soon”, I added. “1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10”, I counted and we all zoomed off in different directions immediately whilst running out of our rooms like a drugged bull.

I was the fastest among us and I was determined to find Desmond before anyone else did. I started going in and out of different rooms, but I couldn’t find Desmond.

I searched the whole rooms in our dormitory and I still couldn’t find Desmond and neither did any of us find him inside our dormitory. I concluded that Desmond must have gone to another dormitory to hide. “He’s a crazy guy afterall”, I thought to myself. We all ran out of our dormitory to another in search of Desmond.

While everyone else ran to the dormitory that was beside us, I ran into the opposite dormitory. The light was still on and we could see everywhere clearly.

I checked the first room in the dormitory and I couldn’t see Desmond. I started shouting his name.

“Where are you Desmond”. I screamed but no one answered me. I had already given up on finding him in that dormitory and when I was just about to turn back, I heard a “kpom” sound in the opposite room.

I grinned after hearing the sound. “You have betrayed yourself already. I have found you Desmond”, I said silently to myself.

I started tip toeing stealthily like a thief with over 25 years of experience to the room I just heard the sound from. I was planning on catching him unaware.

I kicked the door of the room aggressively immediately I got to its entrance and it opened with one full swing and there he was.

I found Desmond on the ground with a slitted throat and he was lying in his own pull of blood. I was just about to scream in disbelief when I heard the “kpom” sound again.

“Are you seeking me”, a voice said from the top of the ceiling.

I turned my head evasively towards the direction of the sound at the ceiling to see the most disgusting creature of my life.

It was a creature with a head that was as big as a cylinder and a mouth that was as wide as a basin with a tiny eyes. It has tiny legs and long sturdy hands that can kill anyone with one blow.

“Are you seeking me”, the creature asked again and the light momentarily went off. The whole place became dark immediately and I was left alone with the creature’s reeking smell.
