Jade’s POV.

I took a closer look at Anne. She was totally different. She looked more beautiful and elegant. 2 young men with black shades stood behind her. Coming into the room was a man probably in his late 50s…

“Dad meet the guy I told you about. His name is Jade…she said, turning at me.

“Jade, meet my dad” she said…

“Good day sir…” I greeted. I was a little embarrassed because I was on a hospital bed. I wished I could shake hands with him. He looked like a wealthy man.

“Good day young man. My daughter has said so many things about you. You don’t look like the stubborn type at all” Mr. Rufus said as he observed me more closely. He spoke in a humble and calm tune. It was rare to see a rich yet humble person in our generation.

“Not at all sir. Am not stubborn” I said as I squeezed out a smile from my bed.

“Again,nice to meet you, Jade. Thank you for being a good friend to my daughter. Anne, I’ll wait in the car outside” he said as he turned and left, accompanied by one of the 2 young men.

“Please, just excuse us, I’ll be okay” Anne told the young man who nodded and left the room, leaving Anne and I in the room

“Anne, who really are you?” I asked wondering

“Well, am the first daughter to Mr. Okafor Rufus, my junior brother is in Britain. My dad owns the largest textile industry in this region. My dad wanted to teach me how to be humble and how it felt to live small so he got me a house-help job. Not even Mr. John is aware of my real identity. I didn’t like the idea. I cried for weeks but his decision was final. It wasn’t easy but here I am…” Anne said as she smiled beautifully.

“Why did you accept to be a househelp? Of all jobs in the world was this the best he could come up with? I mean, it’s terrible. I understand how it feels…growing up in wealth and later going down as an ordinary househelp serving someone you’re originally richer than” I remarked.

“How did you manage to keep up at the inn” I asked

“Well, on the second day I called my dad and told him I was ready and I had learnt. He agreed and sent our driver to come pick me up. So from the second day I didn’t have much problem. My only worry was you. I passed around the house earlier and asked someone who narrated what had happened. So I rushed down here. If something had happened to you I would have taken my life and joined you.” She answered with teary eyes

I put up my hand and cleaned the tears from her eyes using my thumb…

“I love you” I told her…

“I love you too, my J-boy” she said and hugged me.

Shola entered the ward shortly and looked suprised.

“You’re the househelp, aren’t you.” Shola asked looking dazzled

“Well, yeah but not anymore. Anne replied.

“Am sorry for what you went through in that house. My sister has become something else” Shola apologised.

“I passed by the Secretariat and tried to advance the bills bills but the last said it’s been taken care of.

“Yeah I cleared them” Anne said as she blushed to Shola.

“Thanks Anne. What would I do without you” I asked in gratitude.

“Cut it” she said smiling

3 weeks on….

I grew stronger and I got discharged from the hospital. I met with Mr. Rufus(Anne’s dad) and explained things to him. We were ready to take the matter to court. We contacted a lawyer who asked me to bring any evidence I can have against Mrs. Ola. I remembered my phone…

“I do have an evidence. I can rush to my room and bring it” I said as I headed for my jobsite. I boarded a taxi. Midway through, our cab got intercepted and 3 men armed with cutlasses asked me to step down. They covered my face with a black cloth and took me to God-knows where. I was brought to my knees and the cloth was unrapped from my face. To my greatest suprise, it was Mrs. Ola looking more demonised than ever. She wore a black jeans trouser and a black shirt accompanied by a face-cap…I was startled. I felt like diving on her and strangling life from her but my hands were tied to my back…
