I finished eating and returned to my room. My sentiments were strongly telling me to hide my phone inside my cupboard, which I did. I put it back inside it’s carton and put it in my cupboard. I locked it up and kept the key inside my wardrobe. I should take advantage of the occasion and tell Mrs. Ola to give me money so I free Jane…I thought to myself. I heard a bang on my door and it was Mrs. Ola with a coolval stories large pistle in her hands…

she held it firmly. I wondered what she intended to do with a stick and why she would badge into my room like that. “Jade, I can’t let you ruin my plans. Wouldn’t want you to let my husband know about what I’ve been doing” she said as she charged towards me. Before I could get on my feet(I had been kneeling all this while to arrange a few stuff at the bottom of my wardrobe) Mrs. Ola hit my head with the large stick…

Dark angels..butterflies..showers flowing backwards..voice of my dad calling from a faint distance. A bridge behind me broke. Strange voices crying…others laughing…ghosts parading up and down with white clothes…

Jade’s Mom(mama Chibuzor)

POV

I arranged my farm tools and prepared to take my leave to the farm when mama odera my neighbor and customer rushed into my compound panting. Before I could say a word, she fell on the ground and cried at the top of her voice.

“Jade oooooo, Jade oooooo” were the words that left her mouth. I still couldn’t understand.

“Jade my son, what happened to my Jade, what happened?” I asked as my blood pressure increased and tears began to cloud my eyes

“Papa Okey just returned from the city. He confirmed that someone k….lled Jade and before they could rush him to the hospital it was all over ohh” she said shouting and crying uncontrollably…

I opened my mouth to talk but words could not come out. My eyes began to deem and my body weakened. I fell to the ground. Voices of neighbors and well wishers brought me back to life. My compound was already full of people.

“Why didn’t you leave me to die? Let me go and join my husband. Leave me to die. What’s the point of living. My lineage has been wiped off. I want to go and meet my boy. Let me gooo. He suckled from these br33sts” I said, trying to fall and take life away from myself. There was no point living. The only thing stopping me from taking my life was some women who kept holding me and tapping my shoulders. They would not understand.

“My enemies will laugh…they will laugh at me ohhh, my lineage has been wiped off. Jade I didn’t finish b…ryrying your father, you have joined him. Oh, oh, I am finished” I wailed in pain….

Shola’s POV

I left my room and went to check on Jade. As I approached his room, Ola ran out with a pistle. I knew something was wrong. I rushed to his room and opened the door. He lay on the floor l33feless. “Jade,Jade” I called but he didn’t respond. I brought out my phone. I called the regional hospital line for an ambulanc3. I didn’t notice when streams of warm tears flowed down my eyes.

The health personnel arrived about 5 minutes later with a van. 2 men came into the room with a stretcher, put him on and carried into the van which I followed. As we arrived the hospital, some nurses ran to the ambulance with a stretcher and placed him on it. He was pushed into the em33rgency ward while I was asked to wait at the reception. I was restless…I wasn’t sure what to do. Oh, Ola how could you? How can you hate a human to this extent? After 45 minutes the doctor came out of the ward all sw33aty. His face didn’t look bright. “Is he ok? I asked, but the doctor didn’t respond. He just stared at the floor and shook his head…..
