The day for Betty’s father to visit her daughter came, he carried his bag and set to go when rose his second daughter ran up to him smiling ”papa pls when coming back from sister Betty’s husband house, I want u to bring alots of goodies for me, u know sister Betty’s husband is a rich man”, rose said smiling

”no problem my daughter! I will do as u say! so when ur mother returns, tell her I have left”, Betty’s father said adjusting his bag ”ok papa! papa pls come and give me twenty naira to buy biscuit”, rose said ”i don’t have change! don’t worry when I come back”, Betty’s father said, leaving the house ”ok papa bye bye! safe journey”, rose said waving her hand ”ok my daughter! thank u! take care of the house ok? Betty’s father said as rose nodded her head, as Betty’s father left the house.

Betty’s father boarded a taxi, after the long drive, the taxi man finally stopped at chief Rufus gate, he came down, pay the taxi man as the taxi man zoom off,.. after the taxi man left, Betty’s father knocked at the gate but got no response, so he started hitting the gate hard, just then the gateman opened the gate frowning his face ”oga u wan fall this gate? who u be and who u dey look for? the gateman rudely asked ”i am looking for ur head? my friend will u get out from the gate let me go in jor”, Betty’s father replied him rudely ”go in to where? u are going nowhere! u better go back to where u are coming from”, the gateman said blocking him from entering

”i can see the kaikai u have been drinking is affecting ur brain, do u know who I am? I am chief Rufus inlaw! ur madam’s father! don’t worry! when I get in there, I will tell my in-law to sack u! u are so mannerless”, Betty’s father threatened and made to move in but the gateman push him back ”waiting dey worry u this man! even if u be my oga papa waiting come concern me! oga abeg go back or I beat u like a criminal”, the gateman threatened

”oh u want to fight with an old man this hot afternoon! it seems u don’t have respect for elders? I don’t blame u! I will walk in there, just let ur hand touch me then I will show u the stuff am made of! get out of my way idiot”, Betty’s father angrily said and made to move but the gateman held him on his trouser

”oga u are a suspect! with the way u are talking shows that u are one of those criminal arrassing people In this port! I will arrest u and take u to the station”, the gateman said and held him tight on his trouser ”u are crazy! common get out of my way”, Betty’s father said, and pushed him aside before entering the house, as the gateman Keep running after him calling him names, Betty’s father finally got to the sitting room and met his daughter sitting down on the couch watching TV, immediately Betty saw his father she ran and hugged him, then helped him carry his bag off from his shoulder, just then the gateman walked in sweating ”aaaah madam na ur papa? the gateman asked

”yes he is my father, do u have a problem with that? Betty asked and eyed him ”i know know say na ur papa, abeg no vex”, the gateman apologize ”u see u this demonic gateman! just consider it that u have lost ur job! this animal dealt with me on the gate! chai a whole me”, Betty’s father said and sat down ”no call me animal o”, the gateman said and hissed ”will u shut up and go back to the gate”, Betty shouted as the gateman as the the gateman looked at Betty’s father, eyed him and left.

”aaaah papa welcome! I have really missed u people so much! so how is mama and rose? Betty asked and held her father on the shoulder but her father angrily pushed her hand away ”leave me alone jor! just because u married a rich man u just forget we ur family, even the promises u made to me before leaving, u didn’t even fulfil any same with ur husband! after all that I have done for u as a father, u still have mind to treat me like this”, Betty’s father complained

”papa it not wat u think! chief Rufus is not wat u think he is o! I have been going through hell in this house! he is a very stingy and calculating type, he is not even giving me Kobo in this house! papa am suffering here! so don’t think that I forgot u guys, just that things has not been easy for me here? even to eat in this house is a problem! before I want to go to the market to buy foodstuffs, he will bring out his calculator and calculate every dime thing, and to top it all, he even knows the whole prices of food items in the market! papa that is wat I have been going through in this house”, Betty complained as hot tears started to drop down her eyes

”what?? are u serious with this whole thing u told me? Betty’s father asked surprisely ”yes papa”, betty responded, and just then the door flunged opened and chief Rufus walked in with a squeezed face, immediately Betty’s father saw him he stood up to greet him ”my inlaw my in-law! the one and only good friend of mine”, Betty’s father greeted smiling

”who are u and how did u enter my house? chief Rufus asked Betty’s father who just remain mute at that moment ”chief! wat is the meaning of this? why asking my father who he is? chief all this u are doing is not fair o”, Betty cried ”wait wait wait! chief are u trying to say u don’t know me ur friend? the one who gave u this angel as a wife? Betty’s father asked still surprised at wat chief said ”not that I don’t know u, offcourse I know u vely well! just that I don’t allow visitors to come to my house without former visitation! so u better go back where u are coming flom”, chief Rufus boldly said leaving Betty and her father speechless and dumbfounded.
