••••AUTHOR’S POV•••••
It was the first day at school. Collette was the first to arrive in a yellow taxi.
She got down, rolling her suitcase behind her towards the big black gates of the school.
It was a pleasant Sunday morning. She had gone for morning mass and had left for school an hour after arriving home from church.
Q.A was deserted but with time, the school would be bustling with life.
Some gardeners were working on the grasses, the flowers and the trees as she walked passed them.
She waved at them and they waved back, Happy to see the student’s council president arriving back to school.
Moving undeterred towards the hostel, Collette felt something warm clutching at her heart. She remembered when she and Efua would arrive at school the same day.
Efua would fly all the way from Ghana and spend two days before resumption date at Collette’s house. They would take the same taxi and be at school before everyone else.
Those were the good old days but Efua was gone now.
She was here alone.
It hurts being lonely. There was nothing like it.
As Collette took the elevator up to her floor, memories flashed to her mind.
She remembered taking Lucy up the elevator to the room on Lucy’s first day at school.
She smiled at the memory.
The elevator doors swished opened and Collette stepped out, rolling her suitable along with her towards her room.
She stopped before the room, took out her spare key and unlocked it.
The room was covered in dust free covers to prevent dust from accumulating over the days spent at home before the student’s arrival.
Collette walked towards Lucy’s bed, removed the dust cover and laid on the bed.
She closed her eyes, gently breathing in Lucy’s body scent that’s been left on the bed.
She recalled the night she had slapped Lucy at the cafeteria. Lucy had ran away to Vee’s lodge. Collette had followed her there.
Collette remembered grabbing Lucy’s wrists, pushing her against the wall and pinning her firmly so she couldn’t move.
” Stop!” Lucy had struggled, yelling at her. ” Let go off me. What are you—”
Collette recalled her face coming out of the darkness, her lips opened down to Lucy’s face.
She remembered the taste of Lucy’s mouth as she stole her first kiss.
That was how she fell in love with Lucy.
Taking in a deep breath, Collette stood up and wandered over to Lucy’s wardrobe.
Her heart felt heavy when she opened the wardrobe and saw Lucy’s spare uniform.
She took the uniform and smelled it. It had Lucy’s body scent; Soo warm, Soo lovely, Soo close, soo near.
She lightly kissed the uniform, smiling for the first time she arrived in school.
She would Cherish Lucy’s uniform till she graduates.
She decided she wasn’t going to have a roommate. Mrs Coker would accept her proposal to have the room for herself.
No one was going to share her room with her. She still sees the shadows of Lucy in her room. The ghost Lucy left behind would forever remain here until she graduates.
Collette carefully returned the uniform back to the wardrobe and walked over to the bathroom.
One look at the bathroom and her mind snapped into a flashback.
∆∆∆∆∆ FLASH BACK ∆∆∆∆∆∆
” S-stop…stop it,” Lucy struggled, feeling Collette’s nípples pressing against her chest.
Collette didn’t stop. She ran her tongue up her neck, kissing Lucy’s flesh tenderly up to Lucy’s ears.
Suddenly, Lucy felt Collette’s soft warm mouth close around her ear as Collette s----d lightly on it.
Collette felt her stiffened.
Something like an electric sensation ran throughout Lucy’s entire body from her head to her toes.
Collette felt Lucy melting as her tongue twirl around Lucy’s ear, s-----g and licking it up like Ice-cream.
Lucy stopped struggling, relaxing as she closed her eyes and let out a low soft moan.
Collette stared at those pretty half closed eyes and her tongue pierced into Lucy’s inner ear.
She felt Lucy contrasted and leaned heavily on her.
Collette felt confident, released Lucy’s arms and held her tightly against her body.
The shower ran over the two girls, wetting their naked bodies, their hair, their soul and their flesh.
By now, Lucy was soo weak to even resist. Collette knew the licking on her ears had drained the last strength left in her. If Collette wasn’t holding her, she’d have collapsed to the floor.
Collette took in the sweet smell of Lucy’s hair and her heart went warmer.
Her small slender hands held Lucy’s face and she plunged Lucy’s quavering lips into another kiss.
Her tongue licked Lucy’s lips, savoring her breath, her mouth, her tongue.
Lucy couldn’t resist. She allowed herself to be taken advantage of.
And that’s when Collette stopped and released her.
She watched Lucy as she slowly slide to the floor and folded up, Soo weak and wasted.
Collette stared at her for sometime, then she turned off the shower and left Lucy behind, wrapping her towel around her body.
∆∆∆END OF FLASHBACK∆∆∆
Collette shook her head at the memory. That was when she realized she shouldn’t had kissed Lucy. That bathroom shower was the day she was tempted to take Lucy into a world of órgasm and fantasy.
But she stopped because Lucy was naive and she was fast turning her to be like her.
And yet, the memory was here in the room, staring at her in the face.
This bathroom held Soo many memories for the both of them.
There was Efua’s funeral.
She remembered how Lucy had spent the night with her in the cold waterfilled bathtub after Efua’s funeral that night.
They had slept in the cold water still wearing their moarning clothes.
Slowly closing the door, Collette returned back to the room.
She shouldn’t be thinking this much about Lucy but she just can’t help it.
Just as Collette was heading to her bed, someone spoke.
” Hello, Chi-Chi.”
Collette stopped in her tracks, turning sharply to see who it was that called out to her.
To her shock, it was no other person but Vee.
Vee stood at the entrance of Collette’s room, watching Collette with a heart warming smile on her face.

” Lucy, you can do this,” I said taking in a deep breath. ” Just go out there, knock on his door and speak to him.”
I had just arrived from church and had spent the next two hours in my room racking my brains for the best way to talk to Damian.
I finally decided to ask him out for another bestie date.
Stepping out of my house, I crossed the road towards Damian’s house and stood at the front of his door.
His parents would be inside but I don’t mind. I could tell them I wanted to see Damian.
I stared at the doorbell. The doorbells stared right back at me.
I slowly raised my hands and pushed the doorbell.
It rung!
I was expecting to see either Damian’s father or mother standing before me.
But it was Damian.
He opened the door, saw me and waited, staring silently at me.
I waved to him. ” Hi?”
His lips were pursed but he swallowed and replied. ” Hi.”
I craned my neck over his shoulder to look into his room. ” Umm…are your folks in?”
” Yeah.”
I returned my eyes back to him, fidgeting. ” You know, I was thinking. It would mean Soo much if perhaps if you can be free in the next thirty minutes, maybe we can go for another bestie date, what do you say?”
” What for?” He asked.
” There’s something I want to talk to you about,” I replied quickly. ” Maybe if you’d give me a chance to explain myself, we can work this out.”
Damian cocked his head to one side. ” Work what out?”
I sighed. ” Look Damian, I know you’re mad at me.”
” I’m not mad at you.”
” Yes you are. I can tell!”
He became quiet for a while. ” So you can tell.”
” Yup.”
” Where do we meet?”
” Same place,” I answered. ” Our favorite spot.”
The way I said “our favorite spot” made him stiffened. I made it sound like we had something going on.
” I’ll be there,” he said.
I shook my head. ” No, I want both of us together on your bike.”
He seemed surprised but he tried keeping a straight face. ” Are your folks cool with it?”
” As long as I don’t get back home late, yeah,” I said, realizing we were speaking close to each other.
We stared at each other for a while before he replied. ” Meet me outside the gates. I’ll be with my bike.”
” Thirty minutes?”
He nodded. ” I’ll be ready before then.”
” Super,” I began walking away. ” Be seeing you.”
I returned back to my room, took out my piggy bank and brought out some money.
Today’s bestie date was on me. I don’t suppose Damian would mind me buying the ice creams, the grilled meat and juices.
I took a quick bath, wore new panties, applied a little make-up and made sure I sprayed my favorite perfume.
I settled for a sunflower printed dress that stopped a little above my knees. I arranged my hair in a ponytail, hooking it in place with a pink ribbon.
I wore white stocking that reached my mid thighs and put on a pair of pink flat shoes.
The last thing I wore was a round beach straw hat.
Standing before my mirror, it occurred to me this was the very first time I’m dressing up for the benefit of a boy.
The only person I ever made my way out to look good for was Collette.
Mom and dad were in the living room when I walked down the stairs.
” My, you look lovely, baby,” mom said. ” Where are you heading to?”
” I’m taking a walk with Damian,” I answered.
If you thought mom would protest, you’re wrong. As long as it was Damian, mom had no problem with me.
She gave me her go ahead.
” Just be sure to be back before sunset!” Mom said. ” Don’t go too far.”
I gave her a warming hug and was out of the house within seconds.
Damian was waiting for me outside the gates. He wore a jeans jacket over a white polo. His legs had dark trousers that ran into two white sneakers shoes.
We had both gone out of our way to look good for each other.
Damian wasn’t the pretty boy you imagined him to be but when he dresses, he looked like a superstar except he doesn’t dress expensively.
One look at me and he gaped.
His eyes went from my straw hat to my pink shoes. I had impressed him same way he had impressed me.
He was quick to compose himself. ” You ready?”
I nodded. ” You take the lead, I’ll be behind you.”
He mounted his bicycle and I sat behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist.
It was a sunny Sunday.
Lagos traffic was a little light. It was just Damian and I riding down the bicycle lanes towards the peaceful hilly town up to our favorite spot.
Fast forward, Damian and I were seating beside each other overlooking the beautiful city under the shade of the pine trees behind us on the hilly forest.
We had cleared out our grilled meat {suya} and ice cream which I had bought with my own money.
We now sat on the green grass with our packet of juice in our hand, watching the beautiful city in silence.
Some beautiful butterflies settled on the grass around us, undisturbed. It was such a peaceful moment.
And romantic too.
We hadn’t spoken to each other ever since we arrived. I guess I was scared to speak to him and Damian on the other hand had no idea what to say either.
But we had to talk. There was no way we could just have a wonderful time without saying anything to each other.
Besides I have something I wanted to tell him.
Putting up all the courage I needed, I took a deep breath and spoke.
” Umm… Damian?”
He turned to look at me.
I continued. ” There’s something I want to tell you.”
He reminded silent, watching me closely.
I began. ” I know you’re mad at me. You don’t have to explain yourself. I know you wanted to confess your feelings for me inorder to ask me to be your girlfriend.”
He said nothing.
But that didn’t stop me. I Continued. ” The truth is, I like you Damian. I like you a lot but I’m scared. I’ve never dated before. You’re the very first boy I’ve ever been this close to. You make me feel special and I love it. Still, I have my fears. You might not know this because I chose not to tell you but today, I’ll tell you.”
He waited and it was really easy to speak to him when he’s quiet.
I faced him and held his eyes. ” Damian, I was raped.”
His face changed. He was shocked, his eyes revealed that.
His lips quavered. ” Raped? When?”
” About two weeks ago,” I answered, watching his expression. ” My step sisters had a big fight because of something I did. I got upset and ran out of the house. Some hoodlums kidnapped me and took advantage of me. Somehow, I was rescued. I really don’t want to get into details but there you have it. Ever since then, I’ve been sore. I was saving my Virginity for someone but it got taken away from me by a stranger. Luckily, I contracted no disease but the pain….the pain is worse than anything I’ve ever imagined. I swore on my life never to have anything to do with men. If my mom wasn’t as supportive as she was, I don’t think I’d have survived the trauma of being a rape victim.”
Damian’s eyes were shaking. ” Lucy, I…. I’m…I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
I smiled at him. ” It’s nobody’s fault. But you see why I was scared of accepting your proposal. I do like you Damian. You’re the best goddamn male friend any girl could ever have. However, I’m scared of getting into a relationship with you. Men are dangerous. They change. I don’t know if you’d change. I may be sixteen years old but I’m not stupid. I know a lot about men to be wary of them. I’ve been through a lot, Damian. I’ve suffered. I’m not ready to suffer again. The last thing I want is a heartbreak. You don’t know this but my first love happened to be someone I can never be with. It broke me apart knowing we’d never be together. I don’t want that to happen anymore. I ain’t making the same mistakes.”
I paused, then Continued. ” I want us to be frank with each other. I like you but I’m careful. Men have done terrible things to me that would forever remain a haunting memory that’d end with me to my grave. I don’t trust men anymore. But… I’ve come to believe all men aren’t the same. I think I can trust you. There’s nothing to hide. All I want is to be certain you won’t hurt me in the long run. I’m ready to accept you. I’ve been thinking recently and I realized you’re what’s left that gives me happiness. My life was once crumbling to bits. I prayed for a sign and then you came along. You’re my sign Damian. If it’s destiny we should end up together, I’ll willingly give myself to you. I’m ready. I will be yours and you will be mine. I’m letting go of my first love to welcome you into my heart.”
Damian stared at me for a long time without saying a word. Then he lowered his eyes to the grass, covering his mouth with his right hand.
He remained like that and I thought I saw a trickle of tears in his eyes.
I reached over to him and touched his hand, ” Damian, don’t cry.”
He opened his eyes and gripped my hand tightly. I smiled at him and he smiled back and gently kissed my hand.
Then he leaned forward, held my cheeks and drew me into a soft kiss.
I stiffened, feeling his quavering lips crushing against mine.
His eyes were closed and he looked lost in spirit as he tasted my lips.
I slowly closed my eyes and welcomed his kiss.
It was my first kiss with a boy.
My heart fluttered like wings that I thought it’d fly outta my chest.
It was unbelievable, it was magical, it was new and refreshing; totally different from the kisses I’ve shared with Collette.
From behind us, numerous beautiful butterflies shot out from the grasses fluttering around the two of us into the sky.
Damian slowly drew away from me, breaking our kiss. ” I won’t disappoint you, Lucy.”
I gazed at him, my eyes glittering against the sunlight. ” Promise?”
He wrapped his arms around me and hugged me warmly. ” I promise.”
I felt safe in his arm. It was the best feeling ever.
I closed my eyes and placed my head on his chest, feeling secured and very much in love.
