•••••••••AUTHOR’S POV•••••••••••

” I never meant for this to happen!” Charlotte yelled at her. ” You can’t blame this on me!”

Collette released her, pulling away from her. She kept her cool but her eyes were shaking from shock and anger.

” So what do we tell her mother?”

Charlotte swallowed. She had thought Collette would get down in another heated argument with her. Collette’s sudden retreat and calmness puzzled her.

” Her mother?”

Collette frown went deeper. ” Yes, what do we tell her mother?”

Today was the day Benjamin was going to have a video call with his daughters. Charlotte suddenly felt like she’d walked into a wall.

What do we tell her mother?

What do we tell her mother?

” I…” Charlotte’s was white washed. ” I have no idea.”

” She ran out of the house because we were arguing,” Collette spoke quietly. ” Now she’s raped. What do we tell your parents once they arrived from Paris?”

Charlotte licked her lips, she was as confused as kid. ” I…I don’t know.”

” You don’t know?”

” I don’t know!” Charlotte yelled, raising her hands in the air. ” I don’t know what to say to them, Collette! This is bigger than me. I never knew she was going to get raped!”

Collette wrinkled her nose in disgust. ” You’re the absolute worse person to have for a big sister. In cases of emergency, you’re hopeless but when it comes to dictation, you’re massively great at it.”

Charlotte balled her hands into fists. ” You can’t blame this on me, Collette.”

” Oh,” Collette wiped her face with the back of her hand, approaching Charlotte with a set face. ” Then who’s to be blamed? Should Lucy be blamed for getting raped? Is it the rapists fault she got raped? Is it my fault? Who’s to be blamed exactly?”

” It was an accident, Collette!”

” You call rape an accident?” Collette chuckled. ” You call your sister brutally s£xually harrased as accident? What prompted her to leave the house by the way.”

” She could have ran to her room,” Charlotte defended quickly. ” But she ran outside the house and–”

” So now it’s Lucy fault she got raped, right?”

Charlotte couldn’t meet her eyes. She kept quiet.

Collette moved away from her. ” So much for trying to change her. She was better off being who she was than getting raped.”

Charlotte felt hurt. Those words made her realized her mistakes.

” It’s nobody’s fault, Collette,” Charlotte said suddenly as Collette sat beside Lucy. ” I knew I was too hard on her. If I hadn’t hit her none of these would have happened. But that doesn’t mean it’s my fault.”

Collette returned her eyes back to Okon. He was watching her without saying a word.

” Is there anything you can do to help her?”

Okon leaned back in his seat and regarded the twins closely. ” What’s been done is done. I have done enough for her. Take your little sister to the hospital and let the doctor run some tests on her.”

Collette was disappointed. ” I was hoping you can….make her forget what happened last night.”

Okon shook his head. ” There are limitations to everything. I can’t make her forget last night. Take your little sister to the hospital and call your parents.”

And he slowly rose to his feet and made for the door with his walking stick. ” I’ll be downstairs.”

The twins watched him go, aware he was aging more quickly than before.

The moment he was gone, Collette spoke. ” Better join him, Chole. I’ll stay here with Lucy.”

Charlotte was about protesting when Collette cut her short.

” I don’t want to hear another word from you, please,” she said sharply. ” Just leave us alone.”

Charlotte knew Collette wasn’t going to give her a listening ear at the moment. She turned around and left.

Collette took Lucy hand and rubbed her hair lightly. ” This hurts, Lucy,” she swallowed a lump in her throat. ” It hurts Soo much.”

My eyes fluttered opened. My vision was hazy and blurry but I could outline the shadowy figure of Collette standing before the open vast window, staring out of the room at the early morning sky.

The storm had stopped and cleared off to reveal the dawning morning. It was such a beautiful day even though the sin hadn’t risen up yet.

I screwed my eyes, surprised to see her. She was definitely the last person I expected to see today.

” Collette?”

She turned around to look at me and it froze my heart to see how swollen her eyes were from crying.

” Oh, you’re awake,” She came over, moving slowly and heavily.

” Where I’m I?” I asked, not attempting to get off the bed. My body was weak and fluffy. I couldn’t even feel my legs.

” Doesn’t matter, Lucy,” Collette sat down beside me on the bed, her lips quavering as she bite it. ” What matters is you’re alive.”

I dropped my head back on the bed and closed my eyes. Suddenly the memory of last night came like a flash through my mind.

” What happened to me, Collette?”

Collette was shaking with a new surge of tears. She hide her face away, sulking quietly.

” Lucy,” she sniffed tears in. ” Would you ever forgive me?”

I opened my eyes and watched her closely. Her eyes were closed, her hair was a mess around her face, hiding that sobbing face.

Then I averted my eyes down between my legs hidden in the warm blanket.

” I was raped wasn’t I?”

She didn’t have to answer that question. I could still feel the impression of Joe’s c--k inside my v@ginal walls. It felt as if a knife had been cut inside me. Every movement I made with my legs sent a stabbing pain throughout my system.

I began biting my lips, my eyes pooling. ” Does this means… I’m no longer a VIRGIN?”

Collette couldn’t help herself. She stood abruptly to her feet and return back to the window, placing her hands on the table nearby, her face hidden in the dark as she sulked.

The Atmosphere between us was as disheartening as my sorrow.

I laid my head back on my pillow, feeling big balls of tears rolling down my face.

So I’ve lost it.

I lost my Virginity.

I lost my pride as a woman.

I was saving it for someone special.

Now it’s forcefully taken away from me by a stranger.

It was at that moment, that very moment Sharon’s words hit me.

••••Being a virgin is tough, Lucy. It’s like a burden we girls carry with us…..so when I met my boyfriend, I didn’t hesitate to let him have it. I have no regrets of course but now I realized he’s more dear to me now than he was when I first met him. I can’t seemed to leave him, knowing he’s my first.••••

Being a virgin is a burden, right? I suddenly realize that the worse burden was rape.

I’ve never imagined myself being raped. As a matter of fact, no girl ever imagines herself getting raped but these stuff do happen, don’t they? I’m just traumatized I went through that painful experience.

I’m broken, I’m torn apart.

Covering my face with my two hands, I cried my eyes out.

Collette didn’t come to me, she remained at the table, her hands on the table, her face turned, her eyes fighting back tears.

••••••••••AUTHOR’S POV••••••••••

Okon stood by the doorway, watching as Charlotte and Collette led their little sister into the Range Rover.

He studied the three sisters, a disturbing thought lingering at the back of his mind. He knew the moment they were gone, he was going to die.

He felt happy. His curse was lifted. He’d finally rest in peace.

Staring down at his wrinkled hands, he hurriedly returned them back into his pockets.

A hundred and thirteen years.

He was finally going to join his fathers. The only person he was going to miss would be Collette.

He shut his eyes, recalling how he’d thrown her off the sacrifice cliff over the whirlpool, a knife in her stomach.

He gritted his teeth as the memory filled him with guilt. He killed his own wife to save the kingdom. That was something he found very hard to get over even after all these years.

Collette would find someone else, he reasoned. He prayed she gets more happiness.

” Mr Okon?” It was Collette. She was approaching him.

Okon held his walking stick tightly. Eyes fixed on her. Even her presence made him shudder in guilt.

” I want to thank you for everything,” she said softly. ” We’ll take it from here.”

He nodded, saying nothing.

Collette screwed her face at his aging body. ” You’re becoming more older. Are you…”

” I’m aging now,” he replied sharply. ” The moment you are gone, I’ll die.”

Collette stiffened. ” Don’t tell me it’s because I’m here.”

Okon lifted his lips in a stiff weak smile. ” The curse is lifted, Collette. The moment I saw you yesterday, everything changed. I can now die peacefully as an old man.”

” But,” Collette moved a little closer to him. ” Isn’t there some means for you to live again? There’s Soo much I want to know from you.”

Okon took a step back. He then walked from the doorway into the room. ” There’s not a possibility. This isn’t my timeline. Seeing you draws me more closer to my grave. We’re like two magnetic poles with opposite charges in this timeline. We don’t attract, we repel and that’s why we can never be together.”

Collette followed him into the house. She Lowered her head and made a bitter smile. ” I understand.”

She paused, then continued. ” Sir, in the past, were we really married?”

Okon grinned, showing off his crooked teeth. ” Indeed we were.”

” We had no kids?”

” I married you for the gods. We were not to have s£x. I prepared you as a bride for the sacrifice.”

” And you feel guilty about it till now?”

Okon hide his face. ” I haven’t had a moment of peace. Every night, I dream of you.”

Collette couldn’t help herself. ” Sir, I don’t want you to leave.”

Okon took another step back but Collette kept coming closer. ” I have to, Collette. Either way, I’ll die anyway.”

Collette took his hand and held it tightly. ” Stay with me please or better still, take me with you.”

Okon could feel his heart Hammering against his chest. The touch of her skin against his brought back old memories, casting images in his head until he snapped back into reality.

He quickly pulled his hands away from her and began coughing.

Collette moved to him in alarm. ” Mr Okon, oh I’m sorry….did I…”

” Stop!” He waved her to a stop. ” Don’t come any closer. The more you’re near me, the faster I’ll die. I don’t want you to see me dead. Go be with your sisters.”

” But I want to be with you,” Collette lamented. She was shocked to see his body going bony. His skin was getting drier and plaler.

” It’s no use,” he dragged himself away from her. ” We can’t be together, Collette. This is your timeline now. You’re going to find someone else. Someone who’ll make you more happier than I’ve ever done in the past.”

Collette was near herself with tears but Okon leaned forward and wiped her eyes. ” Don’t cry, Adaliya. You’ll forever be in my heart.”

Adaliya was the name of the princess. Collette felt a tear leave her face.

Okon groaned in pains as his back bent over. He was fast turning into a living Skelton. His face had sunckened inside his dried flesh.

Collette whimpered like a hurt puppy. Seeing him this way broke her apart. ” Please… please don’t go.”

Okon’s dreadlocks fell over his face as he moved over to the armchair near the fireplace and settled himself on it.

The blazing fire from the fireplace was gradually dying in line with Okon’s dying breath.

Collette covered her mouth with her hand as she gazed upon her literal idol with sad heavy eyes.

” There’s…” Okon coughed, breathing heavily. ” There something I’ve always…”

He coughed louder this time, clutching his chest in pains. He now looked in his late nineties.

” There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you for a very long time ever since we were married in the past,” Okon said at last.

Collette waited, feeling the East wind blowing through the window at the both of them.

The atmosphere in the house stunk of death. Everything had lost its color and flair. All the candles were going off on their own accord one by one.

Okon moved his lips in a stiff smile. ” I’ve always….love you, Adaliya.”

Collette sniffed, she stared down at her feet and shook her head to stop herself from bursting out crying.

At long last, she glanced up at him. His eyes were gazing directly at her. He wasn’t moving anymore.

He wasn’t breathing.

The fireplace had dried off, quenching the fire. All the candles were out and the room had gone black and white.

Collette’s lips were quavering.

Seated on the armchair was the priest. His body gradually turning to dust.

Her eyes widened when a massive wind burst into the room. Before her eyes, the wind carried Okon’s ashes away through the window out into the sky.

Collette stood where she sat, staring at the direction of the window, her hands to her chest, her eyes ladened with wonder and sorrow.

Collette returned back to the Range Rover where Charlotte and Lucy waited for her.

Lucy sat at the back seat, her face turned away from Charlotte.

Charlotte sat at the drivers seat, watching her from the rear mirror, feeling hurt that she was avoiding to speak to her.

” What took you soo long?” Charlotte asked the moment Collette got into the car.

” I told an old friend goodbye,” Collette replied curtly but her voice was shaking. ” Let’s go.”

” Where to now?” Charlotte asked, starting the ignition.

” The hospital, first,” Collette said, glancing over her shoulder to stare at Lucy. ” How are you feeling, Lucy?”

Lucy didn’t answer, she looked away, her big eyes smaller with heavy bags under them.

Charlotte sighed sadly and drove away. ” The hospital it is.”

The Range Rover raced away into the highway, leaving the apartment of the PRIEST behind them which had suddenly grown quiet and haunting.
