Read Story: SEASON 2 EPISODE 9
” Lucy?” Her voice was tiny and small.
My mouth moved too. ” Sylvia?”
It was Sylvia…the lesbo from Facebook!
We stared at each other, unable to believe our eyes. I was more surprised. I hadn’t reckoned on seeing Sylvia anytime soon. I had completely forgotten all about her until now.
It’s amazing how different she looked from the picture she sent to me.
Sylvia was of average height with a freckled face. Her skin was like old mahogany: smooth and hairless. She had perfect teeth and there was that sparkle in her eyes that was something to see.
If I was to be a judge, I’d say she would be in her late teens.
” What’s going on here?” Charlotte’s voice brought me back to Earth.
” Umm…” I licked my lips. ” It’s nothing. Nothing.”
” You know each other?”
I didn’t feel comfortable to start explaining my new founded friendship between Sylvia and I on Facebook so I shook my head.
” I don’t suppose I do.”
Charlotte glanced at me then at Sylvia. ” Alright, an ice cream and a beer.”
I watched Sylvia walk away to get our order, her face puzzled with questions.
” Sorry about last night, lil sis,” Charlotte said Immediately. ” I guess I got drunk. Sneaking up on you like that was soo out of place.”
” It’s alright,” I said, my mind still on Sylvia. ” I asked for it, didn’t I?”
Charlotte was studying me. I looked at her, s------g my face. ” You keep staring at me that way. What’s with that look?”
Charlotte crossed her legs, leaning her face on her hand. ” I want us to talk about Collette.”
This was the discussion I’ve been waiting to have with her. ” What about Collette?”
” What does she look like now?” Charlotte asked. ” It’s been ages since last I saw her.”
” She’s just like you,” I answered, trying to dig Collette out of those dreads. ” But Collette doesn’t keep her hair in dreads. She wears it long or plaits it decently in shape. Also, she doesn’t wear a tattoo.”
Charlotte showed her teeth. ” Funny how you’re just describing the opposite of myself to Collette.”
” Well, there isn’t much difference between you two.”
” There definitely are,” Charlotte insisted. ” Does Collette have a boyfriend?”
This was an unexpected question and it quipped my interest. ” No she doesn’t, why asking?”
Charlotte frowned. ” So she’s still the same old girl.”
I instantly had this certain feeling there was something about Collette that Charlotte knew.
” What do you mean?”
She leaned back on her chair as Sylvia returned with our order. After placing her beer and my ice cream on the table, she stood back and left not after giving me a concealed smile.
Charlotte opened her drink and s----d from the bottle. I’ve seen girls get drunk with alcohol but I never imagine seeing Collette drinking alcohol. Looking at Charlotte, I had this sickening feeling Charlotte was going to be a hell of a big sister.
” She always gets in trouble with the girls at school,” Charlotte said, dropping the bottle on the table. Her eyes gazed at me and she grimaced. ” Always fighting.”
I recalled Collette talking about her three suspension from school due to her numerous fights with girls over Vee.
” Why was she always fighting?” I asked, anxious to know if she knew Collette was a lesbo.
Charlotte wrinkled her nose. ” Trouble with a teacher at school I guess.”
She doesn’t want to stretch the topic any further so I didn’t push it.
” Why did your parents split up?” I asked, opening my ice cream. ” Collette didn’t tell me what happened.”
” Neither did I,” Charlotte said with a stiff smile on her cheeks. ” We both woke up one morning and saw our parents moving out. Our mother took Collette while Dad took me. I whined dad about why we were moving without Collette and our mother but he wouldn’t say a thing to me. I couldn’t contact my lil sis nor our mom. Dad didn’t care to give me an explanation of what happened. All he said was we were going to start a new life together. I grew up with that and forgot about the divorce but I never forgot about my lil sis. When he engaged your mom and I learnt you were attending the same school with her, I knew she was safe and sound. I missed her but it’s a d--n shame we’re never going to reunite as a family.”
” That’s not true,” I said, leaning forward. ” Mom gave Collette the invitation card to her wedding. She’s gonna handle Collette’s flight tickets and all found. Collette’s coming for the wedding. You’re going to see your sister again. I’m sure of that.”
Charlotte laughed a ridiculous laugh. ” Lucy that’s really optimistic of you but sorry to burst your bubble, she won’t come.”
I suddenly lost my appetite. ” You’re wrong. She’ll make it for the wedding.”
” Collette hates our dad, Lucy,” Charlotte said instead. ” She’s not going to honor the invitation not after the divorce. You don’t know Collette as I do. She’d rather stay home and study.”
I wanted to say something when her phone rang. Pulling it out, she stood to her feet. ” You’ll excuse me, lil sis. Let me take this call real quick.”
And she left me to go answer the call outside.
I stared at my ice cream, feeling sad and thoughtful. I kept thinking about what Charlotte said about Collette hating her dad and the fact that they were never going to be a family again.
” Is there anything else you might like?” A familiar voice said over me.
I glanced up to see Sylvia smiling down at me.
” Where did you sprung from?” I asked, giving her my best smile.
” I work here,” she said quietly, looking behind her to check if Charlotte was coming. ” Was that your brother?”
I covered my mouth and laughed. ” She’s a girl.”
Sylvia blew her cheeks. ” She doesn’t look like that to me. Let me guess, your girlfriend?”
” That’s gross,” I laughed. ” She’s my big sister. You know, It’s crazy how we only chatted five hours ago and now we’re meeting.”
” Coincidence I guess,” Sylvia stared at my lips then at my big eyes. ” Gosh, you look Soo pretty, Lucy. I’ve never seen any girl with such big beautiful eyes.”
I felt my cheeks burn. ” You don’t look bad yourself, Sylvia.”
We stared at each other for sometime and there was that heart racing feeling I get whenever I’m around Collette.
” Call me,” she said, moving away. ” Or text me once you arrive home.”
” I will,” I waved her away. Just then Charlotte returned back.
” That’s George calling,” she said, settling back on her seat. She took one long gulp from her bottle, finishing it out rightly. ” We’d better start heading back home. I have a date tonight with George.”
I groaned. ” Again? You’re gonna stay late?”
Charlotte shocked her head. ” I’ll be back before 9.pm. But first, we’ve got to go prepare supper. You can cook, can’t you?”
I shoved my half eaten ice cream and stood up. ” I can’t cook, sorry.”
” I’ll teach you,” she stood up as well, slipping some money under the bottle of beer to pay for our bills. ” How else do you intend to get married if you can’t cook?”
I wondered if I would ever get married to a man. My feelings for the opposite s£x was soo dead I became frightened for my future.
We passed Sylvia as she was attending to another customer. I caught her smiling at me from the corner her eyes and I returned the smile back.
” Call me,” she mouthed.
” I will,” I mouthed back. ” Bye.”

The drive back was more crazier than before. I was thankful we arrived safely. Now I understand why step dad surrendered the car to her. Charlotte’s a crazy driver just take it from me.
Helping her take the groceries into the kitchen, Charlotte stood by the doorway, staring at me from head to toe.
I noticed her watching me and I turned to meet her searching gaze. ” Now you’re freaking me out with those looks of yours. What did I do this time?”
Charlotte’s eyes hardened and I stiffened. I no longer saw Charlotte, I saw Collette.
I saw the deadpan, cold expression on her face and her dreadlocks highlighted her remoteness.
” Lucy, can I ask you a question?”
I backed myself against the kitchen table, biting my lips. ” I guess so.”
Her eyes searched mine and her lips peeled off to speak. ” Why are you gay?”
I turned to stone. ” What sort of question is that?”
She raised my phone before me. It was my Google browsing history.

Those were my browsing history that I’d been soo stupid to not have erased.
I went cold then hot. My mouth opened but no words came out.
Charlotte glared at me and her voice went rusty like nails.
” Lucy, are you a lesbian?!”
