THE LOVE OF A BROTHER

When he left, I was deep in thought and didn’t know what to do to occupy my mind in order not to think too much about his desire to go ahead with this madness he called ’marriage.’ I decided to use my leisure time to read the story book titled “Love of a brother.”

But come to think of it, why did he give me that story book in the first place. Quite lazily, I took the story book on top of the small drawer* beside my bed. I flipped the book open and began to read.

In the story, Rosemary was born in a secluded village on a mountain to very poor parents. One day, she stole her father’s money to buy a handkerchief, which all girls around her seemed to have. When her fatter discovered the theft and ask them,

her brother owned up after their he threatened to punish them all.Her brother even dropped out of high school to enable her go to the university.

One day, while she was studying in her room, her roommate came in and told her, ‘There’s a villager waiting for you outside!’

She walked out, and she saw her brother from afar. His whole body was covered with dirt, dust, cement and sand. She asked him, ‘Why did you not tell my roommate that you are my brother?’

He replied with a smile, ‘Look at my appearance. What will they think if they would know that I am your brother? Won’t they laugh at you?’

She felt so touched, and tears filled her eyes. She swept away dirt and dust from her brother’s body and told him with a lump in her throat, ‘I don’t care what people would say! You are my brother no matter what your appearance.’

From his pocket, he took out a butterfly hair clip. He put it on my hair and said, ‘I saw all the girls in town are wearing it. I think you should also have one.’ She could not hold back herself anymore. She pulled her brother into her arms and cried.

During her brother’s marriage, at the wedding reception, the master of ceremonies asked him, ‘Who is the one person you respect and love the most? ‘Without even taking a time to think, he answered,’ My sister.’

All guests turned their attention to Rosemary. She found it hard to speak and eventually said In her whole life, the one She would like to thank most was her brother. In front of the crowd, tears were rolling down her face again.The story ended with the couples living a happy married life.

When I finish reading the story book, I was moved to read it over and over again. The message is clear, Love and care for the one you love every single day of your life. You may think what you did is just a small deed, but to that someone, it may mean a lot.

I could imagine Martin showing me all the love in the world. I wished it was not just a story but the reality on the ground. I could have been the happiest girl on planet Earth.

I was inspired to fight for the love of my brother but I have to be more tactful about it, now that he had made up his mind to marry that ‘girl.’

A week later, Wedding invitation cards were shared, announcements were made, families were told and the date was fixed for the wedding. The night before the wedding, Claudia came to my room so that we could put finishing touches to her gown and other unfinished wedding plans. We worked till deep in the nigh. She slept over at my place. Family members kept coming in.
