Bosco's POV

I got discharged the following day. Being at home wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Joseph and Madam Jane were good company enough. Isabel stopped by once in a while.

I took Sommy’s advise to open up more to Joseph. I finally told him about the job offer and he accepted it with joy.

“Has she called you?” I asked referring to the girl he met at the beach.

“Or have you called her”

“Yea.. We’ve spoken severally; just that we’ve never met since then. We’ll fix a time and place but everything would be in it’s own time”

“If you need anything at all, anything, just let me know”

“Anything like pads?” He asked and I chuckled.

“I meant cash”

“Everything I need is in this house and I’m glad I’m here to help you out when you need the help”

While I laid in bed, to have my good night sleep, I got a call from Peter. He told me he had an information concerning Mary. Then he broke the sad news that she ran away from where she lives with a friend the moment she realized she was been trailed.

She thought Peter was a police officer coming to arrest her.

“I have a few persons who have an idea or two where she might have hidden”

“What’s the matter? You sound…”

“Nothing” he answered but I wanted to know more. That sounded like his ‘there are more bad news’ voice.

“Spill, how bad is it?”

“It’s your sister, I saw her before she ran and ….” He paused,

“I don’t want to break any more bad news to you, but you probably don’t believe in witches or so but there are speculations around that she’s a witch and..”

“Seriously?”

“She’s been branded a witch, if you see how she looks, you’ll get scared”

“What are you saying?”

“There’s no way I’m dragging myself in this, they said she brings badluck to anyone that goes near her. Coolval stories This is scary for even me. You might have to come and get her personally.”

“That’s what believing in all this crap does to you. You begin to entertain fear.”

“The fear has been entertained already. As much as you’re paying me to find your siblings, I’m doing a hell of a job here but this,” he scoffed,

“Anything witchcraft? Nah, I don’t involve myself in them. I’m sorry”

Sommy's POV

After seeing Bob with his pregnant mistress, I began to wonder why Amanda hadn’t given birth since they had been married for three years. Was it that she had problems. I asked Susan but she claimed Amanda was alright only experiencing delays.

Tuesday went by slowly, there was no move from either Susan or I to tell Amanda of what we saw at the mall. I didn’t inform mom either.

We were both really scared of her reaction. I woke as early as five on Wednesday. I couldn’t sleep at night, I thought of how I would tell Amanda of Bob’s cheating habits.

I picked up my phone, swiped over to the contacts then I called Susan.

“I was even about to call you” she began and I sighed.

“I’ve been thinking of Amanda” I answered,

“Let’s tell her today” she suggested.

“I couldn’t help but notice your use of let’s… Sorry but I’m not tagging along with you”

“I’m not doing this alone either. So it’s either we keep her in the dark or we actually open to her about it. Are you in or not?”

I had therapy session with Bosco, so I had to go over to his house before meeting up with Susan to execute ‘operation tell Amanda the truth’ plan.

“I’ll be traveling to Uyo on Friday” Bosco blurted out and I almost screamed at him. He wasn’t even in a good shape.

“Are you serious?”

“I’m dead serious”

“why?” I asked,

“Peter has a lead on where Mary is but she’s refusing to follow him and he’s also scared to insist because everyone thinks she’s a witch and automatically, he believes she’s a witch”

“You’re not in the right shape to go”

“I didn’t hit a trailer, stop treating me like a trailer fell on me”

“It’s your health I’m worried about” I answered squeezing his hands softly.

“This is my only chance to go. I was going to ask if you would come along” he proposed and I pulled my hands away.

“I’m sorry I can’t. You should ask Isabel”

“I will… I wanted to ask you first. I’d rather have you accompany me”

“I have work, you’re not my only client… Lately you make it look like I’m your only client but you’re not. I have a whole lot of people I counsel”

“Sorry.. seems like you’re in a bad mood”

There was a brief silence for a moment,

“My cousin and I caught Amanda’s husband with his mistress”

“Oh”

“We’re going to tell her today. I’m just a bit shaky. I don’t know what to do”

“I’m sorry” he apologized and my eyes got really heavy then he stretched his arms and I leaned In for a warm hug.

Susan called Amanda up for lunch while we waited for her in a restaurant.

“What is she doing here?” I heard her ask behind me,

“I can explain” Susan answered rising from the chair.

“You should listen to her own side of the story why she did that thing to Bob”

“What side of the story? I refuse to stay here and watch Sommy speak ill about my husband”

“Please Amanda. I think you should sit and listen to us”

“Sommy doesn’t have anything reasonable to say”

“Would you just sit your ass and listen?” I snapped and she batted her eyes at me.

“Let’s get on with this” she answered taking her seat.

“Susan is the only reason why I agreed to sit. What is it you want to say?”

“It’s about Bob” she added and I saw Amanda roll her eyes.

“Bob and Sommy have always been enemies, what could he have said to have made you pour soup on his face?”

“What he said doesn’t matter now”

“What does?” She asked,

Susan and I became quiet. We both didn’t know how to break the news to her.

“What’s going on Susan?”

“Bob is cheating on you” I answered and I saw her scoff then she laughed hysterically.

“You lie! Bob would never cheat. Susan tell me it’s a lie”

“It’s not…we saw them… Bob has a mistress” she answered,

“Not just a mistress, a pregnant one” i added and she shut her eyes.

I saw tears roll down her eyes and she quickly wiped them off.

“Amanda” Susan called out and she shook her head stretching a finger at her as though to stop her from speaking.

“I would like to be alone” she stood up to leave.

Suddenly I remembered how Bosco almost died after leaving my office the other day.

“You’re not in a good condition to drive” I sounded off and I saw her glare at me.

“It’s true” Susan agreed and she moved backwards,

“I’ll be fine” she pushed a chair and almost fell on the floor.

“Amanda!” Susan called out,

“I’m fine” she answered leaving and and we followed her.

“You’re not fine” i yelled and she turned to me letting out a scoff.

“You’re happy now aren’t you? Now you can go behind me and make fun of me”

“I’m not happy this happened to you Amanda. Bob has never been the right one, you blindly got married to him”

“Shut up Sommy, don’t act like you care. You don’t! You’ve ever wanted is for me to be unhappy because I had it all in life and you didn’t. You’ve always been jealous. Now you can have your laugh, you win” she answered.

“Please don’t let her drive alone” I begged Susan who said she had somewhere to go.

“Drive her yourself” Susan snapped and scratched my hair.

“I can’t drive well” I answered almost dying in shame.

“I’m not perfect, i…” I stalled watching Amanda walking over to her car.

“Please meet her before she does something stupid” I begged and she grunts stomping her feet on the ground.

“Things I do because i love you guys” she answered calling out to Amanda.

I watched her argue with her until she got the keys from her.

Amanda’s angry gaze rested on me till the car drove out of sight.

I went back to the office where I met Mrs. Ajayi waiting for me in front of my office.

“Where’s Filda?” She asked,

“I gave her break from work to deal with wedding things” i answered and she stood up from the chair she sat on.

“Someone looks ugly” she dropped a magazine she was reading on Filda’s table.

Maybe I deserved it. I looked really sad. I had a lot in mind that my ‘sweeping it under the rug’ technique couldn’t work on and I just needed to get them off my mind.

“A penny for your thought?” She asked as I opened the door then we walked in.

“My brother in law cheated and now I’m the b*tch for letting my sister know about it.”

“You’re not a btch, she doesn’t know how much you care about her. She’s the bigger btch” she answered closing the door.

“I feel sorry for her”

“Wanna talk?” She asked and I shook my head.

“Why are you here?” I asked trying to avoid the topic.

“Don’t tell me you’ve had s*x with your cousin”

“No” she answered chuckling.

“I decided to use your no sx technique to see if I can go without sx in other to control my urge” She paused with an assuring smile and my lips curved into a smile.

I knew what she was going to say. I felt proud of her.

“I tried to go the day without s*x….” She paused,

“Sorry it didn’t work out, but it almost did” she answered and I shook my head in disappointment.

I took my seat and she laughed.

“It was with my husband. That counts right?” She asked and I hissed pulling my notepad close to me.

“How’s Bosco?” She asked,

her cheek rested on her palm as her eyes focused on me in interest.

“He’ll be traveling on Friday to Akwa Ibom”

“Shouldn’t he be on bed rest?” She answered and I wondered how she got to find out. Definitely from Filda!

“He wants me to go along with him”

“Go!”

“I don’t want to”

“Why? What your Dr. Sommy need is someone that would give you some good good loving. I mean good s*x.”

“Should I remind you again that he has a girlfriend.”

“What’s your deal with this guy. I know you owe your client confidentiality, but can you just let me in on what’s going on?” She asked,

“Filda refused telling me. Can you tell me?” She asked and I opened up to her.

But as usual, Mrs. Ajayi proved to be more crazy than I am. She advised I take the adventure with him and take the opportunity to try to have s*x with him to find out if he’s been cured.

I called Bosco up after work.

“Does your offer still stand?”

“What offer?” he asked,

“What other offer? I meant the one where I have to be your escort to Uyo” i replied.

“Seriously? Thanks”

“Why are you thanking me? I did it because i need a time out from all of this drama and I’ll be fulfilling my dream of one day going to Uyo”

“Would it kill you to say You’re welcome?” He asked and i chuckled.

“You’re welcome”

I honestly couldn’t wait for the day to come. I began to think of things that could possibly happen.

Mom called me up later in the night. She informed me that Amanda had kicked Bob out of the house and she blamed me for it.

I hung up on her call. I couldn’t believe she could say something so inconsiderate.

She would rather her own daughter live with a cheating husband. It was so infuriating. All the more reason to leave Lagos!

Isabel's POV

Bosco told me about this trip to his home town. He asked me if i would like to come along but I declined. The last thing I wanted was to spend my weekends being stucked in Bosco’s missing siblings drama. I got worried after he informed me that his therapist has agreed to follow him.

Something inside of me felt as though I was losing him gradually. I didn’t even know how to remedy it, I already told him I won’t be going with him.

My life has been filled with more drama after Tasha and I had our fight. She has been avoiding me, she barely stays at home because she knows I’ll be there.

There’s no blame mom didn’t put on me for speaking rudely to her. Staying at home has been so frustrating!

Bosco left in the morning. I didn’t feel like letting him go. I felt sick.

Nkechi made tea and toast.

Joseph and Madam Jane were at the table too. There was an awkward silence. We haven’t spoken since the usual ‘good morning’ greeting.

I could barely eat my toast. I began to feel nauseated and a bit dizzy.

I sipped the tea hoping to control that feeling of vomiting but it didn’t work. I felt like I would vomit that instant if I didn’t rush to the bathroom so I covered my mouth racing to the toilet where I puked.

“Isabel are you okay?” I heard Madam Jane say behind me and I began to ask myself the same question.

I suspected malaria.

There’s only two sickness in the world that would make me vomit, malaria or typhoid.

“Are you okay?” She asked again and I nodded.

“It’s definitely Malaria. I haven’t treated it three months” I answered vomiting again.

“Are you sure?” She passed a bottled water over to me.

“Woman to woman, when last did you see your menses?” She asked and I paused in thought.

“Two weeks ago” I lied.

The truth is that I haven’t seen it for the month. I checked my calendar after she left, I was two weeks late.

I went to a pharmacy, got myself a pregnancy test strip, went back home to conduct the test. It came out positive.

To be continued…
