Living with Steven has been an experience for me.. Not only do I hang out and socialize with people but I could do whatever I wanted…

I’ve been in the upper class life since when I was born.. I’ve never had the chance to mingle or see the real world and how people deal with it.. The only thing I did was work and hang out with wealthy folks who do nothing but talk about trips to abroad and exclusive parties.

One major advantage of my stay with Steven was that I got to experience what real love is like… My romance with Steven wasn’t like that of romeo and Juliet.. It was all about mutual respect and understanding, though we were in love but we were more like best friends.. We get to talk, laugh and understand more and more about each other and we each respect each other’s privacy.. Though on my part, I wasn’t completely honest with Steven cause I haven’t yet told him about my true self.

But most of the times, I wished Steven would try and step up his game,… You know like to tame me and all that.. We do kiss a lot but we haven’t had sex.. I never had sex before cause I was too busy working and doing other stuff… I wanted to know what it feels to have sex for once… It’s not like I’m complaining, I do like Steven and I understand he’s just giving me my space.. But just for once I would like him to own me… All the same, I still love him.

Despite getting Steven’s love, I wasn’t getting any from people around me, especially His mom and his friend Abubakar… Don’t blame them though.. They’re just doing what anyone would do.. That is to watch out for those they care about especially when they’re in a situation like Steven’s.

From the start.. I had this feeling Abubakar didn’t like me… It’s not like he hated me.. It’s just that he didn’t trust me.. And I can’t blame him for that.. I did my best to avoid him and stay from him as far as I can.. But like all things, Fate had its way of doing things..

One Tuesday afternoon, I was in the house, when Abubakar came to look for Steven, I told him Steven wasn’t around.. He said nothing but gave me a scornful look.. At first I didn’t care.. But I realized it was best to settle things and talk to him about why he was treating me like I was his sworn enemy.

Monica Mallam Abubakar!

Abubakar Yes?

Monica Ever since I started staying in this house, I noticed that you don’t like my presence at all.. I don’t really much care but why are you treating me like this? What have I ever done to you?

Abubakar Look don’t get me wrong.. I don’t hate or despise you.. I just don’t trust you..

Monica Why? Because I’m a stranger..

Abubakar Not only are you a stranger, you’re also a mystery.. You have a big question mark on you.. We know nothing about you.. That’s what I’m afraid of.. Steven is my friend, despite our differences… He’s like a brother to me… Steven is a very good man and a caring one at that.. Because of his goof nature, the previous women he dated use that against him and played him for a fool..

Steven loves you dearly.. I haven’t seen him this excited or happy with any lady before… But what I’m afraid of is.. He might be making the same mistake…. What I want to ask you is.. Do you really love him?

Monica Of course I do… I know you might now believe me.. But I really do.. What does it take for you to believe me?

Abubakar Nothing… I believe in the phrase “Actions speak louder than words”.. I’ll have nothing to say but watch.. It’s Stevens choice not mine but for his sake, I hope you truly meant what you said..

After that, he left living me standing and worried.. I really do love Steven but if I tell him about who I am, he’ll want me to go back. And I know there’s no way my father will allow me to go back to Steven.. No way.. So the best thing is I keep this myself.

And let’s not forget.. Steven’s mother… That one is a real burden.. She believes that I charmed her son.. She didn’t hide her hatred towards me.. She bluntly said it out loud she hated me..

That Same Saturday evening.. Steven and I were inside the house talking when his mom came.. She was furious and angry that I was still with her son.

Vivian Steven!!

Steven Mama! Good evening.

Vivian Hold your greeting! So that witch is still in your house abi?

Steven Mama, please come inside and let’s talk..

It took a while before Steven calmed her down and made her enter the house.. As soon as she saw me, she gave me a hiss, She sat down opposite Steven telling him her mind.

Vivian Look. Steven… I’ve tolerated this long enough. This w---e has to go..

Steven Mama, what is this? Monica has done nothing wrong! She’s staying in this house.

Vivian So instead of you to get a better woman like Uzoma, you chose this filth!

Steven Mama, she’s not a filth, intact she’s my girlfriend and we’re staying here together..

Vivian Chaii!!!! God why me? Why? So Steven you’ve decided to shame me by being in love with a w---e? Tell me what do you know about her?

Steven I don’t know.. In fact she’s doesn’t remember anything about herself.. I found her on the streets and bought her here to stay with me until. She’s find out who she is..

Vivian Steven you’re a fool… Bringing some one you don’t know. Into your house? What if she’s a terrorist?

Steven Mama., don’t be ridiculous.. She was injured, and if I hadn’t saved her she would have died.

Vivian Why must you be the one? Are you the only good Samaritan in this world? Why couldn’t you close your eyes or pretended you didn’t see her as you passed ? Now you’re stuck with her.

Steven I’m ashamed of you, mom! What I did is my business and it’s none of your concern.. I chose this.. And what I did isn’t a crime.

Vivian She may be your business.. But you’re my son.. My only son.. I have the right as your mom to watch out for you.. This world is filled with horrors you can’t imagine, even the righteous ones can’t escape from it.. If anything happens to you, I have nothing left..

I felt the pain in Steven’s mom’s voice.. I felt sad and sorry for her.. No one could blame her.. After all she was doing what any mother would do for her child.. This was all my fault.

If I hadn’t been in an accident, if only I hadn’t ran away from Abuja to come to Kano, if I had stayed back at home.. This wouldn’t have happened.

Steven’s mom soon left the place leaving Steven in a confused and worried state.. I didn’t want him having any tiff with his mother because of me.. But I can’t leave Steven.. I love him and what’s more. I’d rather stay with him than go back to Abuja.

That night wasn’t good of any of us.. I don’t know about Steven but i sat half way through the night thinking.

The next morning, After Steven had left for the Market.. I went to see Elena about Steven’s mom, hoping she could give me some tips to over come the old woman.

Monica My sister, that’s what happened.

Elena This is serious! So did Steven do or say?

Monica Nothing… But why can’t she understand ehn? I love her son.. But she doesn’t seem to care..

Elena Well, I have one advice for you. Try to talk to the woman and win her trust..

Monica I don’t think that will work.. In doubt if she’ll ever listen to me at all.

Elena Monica just try and see.. One never knows until they’ve tried..

Monica Thanks for your advice.. I try to talk to her…. Okay I have to go back and clean the house..

Elena Okay my sister… Ehn abeg wait..

Monica What is it?

Elena I’ve been meaning to ask you for awhile now.. Please which hair cream or shampoo do you use? I’ve noticed your hair, and I haven’t for once seen it get rough or anything and what amazes me is how long and stretched it is..

Monica (laughs) Okay I’ll tell you.. I use Pantene shampoo..

Elena Pantene? But that’s quite expensive now! My husband won’t give me that much money for that..

Monica Just try asking him.. If he really wants your hair to be like mine.. He won’t deny you the money.

Elena Okay, thanks for the tip.

After that Elena and I went our separate ways… I spent the half of the day tiding and cleaning the house.. After that, I took my bath and dressed in my best.. I was planning to have sex with Steven tonight.. I was tired of waiting for him to make his move so. I’m going to make it easy for him and make love to him tonight.

Later that evening… I waited for Steven but he was not yet back.. Hours later, he wasn’t yet back.. I tried calling his number but he wasn’t answering… I began to get scared.. I walked up and down the room as I kept dialing his number.. My mind wasn’t at rest at all.. I checked the time and saw it was 11:00pm.. This time I was panicking… My heart was racing and beating faster and louder..

So I decided to go and look for help, So I covered my body with a more proper cloth.. As I stepped out of the house.. I saw Steven’s body a few distance away from the house.. I was terrified and scared.. Why was his body lying over there.. I quickly rushed and see what wrong with him.

As I got close to him, I noticed he was unconscious and injured, blood stained his clothes.. I quickly touched his pulse to see if he was alive.. But before that could happen, Some guys came upon us, one slapped me hard across the face.. God it was painful.. I fell back in pain holding my face.. Though it was dark but I noticed the guys were wearing a mask.. One rushed to where Steven was, with a knife in his hands.. While the other mounted on me, he quickly removed his trousers covering my mouth so I wouldn’t shout.. This bastard was trying to rape me.. But in his haste, he forgot I had legs.. So i used my knee, and hit it hard on his balls.. He quickly clutched his smelly d--k in pain, I quickly stood up and saw a stone nearby,.. I took it and hit it on his head but he used his hand to cover the blow but that didn’t help him, I struck hard breaking his hand.. He shouted something like *WAIYOO ALLAH” and took off like a rabbit being chased by a dog.. I quickly reached for the one trying to kill Steven, I used all my might and brought the stone down on his head..

*CRACK!!!!

From the cracking sound, I must have cracked his skull or broken his neck, after that, He shouted hard into the night and fell on the ground.. I rushed at Steven to see if he was stabbed .. But he wasn’t.. In that Moment, Abubakar came out from his house and saw what happened.. He rushed towards us and gasped as he saw me and Steven covered in blood, without wasting any time.. He helped me carry Steven into his house.. In my mind.. I recalled what Steven’s mom said and prayed that he remains alive.
