Magistrate: I am Justice Ekemini Etieno,to preside today. So clerk over to you.

Clerk: Thank you my lord, 16th of September. Two cases on ground ; First case is the case of a woman who murdered her husband during their honeymoon. Second case is the case of a barren couple that allegedly kidnapped their neighbour’s child.

Magistrate: Can i have the report?

Clerk: Right here, my lord. (Goes to him and gives him some documents).

Magistrate: (Adjusts his glass) First case, A young woman by the name Emilia Eze who murdered her husband with a gun in their honeymoon. May the suspect step forward. (Emilia steps forward).

Clerk: Are you a muslim or a christian?

Clerk: Take this Bible (Gives her a bible) Repeat after me, i swear by this Bible on my hand that whatever i’m going to say in this court of law is the truth and nothing but the truth,so help me GOD. (she repeats it).

Magistrate: Who are the barristers over this case?

Barr.Ebere: My lord,i’m Barrister Ebere Eze,prosecutingcouncil.

Barr.Efosa: My lord, i’m Barrister Efosa Eghe,defending council.

Magistrate: Okay! (He puts on his glasses).

Barr.Ebere: Emilia,did you or did you not murder your husband ; Ebuka?

Emilia: I didn’t.

Barr.Ebere: Okay, what transpired in your honeymoon in Jowell-Beach?

Emilia: After enjoying ourselves, we decided to rest,we were deliberating on the name to give our first child then….

Barr.Ebere: Then you killed him,you killed him just because your father told you to do so. So why are you covering up? (with serious looks).

Barr.Efosa: Objection,my lord! (stands up).

Magistrate: Objection sustained.

Barr.Efosa: Thank you lord,Before Mrs Emilia Eze and her late husband; Ebuka Eze were allowed to marry,it took time. Great time i must say,firstly Mr. Ebo Ekun,Emilia’s father disapproved of the marriage,also Barr.Ebere detested the idea. It was as if both sides were frustrating them,Emilia was growing weaker and became very ill when they weren’t allowed to get married, Ebuka on the other hand attempted suicide.

Barr.Ebere: Objection my lord!

Magistrate: Objection dismissed.

Barr.Efosa: Now tell me how people,who had to go through that would think of hurting the other talkless of murder,during their supposed best day of their life. Tell me!

Barr.Ebere: Objection ,my lord.

Magistrate: Thank you,i heard Barr.Efosa ; say that Ebuka attempted suicide because of the marriage,but that is a big and blantant lie,infact the person that invented the rumour is an incorrigible liar.

Ebuka attempted suicide because of some family affairs and he didn’t really mean to do that,he just wanted to scare me.

Magistrate: The prosecuting council, Barr.Ebere you just mentioned family affairs,do you mind telling this honourable court what were the family affairs? (Murmuring occurs in the court room).

Clerk: Order! (silence takes it place).

Barr.Ebere: They are private,so i can’t say them in public. What i was insinuating is that Emilia killed Ebuka,they planned the whole marriage thing like a ‘Nollywood Movie’ as a ploy to kill him, you can also check the finger-print analysis for more clarifications.

Barr.Efosa: Objection my lord!
Magistrate: Objection sustained.

Barr.Efosa: I was able to gather that Ebuka had an ex-fiancee’ who was not pleased with the marriage between Emilia and Ebuka,don’t you think she is responsible for the murder,because she threatened to deal with him .

Barr.Ebere: (interrupts) No it’s not Erica,if Erica is the murderer, why did the finger-print analysis pose Emilia as the murderer,how can two people have the same finger-print?

Magistrate: It’s okay,okay. This case is still indecisive,so i hereby adjourn this case to october 9th. (Hits his mallet on the desk).

Clerk: Court rise! (Everyone rises).
