Dad:” Good morning sir” my dad greeted the proprietor as he climbed up the platform.


Proprietor: ” Good morning sir” he greeted back.


Dad:”Please I hope there isn’t any problem, Mr Williams, what are you doing here?” He asked turning to Sandra’s dad.


Proprietor: “You know him?”


Dad:” Yes sir, he is the one I employed to manage the branch of my lab at Abeokuta ” my dad said while I looked up in surprise, wait my dad is Sandra’s dad Employer? What a small world.


Proprietor: ” whoa, please sir do you have children in this school?” He asked while my dad turned to me.


Dad:” That is my son Gabriel and my daughter Cynthia and also that my love there Joy ” he said pointing at each of us respectively.

Proprietor:” You see, and they are never proud, or are they?” He asked turning to the students.


Students:” No!!!” They shouted in union.


Miss Linda:” You see, it is a small world.” She whispered to me.


Proprietor: ” Please sir, is that you lab doing well?” He asked again, all this while, Dr.Adegboye, the principal and Mrs Jagun did not say anything, they all stood shaking and sweating.


Dad:” Hmmm, that lab has been suffering big loss for the pass three years now , but that isn’t a problem, I have other labs to cover up. I hope no problem?”

Proprietor:” Oh sorry sir, I didn’t introduce myself, I am Mr.Green the proprietor of this school.”


Dad:” But you ain’t green, anyways its nice meeting you, am Dr.Hugine.” my dad said while they shaked hand.


Miss Linda:” Your dad is handsome and funny o” she said while I adjusted my glasses.


Me:” Mistress Dont eye him o” I said while she punched me. I turned back and saw Charles’s mom holding him, tears was flowing from Charles, his uncle was also with them as they stood and watched the unfolding drama.

Dad:” But Sir, I Still Dont understand, all the drama going on here.”


Proprietor: ” of course you will understand sir, this you manager, has been embezzling your money, he has been using his money to give his daughter authorities in this school, as he is embezzling your money, that is also how those two foolish staff of mine embezzle mine and depend on him for your money.”

He explained.



Dad:”Who say Satan does not have elderly ones? So you mean you Williams who I decided to brush up is squandering my money?” He asked as he turned to Dr Adegboye.


Dad:” Wait, is his daughter the one they call Sandra?” My dad asked why the proprietor nodded.

Dad:” So because of his daughter, my son was suspended? “He shouted this time. Miss Linda went up the platform to help.

Proprietor:” Am sorry sir, it was a mistake” he apologized.

Miss Linda:” We are sorry sir ”


Dad:”Its OK. ” my dad said.


Proprietor:” The both of you, just go out of this school and Dont come back again. You Dont deserve a sack letter” he said pointing at the principal and Mrs Jagun, I saw tears coming out of Mrs Jagun eyes.


Mrs Jagun:” Please sir, forgive us, I have six children ” she pleaded as she cried.


Mrs Jagun:” Ohh, Mr principal see what you’ve caused? ” she cursed.


Principal:” Oh shut up Jagun” he said slapping her.

Principal:”I didn’t force you to do all this.”he said slapping her again.


Proprietor:” Please where are the securities, let them come and push this things away” he said and immediately the securities came and made to push them away.


Mrs Jagun:” Gabriel am sorry, please tell your dad to help us beg, please, how will my six children eat now” she shouted as they pushed her out.

Principal:” Wait now, my bag is still in the office. ” he shouted at the security.


Principal:” Hey remember I employed you o” he said again while a hot slap from the security man landed on his head.

Security: ” Oga move, you never pay me six month salary now” he shouted as he landed another slap on his head again , the proprietor shaked his head in pity for the security.


Akpan:” This is how the evil ones end ”


Miss Linda:”Yes Akpan, this is how they end.” She said as she came and hug me.


Joy:” My guy” she called out as she walked to the back of the assembly where I was.


Me:” My Lady” I replied and I hugged her tight.

Proprietor: ” As for you Sandra, you are expelled, never you step you legs in this school again. Now take you foolish dad and get out ” he shouted as he tuened to Sandra and the student shouted in happiness, the securities were still pushing Mrs Jagun and the principal. Mrs Jagun was now rolling herself on the ground crying, she continued to shout, while the principal was receiving treatment from the security man. ” It is the end of an era.” A junior student shouted.


Dad:” No sir, Dont expel her” my dad suddenly said while the student shouted in disagreement.


Proprietor: “Why?”he asked calmly


Dad:”Because, the school and her dad made her what she is, if there was discipline in the school she might not have turned to this, she is still a young girl, give her the last chance ” he said, the principal looked at him for a while and nodded.


Dad:”As for you Williams, I won’t sack you, but today, you should start work with the security men unless you want to go away willingly” my dad said smiling as Dr. Adegboye bursted into tears.

Sandra:” Gabriel please, forgive me, beg your dad for me, please its the devil, am sorry, Dont let us end this way, Joy please beg him for me” she said as she came and held my feet.

Joy:” Get away from here witch ” she said as she tried pushing Sandra away but I held her back and carried Sandra up. My dad looked at me and I nodded, he understood my nod and he patted Dr.Adegboye/Mr Williams.


Dad:” You have been given a second chance.” He said calmly while the students jumped in uproar.

Miss Linda:” You dad is good” she said holding me.

Proprietor: ” You are a good man ”


Dad:” Yeah that what my wife also tells me anytime she need money” he said while we all laughed.


Charles:” Hey guys, welcome back my mom, She was dead now she is back, all thanks To Dr.Hugine, Da DOC. ” he said with tears still in his eyes and the student shouted again, Mrs oluwafemi was then called forward and she shared her story which left us with tears. My dad took pity on her and he gave her is card so that he can get a job for her in one of his labs. Miss Linda was also given an employment as a manager in another branch of his lab. Cynthia had stories to tell that day as my mom, Eunice and Desmond sat down listening to her all night, Joy followed me to my house that day and I followed her back home.


======> Two years later, we graduated from the school, I took pictures with Joy, Sandra, Charles, and Akpan. I took more pictures with joy. After the graduation party, we all went for the holiday. Two weeks into the holiday, I tried contacting Joy but her number wasn’t going. I went to her house and I was told by one of their neighbours that they had relocated to Lagos. I was angry with Joy for she didn’t tell me she was leaving. I had to continue my life without her, the only thing I did was to look at the pictures we took together in my phone and cry when I remember those memories. I slso tried contacting her through facebook, but i never saw her online again, i left messages for her but she never replied. I did not love any other girl again. I hoped one day Joy will come back.


====> So that was my secondary story, right now am a 100 level student of Benin city, Eunice is now done with school and working in a bank like my mom, Cynthia is now in Sss 3, she is the food prefect of Mr. Green Academy. I stood up from my bed as I took my note to go out for class, just then my room mate entered.


Kelvin:” Gabriel, Lucy has been disturbing me that she like you o” he said.


Me:” Who is Lucy?”


Kelvin:” That girl that is always disturbing you teach her physics now.”


Me:”OK. Let’s go to class.” I said. Maybe I should just move on, the Lucy is also a beautiful good girl. I took my ATM card as I hoped to withdraw some money before going to class.

Kelvin:” Oya make we go.” He said as I put my lab coat into my bag. I also took my glass from the table and put it on. We then walked together to school, I joined the fedility bank queue waiting to withdraw.

Kelvin:”Na die we go die here today, see how queue long” he said as I stood at the back.

Voice:”Please bros, am behind you o, let me go and buy something” I heard that voice, i can never forget that voice in my life. I turned back immediately and behold it was really JOY.


Me:”Joy!!!!!!” I shouted as everyone on the line turned to me. She turned back immediately.

Joy:”My guy!!!!” she shouted as she ran to me and jumped on me.


Joy:”I know I will see you again” she said as tears fell from her eyes, I held up her head and kissed her forehead.


Me:”What is mine will surely be mine” I said as I kissed her head again. ” Hey, I go love ooo” some girls on the queue murmured. ” The guy don see he own love be that, but the girl package o” another guy said. Just then my glasses fell down and one passerby without noticing stepped on it and broke it into pieces. I broke from the hug slowly as I bent down and picked the pieces of the glass.


Me:”I will miss you bro” I said to it.


Joy:” Dont worry, I will go with you tomorrow to the optician, another glass will be given to you.” She said as I dropped the pieces of the glass. ” Bros abeg no vex” the person who had stepped on the glass apologized while I smiled and nodded. I stood up and continued my hug with Joy again.

Joy:” You look handsome without the glasses” she said as the hug became more tight. ” He don do now” one student shouted. ” Abeg leave them” another one said. I held Joy hand as we walked back to my apartment.


Me:” What happened? Where did you go? You just left me.” I said as we walked outside the main school gate.

Joy:” Love, that is a long story, a story for another day” she replied. ” I have seen my true love guys, go get yours.” We stopped at the school gate and hugged again, the security men had to come and break the hug for us this time.

From a small joint beside the main gate, the song seven lives by beautiful Nubi was being played ” Children crying on the street, Automobiles are making noise, the land is growing dry and weak, spirit lying low……” It became faint as I and Joy crossed the road.
