Sandra:” How did you get that?”

Me:” My own little secret”

Sandra:” Give it back” she said while I smiled.

Me:” Now you can go ahead and tell them but you guys got no evidence against me, I will present this to the panel if I am being sent for. And for this, forget about it” I said as I dipped the recorder in my pocket. Joy who had gone for break now came in, she met I and Sandra in class discussing and she made to pass us but I drew her back.

Me:” its mission accomplished ” I said to her while she smiled.

Joy:” You mean, she foolishly agreed with you?”

Me:” shhh, You can’t tell if she has another audio recorder” I said to Joy holding her hands, Sandra mouth was wide open.

Sandra:” Wait, let me get this straight. Gabriel, you mean you played a fast one on me?” She asked

Me:” A real fast one dear” I said to her nodding my head. I saw tears in her eyes but she struggled to stop them from dropping, she took another look at me and then went to seat down. One thing about me was that I hate making people cry, I hate hurting people but the circumstances I found myself is just the cause of all this. ” But wait, did they care when they made me cry?” I thought to myself, ” anyways I Dont believe in an eye for an eye.”

Akpan:” wait, I thought you two were already separated” he said just coming into the class.

Me:” Joy explain to him ” I told joy who just smiled and walked away with Akpan. By the end of her discussion with Akpan, I could see Akpan smiling at me and giving me a thumb up. Charles also walked in, he looked like he had been crying, maybe Mrs Jagun flogged him. I took a look at him and felt pity for him, there was this thing telling me he was not doing what he was doing out of his own wish. I sat on my sit with Sandra by my side, her eyes were red but she wasn’t crying.

Me:”So you actually Dont love me but you love Joy?” She asked.

Me:”Am sure you have taken another recorder from your bag.”

====> For the first time, I went to seat on Akpan’s sit. I had begged his seat mate to please let me stay and she willingly agreed.

Akpan:” To what do I owe this visit from the virulent striker of our school?”

Me:” So you see I can play now abi?”

Akpan:” it was like you went to football academy before you came here, you even play more than Charles the most dreaded striker of our school.”

Me:” Yes about Charles, has he always been like this?” I asked him.

Akpan:”Like how?”

Me:”I mean, the way he implicate people and the rest.”

Akpan:” The Charles I know used to be a good smart guy, I was his good friend until that day he implicated Kemi, that was in jss 3.”

Me:” is there anything about this Kemi of a girl?”

Akpan:” Nothing only that she was daring like you are, but Charles also used to like her right from jss 1, he could not tell her since Kemi was a no nonsense girl, but he always told me as his friend.”

Me:” Akpan am confused here, then how did he implicate her”

Akpan:” With an audio recorder of course. ”

Me:” Cabbage head, i mean what was her offence?”

Akpan:” Hmmm, she never did anything.” He said while I looked at him with a more confused face but he wasn’t done.

Akpan:”Our Jss 3 1st term examination question paper for basic science was found in her bag”

Me:” But you said it was with an audio recorder?”

Akpan:”Yeah, it was found in her bag but she denied ever knowing anything about it, then this was where Charles came in, he brought a recorder which had the previous day discussion of himself and Kemi. According to the recorder, Charles had told her he saw the Basic science question paper being taken to the biology lab. And then Kemi had replied him by saying how she wished she would just get the question paper.”

Me:”I would have also said the same thing, she might probably be joking, that isn’t enough evidence ”

Akpan:”Don’t be stupid boy, she said it and then they also found the question paper in her bag, isn’t that still enough evidence? ” he asked while I nodded.

Me:”But what did the girl do to deserve being implicated?”

Akpan:” Hmmm, I am not sure, but according to what rumours brought to us, it was said that Sandra loves Charles but Charles love Kemi just like the way Sandra loves you and you love Joy. That was why Sandra tried to get rid of Kemi for her to have Charles, but …”

Me:”That isn’t the point, if Charles really loved Kemi, he wouldn’t implicate her. ”

Akpan:”maybe they had him tied down, maybe they have something against him.”

Me:”Something like what?” I asked him.

Akpan:”Something only Charles knows” he said as he stood up, the English teacher was already in class. I also stood up and joined in the greeting, but my mind wasn’t with them. ” Apparently they had him tied down” I thought to myself as I turned to Charles, I could only see his side, his eyes was still red, he was a shadow of himself and I felt pity for him, I felt my eyes also wet but I didn’t let it pour.

English Mistress:” Sorry guys let me answer this call” she said as she walked out.

Akpan:”Gabriel, always try to defend Joy, they might also want to implicate her” Akpan told me as we sat down.

Me:”Joy has a padlock bag so they can’t keep any paper in her bag.”

Akpan:”Idiot they might use another way” he said to me.

Me:”Then why is Sandra not dating Charles now?” I asked again.

Charles:” There was no time for them to date, we finished our Jss 3 Scheme of work on time and stayed at home till it was time for our waec and then after the waec we went back home to prepare for our graduation and after that we went back home until we resumed for sss 1″

Me:”Then why didn’t they date in sss 1?”

Akpan:”Oh my God, come how did you get 18 in that biology test? What class are you now?”

Me:”Sss 1 ”

Akpan:”Goat, she forgot Charles when she saw you.”

Me:”Okayyyy , now I get.” I told him smiling and adjusting my glasses.

Me:”So Sandra only date guys with eyes problem abi?” I asked while he turned to me.

Akpan: “Look at your desk, who do you see there?” He asked and I turned to face my sit.

Me:”Sandra of course ” I replied as I turned back to face him

Akpan:”Good, go and ask her” he said while I adjusted my glass again.

=====> I could not think straight, I had many things running in my mind. I had this urge to help Charles, I like the guy no matter what he has done to me. It wasn’t his fault, they left him with no option than to do it. I sighted him sitting on a log of wood as he laced his booth ready to come into the pitch, it was our training period. I jogged up to him in my nice sport outfit and also sat on the log of wood, although I was dressed for training, I haven’t removed my glasses, likewise Charles he still had his specks on.

Me:”Hy Charles”I said touching his shoulder, he shifted back in shock as he saw me, he probably had been thinking.

Charles:”Hugine ” he called out silently while I adjusted my glasses.
