Mrs Jagun:”Because that what I want and moreover its not mid term yet, this just a testing test” she said, this time a bit calm. Akpan sat down reluctantly, he was obviously angry but what can he do? I myself was angry but as the old people say ” He who has once be bitten by a snake will run away when he sees rope.” I Dont want to get myself in trouble again.


Mrs Jagun:” You can all leave now” she said after a while. Like we had been expecting her to say that, we packed our script and left to our class.


Akpan:”Mehnn, Sandra really try in this test o” he shouted the moment we got to the class while everyone bursted out in laughter.


Sandra:”Akpan please, just take your time else” she said while Akpan laughed out again but did not say any thing.



Joy:”Gabriel, I never knew you are this brilliant o ” she said as she stood in front of my desk.


Me:”See you o, are you not also brilliant?”


Joy:”At least I tried, am not like some that only knows how to keep recorder in their pocket but will end up with only two mark” she said with some part of her eyes focusing on Sandra. I simply smiled as I watch her walk back to her desk. ” This girl is really troublesome” I thought to myself.

====> I walked meekly to the proprietor office, this would be my first time of going there and I was really nervous. I knocked slightly before opening the door to go in. The office was well furnished and arranged, it was so cool and had a nice scent. The proprietor was standing at the back of his chair when I got in.


Proprietor: “Seat down Gabriel” he said as he also sat down.

Me:”Good morning sir”


Proprietor: “Yeah, good morning. Do you know why I sent for you?” He asked while I shaked my head the negative.

Proprietor: “OK, you know I Dont stay here all the time, I have other branches of this school all over the country so I am based in Abuja. I only come here once in a while to see how things are going on here. One of my visit here happen to coincident with the day you were about to be punished about the breaking of one of the school rules. What baffles me most happen to be the fact that you are even a new student. Now all I want is your side of the story.” He said as he placed his hand on the table. I looked at him and breathed out before finally explaining everything to him, leaving no stone unturned.



Proprietor: “So actually, you have something to do with the girl?” He asked while I nodded.

Proprietor: “OK, but who is this Sandra you claim you are being forced to be with?” He asked while I tried describing Sandra to him.



Proprietor: ” And you want me to believe that, my teachers are doing that?” He asked while I still nodded.


Proprietor: “OK, that’s okay. The problem is I will be leaving tomorrow, but I will promise you that by the time am back, I will look more into this” he said.


Me:”Thank you sir” I said as I stood up to go

Proprietor: “And one more thing boy ” he said while I stopped and turn back.



Proprietor: “Stop everything with Joy, it is also against the law of the school” he said while I nodded and adjusted my glasses, of course that is not possible. I even thought he was calling me to ask me not to wash the school toilet again. I walked back to the class with a happy mind, at least the proprietor is not part of the corrupted people in the school. I pray he comes back quick as I want him to get to the root of all this as soon as possible. I stopped as I got to the entrance of my class door , “What actually is Sandra’s Father doing for the school?” I thought, ” Is he the one building the School?” I asked myself again ” But the proprietor just told me he has other branches, certainly he is a rich man and can afford to build his school himself.” I thought on, ” In that case, the principal and some other teachers must be embezzling the man’s money.” I concluded.


Sandra:”Why are you standing there?” Her question brought me back to life, I looked up and saw Sandra standing in my front.

Me:”Its not your business” I told her.


Sandra:”Anyways, Mrs Jagun asked me to call you.” She said as she walked to the biology lab where Mrs Jagun was, I followed her behind.


Mrs Jagun:”Gabriel, Gabriel, Gabriel. Welcome back from suspension” she told me as I turned to close the door to the lab.


Me:”Thank you ma.” I said as I adjusted my glasses.

Mrs Jagun:”Its like the suspension has made you humble ” she said again smiling but I didn’t reply her.



Mrs Jagun:”Anyways that isn’t the point. What were you doing in the proprietor’s office? ” she asked with a serious face while I raised my eyes up to her but didn’t say anything.



Sandra:”Are you deaf?” Sandra added while I turned my chair to face her and still didn’t say anything.

Mrs Jagun:”Sandra, take it easy. Gabriel you have the chance to make things easy for yourself now, I ask again what were you doing in the proprietor’s office? ”


Me:”He called me so I went to answer his call” I replied smartly while Mrs Jagun smiled.


Mrs Jagun:”What did he tell you?” She asked again


Me:”And how is that suppose to be…” I was about talking when she brought her hand to slap me, all thanks to my glass, I was able to see her quick so I caught her hand in the air.


Me:”The only reason I respect you Ma is because you were employed here to be my teacher, if not that, I rest my case” I said as I dropped her hand gently on the desk, adjusted my glasses and went out. Her mouth remained wide open until I was out of her sight. Even Sandra was shocked.

I walked to my class smiling as I knew she won’t dare report me to the proprietor, or show him any audio recorder. For Christ sake, that will also implicate her. I was about sitting down on my chair when the bell for break rang, I stood up immediately and went in search for the cleaner, to my surprise, Joy followed me.



Me:”Where are you going to?”


Joy:”Am following you to wash the toilet” she replied smiling. I looked at her and held her hand.

Me:”What will you say when they see us together in the toilet?” I asked her


Joy:” that am helping you of course” she replied.

Me:”You know the kind of school you are in, they won’t believe that. Please Joy, just go” i told her while she reluctantly agreed and left.
I saw the cleaner in the food canteen, I told her about my punishment and she provided me with broom, bucket and detergent. I took the items and walked towards the toilet which was two blocks away from my class. I was just passing the window of my class when Charles stopped me, am sure he had been waiting there for me.



Charles:”Who do you think you are?” He started as he adjusted his glasses, with no doubt I knew there was an audio recorder in his pocket. I dropped the equipment and stared at him.


Charles:”You think you are the smartest, bravest or what? What exactly can you do?” He asked again smiling mischievously. I grabbed his shirt unexpectedly and raised him up resting his back on the wall, his legs wasn’t touching the ground.


Me:”I can destroy your body, your spirit, and if God wish, also your soul” I whispered to his ear so that only him could hear even the audio recorder could not record that. I then released him as I picked back my things to go wash the toilet. I took another look at him and fear was written all over his face.


Me:”I hope you recorded that?” I shouted as I walked away adjusting my glasses, he stood at the same spot not knowing what to do, he also adjusted his specks.
