Joy:”Gabriel, have you gotten any native name, I love calling people by their native names, I Dont like all this English stuff.” She said trying to start another discussion.

Me:”Of course I got one name which I won’t like to tell you, it is a personal name” I said smiling.

Joy:” Hmmm or its a funny name?”She asked.

Me:” OK to be sincere I got none, what of you?” I asked again

Joy:”You can call me Omolola.” She said while I smiled at the name, it sound nice, a typical Yoruba name “Omolola” hmm nice name.

Me:”That’s a pleasant name, Omolola you are in which class?”I asked jokingly while she blushed.

The closing bell finally brought an end to our discussion, it has been a sweet first day at school. I did not want to leave omolola again but I had to go home, I stood up and packed my thing ready to leave, she also packed her things and backed her bag.

Joy:” So sir Gabriel, I will be leaving now .” she said while I just nodded, she did not go rather she still stood there looking at me.

Me:” What is it?” I asked confused, while she shaked her head and made to go but I drew her back.

Me:” Tell me what is wrong?” I asked again.

Joy:” Won’t you at least escort me to the gate, you want me to go alone abi, that’s not fair.” She said faking anger.

Me:”You should have said so now” I said as I backed my bag and walked out with her. Some students still watched with the kind of expression that says ” This new boy”

Me:”Joy, won’t your boyfriend be jealous if he he sees me around with you like this?” I asked, to her I might be joking but deep down In me, I was serious.

Joy: “Yeah he will be,but thank God he is not in school today, so that makes it easy for me to walk with you” she said and my heart sank into my blood stream. I could feel I was jealous, I didn’t know why but I knew I was. I looked at her, she was smiling revealing her open teeth, I tried to smile but I found myself frowning, so she even has someone she is dating.

Me:”Okay, I think I will go now” I said and turned to go away.

Joy:”What’s wrong?” She asked with a worried look.

Me:”Nothing am fine” I said and went away while she continue to stare till I was out of sight.

My first day at school was meant to be sweet but it turned out sore. I Dont know why I should be jealous but I was, am not dating her or so, maybe it just natural, although I knew it was not. My sister wasn’t helping matters as she kept pestering me to tell her about my classmates. On a norm I should have told her but I was not happy at that moment so I did not. I wasn’t happy, I did not even eat, my mom thought it was because of the changing of school. I picked up my phone as I la!d on the bed, I had 15 missed calls from my former classmates, I didn’t bother to call back, I was not in a good mood yet.

My mom later came in to inquire about my mood swing.

Mom:” Gab I know you would miss your old school but its just money problem….”

Me:” Mom, that’s not it” I interrupted her

Mom:” Then why are you carrying a long face since you came from school?”.

Me:” Hmm Mom, what will make a guy angry if a girl tells him she got a boyfriend?” I asked my mom, she was the only one I always confide in.

Mom:” Maybe the guy is in love with the girl” she replied absentmindedly.

Mom:” Wait, Gabriel, Dont tell me a girl made you like this on your first day in school.” She said bursting out in laughter.

Me:”me?? Mom I got no time for…..”

Mom:” You won’t lie to me will you?” She interrupted me while I breathed out and told her about Joy.

Mom:” Gab, that is love at first sight, its just mere lust, Dont work yourself over that, you will see another girl.” She said while I nodded but my heart did not agree with the nodding, I knew it was not lust, I had never loved a girl before and moreover Joy is not the most beautiful girl have seen so why should I be lusting over her? But I also pray its not love, she already got a boyfriend so I Dont want to have a thing to do with her again. By tomorrow I will stop any kind of foolish play with her. I was about lying down when my phone rang , it was from an unknown number, I know it would be from one of my former mates but I still picked it. To my surprise it was someone I did not know, but it was a female voice.

Me:” Yeah this is Gabriel” I said

Caller:” So you don’t know who is speaking, you can’t even get the voice?” The caller said but I had no idea who it was.

Me:” Sorry please I Dont know” I replied weakly.

Caller:” Hmm, OK its me Joy” The caller said while I stared at the phone, how on earth did she get my number?
