DESPERATE PLIGHT (Travails Of a hero ) - Season 2 - Episode 2

GENERAL HOSPITAL
(OUTSIDE)
:
Mr Davidson stared at the gun pointed to his
head through the corner of his eyes. He
regreted ever forcing Thelma to become a
soldier just because of Lucy. “S--t! I should
have just killed that little rat myself,” he
thought as he glared at Richard and Tega in
anger, then slowly and gently dropped the hand
he held the gun while Thelma also dropped
hers.

“I’m sorry dad!” Thelma apologised as she
looked at the father directly in the eyes.

The father smiled, a smile that barely reached
his eyes. “Apology accepted,” he said, paved
way in the crowd and walked to his car.
The men that had brought Richard and Tega
out ran to him just as he was about entering
his car. “Sir, what about them, what should we
do?” one of them asked.

“Go home and wait for my call, this is not yet
over,” he said with a tone of finality and
entered his car, then ignited the engine and
drove off not minding the questioning look on
the faces of the people who had gathered and
now began to disperse.

As soon as Mr Davidson’s car was out of
sight, the journalists and camera men began
trooping. Some on foot while some in cars.
Richard glanced at Tega and then to Thelma,
wondering who had informed them of what was
going on. So just as Thelma turned and ran to
her car which was still steaming, Richard and
Tega also turned and ran back inside the
hospital. They knew trouble won’t be far behind
if they givs them the car to question them. The
passerbys too also left the hospital premises
thus leaving the journalists and camera men
who had no other choice than to go back too…

RICHARD’S RESIDENCE
:
Richard arrived home with his wife to meet the
children in the sitting room who quickly stood
up from the couch to hug their mother, totally
ignoring the father who just stood, unable to
utter a word.

“Mum!” Ella and Emmy called in unison as the
mother circled them in her arms. “Where have
you been, we missed you,” Ella added.

“Don’t worry my jewels, your mother is
absolutely…” Jane started to say but paused as
her eyes caught the blood stained spot and
gun. Everything else in the sitting room was
well arranged and clean except the spot. “You
two didn’t…”

“Clean the blood,” The children cut her short
while she released them in astonishment.
“But why?”

“It’s dad’s mess, he will clean it up himself,”
Ella replied, held the brother’s hand and
walked out of the sitting room.

Richard turned to face Jane with the look of,
‘You turned my children against me.’ While
Jane stared back at him with the look of, ‘It’s
all your fault,’ then also walked out of the
sitting room leaving Richard to his fate…
:
NIGERIA POLICE STATION
(MIKE’S CELL)
:
Raymond stood staring at Mike who sat on the
floor with his back rested on the wall, looking
nothing less than a mad man with his blood
stained and torn cloths.

“I still can’t believe you did all this Mike, what
has come over you?” Raymond asked with his
hands in his trouser pockets.

“I’m sorry Raymond, I have learnt my lessons,”
Mike apologised looking sober.

Raymond squatted beside him and placed a
hand on his right shoulder which was like a
skeleton because the flesh that was on it could
be said to have melted(lol). “It’s all right Mike,
I will try talking to the D.P.O to see if you’ll be
granted bail,” he said soothingly.

“Thank you so much Raymond, thank you,”
Mike appreciated.

“Thelma almost killed her father today because
of Richard,” Raymond said bitterly and looked
down.

“Why? How is she related to Richard?” Mike
asked in surprise.

“Maybe the had something while in the camp,
who knows,” Raymond sighed.

“Don’t conclude yet, I suggest you ask her
yourself,” Mike said.

Raymond smiled a bit, “You are still the good
Mike I used to know,” he said and stood up.

“I have to go now but I promise to come back
here tomorrow,” he added.

“Okay, thank you,” Mike also smiled painfully
and nodded. “Extend my greetings to your
dad.”

“I will Mike, take care,” Raymond said, then
turned and walked out of the cell.

Mike stared after him and smiled wickedly,
“Jane! Just pray I remain in this cell coz if am
opportuned to get out, you will suffer the same
fate with me,” he thought to himself
wordlessly.

While Raymond walked to where he parked his
car outside, he kept thinking of why Thelma
could possibly try to kill her father because of
Richard. “It better be for something good coz
if its not, I will strangle her with my bare
hands,” he thought as he opened his car and
entered, then turned on the ignition and drove
off in anger…
