WAR CAMP
(TRAINING FIELD)
:
Lucy peered deeply into Richards eyes. She knew he was surprised at what she had asked him to do but the look on his face showed that he had something else in mind. “What clouds your face?” she asked as she shifted so her shoulder could touch his.

“Nothing,” Richard replied sharply.

“Tell me about the nothing, then.”

“Why do you want Thelma dead?”
he asked.

“Oh that!” Lucy smiled. “Don’t worry, just do as I say coz you will soon find out why,” she said and stood up.

“And where do you think you are going to when my question hasn’t been answered?” Richard blurted out as he glared at her in fury.

“I don’t know what’s making you stare at me in that manner but whatever it is, just forget about it and think of what I’ve asked you to do,” Lucy concluded and walked out on him.

“Oh Richard, you’re just a big fool,” Richard said to himself as he hit his fist on the chaise longue he sat on…

MR DAVIDSON’S RESIDENCE
:

Mr Davidson, Thelma’s father, sat on settee in his garden. He wore a loose fitting trouser and long white kaftan which made him look like an Arabian. On his eyes was a pair of reading glasses which he kept adjusting from time to time as if it would fall off his eyes. He was reading newspaper as usual.

Just then, Bayo, his house keeper, walked into the garden with a small tray which contained two tall glasses of chilled orange juice. He was followed by Mrs Davidson who wore a loose fitting blouse and three-quarter shorts.

“Thank you!” Mr Davidson said as Bayo dropped the tray of drinks on a small white round table infront of him.

Bayo simply nodded, bowed low infront of him, then turned and walked away.

Mrs Davidson sat beside her husband, then reached out to the table and picked up a glass of juice which she sipped from and dropped it back in the tray. “Honey,” She called out to her husband who still had his eyes glued to the newspaper as if his life depended on it.

“Yes baby,” the husband answered as he closed the newspaper and faced her.

“I’m worried about Thelma,” the wife said with her face full of worry.

“Why?” the husband asked. “You women worry too much over nothing important.”

“So are you trying to say that my daughter’s life isn’t important?”
the wife asked with a slightly raised voice.

“Don’t misunderstand me, you know what I mean, once that Lucy of a girl is dead, Thelma will resign from the army,” he said.

“Why do you risk your only daughter’s life and keep thinking of revenge?” the wife asked, visibly getting annoyed.

Mr Davidson laughed a bit and stood up. Then he picked up his glass of juice.

“Where are you going to now?. You haven’t answered my question,” the wife inquired, trying very hard to remain calm.

“To my room, since you wouldn’t allow me rest my poor head,”
the husband said and left the garden.

Mrs Davidson stared after her husband, wondering if a nut had come loose on his head. “This man thinks he can just walk out on me, the war is scheduled for tomorrow and yet he dosen’t look worried or bothered when my only child is out there risking her life. No! He must do something urgently,” She said loudly and stood up, almost knocking the glass of juice over, then walked angrily towards the main house…

RICHARD’S RESIDENCE
TIME CHECKED- 10:55am
:

Jane opened the door to her house and walked in looking very pale and drawn. She had gone to Richard’s parent house to inform them of her decision but they both had kicked strongly against it and ever since her children saw the file, they had been keeping mute with her and had even refused to eat breakfast before leaving for school that morning.

“Oh God!” she exclaimed as she sat on the couch and threw her bag beside her, then placed her head in her palm in despair.

Then suddenly there was a knock on the door which made her startle a bit. “Who could that be?” she asked herself quietly. Then the knock sounded again, louder this time.
“Who is that please?” she asked out loud as she stood up and walked to the door.

“It’s Mike,” the person replied from outside.

“Mike!” Jane repeated. “Who’s Mike?” She thought as she opened the door and to her greatest dismay saw who she never expected.

“Hello!” Mike greeted, smiling gleefully.

“What!” Jane exclaimed. “I mean what are you doing here?” She asked while still holding the door handle…
