DESPERATE PLIGHT (Travails Of a hero ) - Season 1 - Episode 5

☆☆☆☆
:

Jane’s eyes twinkled and blinked severally as they were filled with unshed tears while she sat in the room she shared with her husband and kept staring at his picture. She had taken three days off work just to give her enough time to think about her husband. She had lost her appetite and had emaciated within two days. She kept having bad feelings that she was going to loose her husband but if not to death, then to something more worse than death, something that would leave her life shattered for years, something that would pierce deep into her skin like a two edged sword.

Suddenly everything seemed useless to her as her face instantly shadowed and her tears began to flow in torrents and drip into her mouth coupled with her nose which had already started leaking down her mouth too.

Jane made furtile efforts to control herself but the more she thought of loosing her husband made her cry the more. “Oh God, please protect my husband,” She prayed out aloud. It wasn’t as if her husband never fought a battle but for crying out loud, this was a war between two countries. She thought of the Golf war, how Iraq invaded cowet which was tagged “Operation desert storm.” “Richard will not die and I trust him with my last blood that he will never cheat on me,” She thought bitterly in despair, then bent and cleaned her face with the hem of her wrapper…

MR & MRS SMITH’S HOUSE
:

Mr Smith sat on the couch in his sitting room trying very hard to console his wife who was crying hopelessly. “Why are you behaving as if Richard is gone forever?” he asked as he shook her gently.

The wife sniffed and shook her head, “War Smith, War!” She muttered. “Do you know the meaning of war between two countries. I warned you earlier not to allow my son join the army but you refused, now tell me who will bury me? Ehn my only son, my only Richard has been sent out to go and die,” she lamented.

Mr Smith stared at her pitifully, “Women and their problem,” he thought to himself. “It’s alright, all we have to do is pray for him,” he said out loud.

On hearing the word “Pray” the wife quickly shot him a deadly look, a look that if looks could kill could kill her husband at the moment. “Do you think God answers prayers of bad people?” She asked defiantly.

The husband was taken aback, “What do you mean by that?” he asked and removed his hands from her shoulders as he stared at her slightly wrinkled face.

“If you are not a bad man, why didn’t you stop your son from joining the army, take a look at how he abandons his wife and children.
My poor daughter inlaw has been suffering from loneliness for years and now you talk about prayer,”
She fired furiously.

“This is really getting out of hand,” the husband thought and tried touching her but she rebuffed him and stood up.

“Don’t you dare touch me, bad man,” the wife shouted at him and walked out of the sitting room.

“Hei! Smith, if you’re not careful, this woman will pound you one day,” his inner mind said to him…

WAR CAMP
(OUTSIDE)
:

Thelma sat on the chaise longue at the far right end of the camp beside the training field with folded arms, thinking about her family and Raymond. She wished she could turn back the hands of time.

She was so deep in thought that she didn’t notice when Richard walked up to where she sat and sat at the other end if the chaise longue in in his training suite. He had been training in the field and decided to relax for a while with a bottle of lucozade boost.

“No!” Jane suddenly schoo screamed thus startling Richard. “I will quit this career if I ever survive this war,” She said out loud and threw her hands in despair.

Richard shifted closer to her and whispered, “Are you okay?”

Thelma quickly turned round and was shocked to see Richard, “Richy!” She screamed out loud.

“Thelma!” Richard equally called out in shock too. “When did you join the Army?” he asked as he fixed his gaze on her. Thelma was his secondary school crush and they had lost contact when she travelled out of the country to study abroad.

“It’s a long story dear,” Thelma sighed deeply. “But I’m we finally get to meet each other again,” she smiled happily.

“Same here, I’ve missed you so much,” Richard said with a smile too.

“Yea me too, so how’s your family?” Thelma questioned

“Family?” Richard repeated. “My parents you mean, they are fine, atleast both are still alive,” he said.

“Oh! That’s good but I mean your wife and children?” Thelma grinned widely.
“Wife, children?” Richard chuckled and without a second thought added, “I’ve got none,” he replied, looking like one who had suddenly gone nuts…
