DESPERATE PLIGHT (Travails Of a hero ) - Season 1 - Episode 3

RICHARD’S HOUSE
:
After about an hour, Richard opened his eyes and gently disengaged from his wife. Then shifted close to the edge of the bed and picked up his wristwatch from the side stool and checked the time which read 12:45pm.

“Oh! The children will be back by 2:00pm, I just need to prepare lunch,” he said quietly to himself. Kneeling on the bed, he dropped back the wristwatch, then yawned and stretched himself.

Richard turned to his wife, her face glowed with beauty even though she was sleeping, he kissed her lightly on the cheek, then got out of bed, picked up his from the other side of the bed and left for the kitchen to prepare lunch before the children gets back from school…

RAYMOND’S HOUSE
:
Thelma stood infront of Raymond’s door, looking scared and worried. She had called Raymond earlier in the day but he wasn’t picking up her call and now she had been knocking for almost twenty minutes, yet no reply was forthcoming.

“What could be wrong with him,” she thought as she knocked again, harder this time. “Raymond please open up, I know you’re in coz the key isn’t where it used to be,” She pleaded with misted eyes but there was no reply, so she decided to go and return later but as she wiped away a tear from her eyes and turned to leave, the door bolt clicked and the door was opened.

“Raymond!” Thelma screamed in delight as she tried hugging him but was rejected which made her step back surprisingly. “Raymond it’s me, Thelma,” She said throwing her hands in despair.

Raymond released the door handle and arranged his singlet. “Yes Thelma, it’s you and so what?” he asked angrily.
Thelma looked shocked to the bones, “Ray, why treating me this way? What have I done wrong?” she asked as her tears began to fall again.

Raymond was moved by her tears but he had to control himself. “Ever since we started seeing each other, you’ve been travelling, travelling, travelling,” he accussed. “Is this how we’re gonna live when we finally get married?” he asked.

“Raymond please, it isn’t my fault,”

Thelma pleaded. “Besides who told you I’ll be travelling again soon?” she asked foolishly.

Raymond chuckled, “Do I look like a fool to you? For crying out loud Thelma, it’s all over the social media.”

“Is that the reason why you’ve decided to treat me this way?” Thelma asked again with an hurtful expression.

“How else do you expect me to behave?
That my supposed wife to be keeps travelling almost every month, I can’t take it anymore Thelma, I’m hurting inside,” Raymond concluded.

Thelma sighed deeply and wiped her tears again, “Fine then, I’ll leave but remember I’ve got less than a week to stay here, when you start thinking more mature like a man, you visit or give me a call,” she concluded and with that, she walked out on him, headed to her car where she’d parked it and opened it, then she entered and drove out his compound with her heart burning in rage.

“How could Raymond treat me this way, is it my fault that I was forced to join the army by my father?” Thelma thought as she drove but unfortunately ran into an on coming vehicle. The last thing that was heard was her scream as everything blacked out instantly…

RICHARD’S HOUSE
TIME CHECKED- 4:45PM
:
Richard sat on the couch in hs sitting room with his wife and children watching television. While his son sat on his laps, his wife and daughter leaned on his right and left shoulder respectively.

“Dad look, I love that dress, it’s so beautiful,” Ella exclaimed happily as she stood up and removed her phone from her shorts pocket to snap but unfortunately, another scene was shown. “Oh no!” she said angrily as she threw the phone on another couch and sat back beside her father.

“Good for you,” Emmy laughed out loud and turned to the father, “Daddy can we please watch some cartoons?” he requested.

“No!” the mother and sister said in unison.

Emmy frowned, “Mum! You’re now supporting Ella, it isn’t fair, dad say something,” he pleaded and shook his father gently who appeared to be absent minded.

Richard startled as he was brought out of reverie by his son who kept shaking him. “Son!” he called. “What were you saying?” he asked.

Ella was surprised, “Dad, don’t tell me you were absent minded, anyways we will like to know what you were thinking about,” Ella inquired, sat erect and folded her arms.

Richard swallowed hard while the wife just sat erect too and stared into the space without saying a word.

“Dad we’re still waiting,” Emmy said, sounding impatient.

“I just have to tell them somehow,” the father thought wordlessly. Then he scratched his head and cleared his throat, “I will be travelling again in five days,” he said bitterly.

“What!” Ella exclaimed. “Why do you want to travel twice in one month, you’ve always travelled once,” She questioned sadly…
