Diline sat on her bed and wiped her tears. She looked at her life for the past four years and it had no meaning to Ber, her only friend and companion also got missing along the way. She wiped the endless flow of tears from her face. It was her mother’s death anniversary and she was so ashamed she had nothing to give and no way to visit her burial site. She broke into fresh tears when she thought of getting a job. It had been a month since Dave took her credentials, she had not heard from him and other companies did not employ her either. It was in this saddened condition that Drez met her when he arrived home.

“Diline, Diline where are you?”
She quickly wiped her tears and answered.

“I am in my room, I will join you now.”

She left for the sitting room and put up a fake smile.

“You are back, how was your day?”

Drez took one look at her face and frowned.

“Please stop pretending like all is well and tell me the truth. I can read it all from your face. Have you been crying? Is this what you do when I am not around?”

She shook her head as she struggled to contain the tears threatening to fall. She finally lost the fight and one after the other they fell. Drez sighed and pulled her to a seat, he offered her his handkerchief and sat beside her.

It’s okay sweetheart let it all out.”
He gently rocked her while she cried. After she finally regained her composure, she started,
“I am sorry I didn’t mean to be like this. It’s my mother’s death anniversary today and I just miss my parents so much.”
Drez aced a finger on her lips,
“Shhhhhh! It’s okay I understand how you feel. Don’t cry again okay?”
She nodded and spoke quietly.

“Thank you.”

She felt warm and he couldn’t let her go, he knew he should should release her but he didn’t want to. He closed his eyes and inhaled her scent. He longed to touch her hair and play with it. Drez realised what he was doing and quickly withdrew himself from her. He cleared his throat.

“I have good news for you.”
She turned to face him expectantly.

“What is that?”
He smiled.

“Dave asked me to inform you that you have been offered the job. It was one of Dave’s former clients who just came back like a couple of years ago and established his own company, so since he was looking for a business administrator, he looked at your credentials and said based on your degrees and trust in Dave, you will be given the job. And according to Dave he pays really well.”
Diline could not believe her ears.

“Are you trying to joke with me now?”
He smiled.

“No, I am not joking with you. Congratulations.”
She shrieked and hugged him fiercely.

“Thank you very much God bless you.”

Drez groaned as his heart thumped in his chest, he couldn’t decide if to hug her back or not.
Before he could decide she quickly withdrew herself obviously embarrassed.

“I am sorry, I got carried away.”

He tried to talk but his voice came out husky.
“It’s okay. You deserve to be happy.”

He knew there was a searing chemistry between them but he promised himself to avoid it. He was in love with her but he prayed she shouldn’t fall for him, he had nothing tangible to give her.

“He said you can start tomorrow so go rest and prepare for tomorrow.”
She smiled happily.

“Yes, I will. You should go and change, I will set the table for your dinner.”

He nodded and left for his bedroom before he lost control of his senses.

She watched him leave and smiled. Everything about him did things to her insides, she just couldn’t explain it, he was exactly her ideal man, the type she prayed for, someone like her father who is caring, loving and handsome too.
She hoped he felt the same way because she was in love with him.
