I said,furrowing my brows as I advanced some steps towards the door. “Mitch, don’t do anything stupid. I know what you’ve been up to and let me warn you, If you hurt a lock of Tola’s hair, I swear to God I will hunt you down. I won’t cover this up like the other time. I was naive then, that is why I didn’t call the cops on you. Just so you know ” I sternly warned with newly found energy, eyeing her as she took a deep drag of cigarette and exhaled out the smoke. I hissed and walked out.

“Thank God Tola is safe” I breathed as I settled into the driver’s seat, brought the engine to life and navigated my car out of Mitch’s silent estate.

“Isn’t this too much?” Tola asked me, examining the gifts I bought for her. In her hands were a big bouquet, a small cake, a perfume bottle and a Mary Kay powder.

“Nothing is too much for you princess.” I countered, adjusting my crisp stark white shirt. “I can’t accept these” her breathe escaped harshly from her throat.

“Why?” I asked, shoving her hair back from her face as I wiped sweat from her forehead. “Because, because it’s not just right Alex. Am not your girlfriend. We are just friends. You have even made me stop addressing you as my boss. This doesn’t feel right” She said, releasing a huge breathe.

“Princess, it doesn’t mean anything. Me getting you gifts just show that I appreciate you as a friend of mine. Simple” I explained, looking at her big doe almond shaped eyes.

She thought for a while before heaving a sigh.
“Thanks” she said.

“You are welcome Princess” I said, flashing her a wide grin.

“And what’s with this new name. Princess? My name is Adetola please”

“And what does the ‘Ade’ before Tola mean?” I asked with pent-up seriousness in my face. “It has to do with royalty” She replied, looking at me like I wasn’t making any sense. “Exactly. Since Ade has to do with royalty. You are a princess, I think I should even change it to a Queen” I said, without lifting my gaze away from her face. Her face was well caked with moderate powder, lips glistened with Unclad lipstick. She looked simple yet beautiful.

“Well, okay then” she surrendered.

“Happy birthday in advance”

She almost choked on air as she stared at me widely.

“My birthday is still a month away”

“It doesn’t matter. It is still in advance”
I said pointedly while she chuckled.

“And how did you even know my birthday is approaching” she rumbled at me.
