I watched her search her bag for her purse. She stashed it out from the bottom of her bag, unzipped it and counted some naira notes and beckoned on the attendant.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“What does it look like am doing?” She clicked her tongue.

“No. I am paying!” I firmly said and shoved her hand away.

“No. I am paying!” She replied sharply, sounding feral.

“Tola, don’t start please cause you very well know you can’t win. I am paying and that’s final!” I darkened my gaze and straightened my face such that I looked offended. She resigned and stood up, walking outside while I paid for our cups.

When I got outside, I saw her snapping at someone on the phone. She angrily cut the call and entered the car.

“Who was that?” I asked, once I entered the car too. “None of your business!” She snapped. “Okay, it was James, my ex. Don’t ask me any question again” She fiercely gave out and stared down at her ruby coloured manicured nails.

Her facial expression seemed serene; she wasn’t smiling but she wasn’t exactly sad.
She just appeared to me like someone trying to close up a wound but it was opened up again rather too soon. “I will stop by a boutique and get you some clothes for tomorrow” I said. She didn’t reply but continued playing idly with her fingers. “Am sorry, but if you don’t follow me, I’ll have to buy you a new set of undies myself and you wouldn’t want that” I said as I looked for a spot to park my car in front of a boutique.

She cursed under her breath and alighted when I parked. I grinned devilishly as I walked behind her to the boutique.

[B]“After three months of pestering Kate for a relationship, She agreed to be my girlfriend. That made me the happiest man on earth. Tola, I was very happy having Kate in my life. She was a very good lady. Charming, loyal, nice, appealing, easygoing, a good cook and what not. She was everything I dreamt of having in my woman.

She was my life, she gave me joy. I never knew Mitch was still interested in me. They were friends and lived in the same apartment somewhere close to Unilag campus.

Many times Mitch would try seducing me but I never fell. Kate didn’t know all these because I didn’t want to jeopardise their friendship. Mitch did everything she could to separate Kate from me but our love continued to wax stronger and stronger day by day. I warned Kate about Mitch. I didn’t tell her what Mitch had been up to but I remember telling her not to trust Mitch. But Kate didn’t heed to my advise. She kept telling Mitch everything about our relationship, our outings, dates, everything. Our love life was like an open book to Mitch. She knew everything.

This infuriated her the more and made her develop hatred for Kate. That was when I feared women. How could a so called friend develop hatred for another friend just because of a man?
I mean, they had been friends since secondary school, it was not a matter of 3 or 4 years Tola. They had been friends since their J.S.S days in secondary school.
