James got up from his knees and found his way out. But not without giving the man by the door a killing stare. “Good riddance” I spoke out loud.

He walked up to me and hugged me. He greeted my mom and wiped off the stale tears on my face, carefully leading me to a seat. My mom gave us some privacy by leaving. “Am sorry” he apologized. “Why you apologizing?” I asked. “For everything. I don’t know what just happened here that brought tears to your beautiful face but am sorry.

And am also sorry if you meant I insulted you indirectly by getting you a new phone. I just felt you needed one” “Its okay. And how did you find my house?” “When you left, I lost you so I started asking around , it was a young lady that directed me here when I told her I was looking for Adetola Williams” he explained. He looked at me with pity as though he knew I had just suffered from a break up. “Please don’t look at me like that. Its okay, moreover I was just angry because I felt you took me like a charity case” I said and looked up to meet his gaze.

There was something about those eyes that sent butterflies down my belly.

“I never meant the gesture that way.
C’mon, you? A charity case? No man in his right senses would take you as one” his smooth sweet voice hit me and I blushed some shades of red. I was almost reddened like a tomato.

There was something deliciously canal about the man whose chest I was now resting my head.

The position we were in was too close a position for a boss-staff relationship but I cared less. I just wanted his minty breathe to continue fanning my cheeks lightly. “So what’s your name” I asked as I listened warily to his heartbeat.

“Alex” he replied. “Thanks Alex.” I said and received the phone from him.

He smiled and held my hand. Looking into my face, he whispered “You are beautiful”
“Thank you” I said and looked away shyly. “Am sorry to ask you this but what happened to your brother and why did your mood change just like that earlier” I asked with curiosity evident in my voice.

“I used to have a twin brother” he began, I saw him trying to blink away the tears that gathered at the corner of his eyes. I saw him trying to be strong but death was one thing more powerful than strength.

He broke into a loud cry as he touched his chest and let his tears flow.

It was Friday night and I had just finished for the day. I bade my partner ‘goodbye’ and left hurriedly. I didn’t even want to know if she acknowledged my greeting or not.


All I wanted to know was that I still had a date with Alex. He had invited me over for dinner that morning and I honoured him. I really wanted us to have an ‘US’ moment. Just Alex and I.

The last time I had seen him was in the morning, he had winked at me seductively, making my Tips stand upright. If not that I was wearing a blue blazer over my blue shirt, it would have been obvious he turned me on so badly.

I flagged down a cab and described my destination to him. After forty minutes, I arrived at home and hugged my mom tightly.

“What is it now, don’t fall me down” my mom said jokingly.

“Mommy! He has invited me for dinner” I almost screamed the house down.

“Ah. He has told you to come and ‘je’ (eat) dinner?” “Yesss” I yelled happily like a child that had just finished learning A-Z successfully. “Okay o, ehn go and start getting ready now, its getting late o, I hope he will come and pick you up”

“Yes, he should be here any moment from now, that’s what we agreed on anyway” I said, dropping my bag on the chair. I scurried to my room and searched for a nice gown to wear, finding a nice red cocktail dress, I la!d it on my bed and went to shower. The shower was faster than I imagined. “Adetola. He is here o, hasten up so you don’t keep a fine man like this waiting” I heard my mom’s voice from the bathroom.
