“Kedu ebe i jere kemgbe ututu taa Odii?”{Where have you been since Morning today Odii?},Grandma asked me immediately i stepped into our house towards evening time!
“M no na nke Jane ha!”{I was in Jane’s house!},i replied..
“Jane ka ole?”{Which Jane?},she asked me..
I explained the Jane i meant to her..
“Ga gbu wa onwe gi.O Kwa i ma na iji ahu?”{Keep walking about! And you know you are not well?},she said,somehow not happy!
“Mmaa ejim ahu!”{Am well mama!},i said..
As i was about to enter my room,she told me that Amara was looking for me,to which i said ‘okay’.
But it didnt end there,grandma said Paapa’s wife is looking for me again that i should go and see her..I Told her not to bother,that i know why she is calling me.
But she insisted that i should go and see her that moment and know why she is calling me!

I was like:
“mmaa o kwa i mana ejighi m ahu?”{Mama you know am not well na?}..
“i ka ga ugha!”{You are a liar!},she said in her Native Okûkû tongue{Okùkú is my grandma’s village}..
“mmaa nga anwukwa o?”{i will die o mama?},i said..
“Ebe i garichara lakpulayo,o ri ka inwuga nwa m..Jema je za ya!”{Since you parambulated from wherever went thou and still came back,you wont die my child..So,go and answer her okay!},grandma calmly said..
“okay!”,i replied…
While leaving the house,i asked her where Blessing is,and she said Blessing went out with Ebere…Hmmmm,Ebere!!!

I reached Paapa’s house,knocked briefly and entered even before anyone could answer..This time around,the people around was Paapa’s wife and that girl..

“SEVEN HOURS AGO!”
Still in Jane’s house..
Jane really did her best in interviewing me,but not on the things that made her keep malice with me..It was on other things,about my stay in Aba and things like that..
Of course,as i expected,she laughed her head off as i narrated my uncle’s decoy,how i was crying when i first was left there and how i kept thinking about her..And then,even though i didnt want to say it,i still said it anyway,but in a more light-hearted way..I told her that:
“whenever i remembered her,that i felt happy,but i didnt want to be feeling happy..I wanted to be angry and to be crying so that i will come back to the village..”
Her laughing turned to a one of pity somehow,which was what i wanted somehow too..
On her own,Jane said she was totally dumbfounded,lost for word and said she rarely even ate when she learnt of what happened..She just summed it up by saying that she just felt totally bad..
She said at some point,she had decided that she will be going to a boarding school from this term{she was entering SS1 or so} cuz she said she just got tired of staying in the village…
I felt and understood her pain,I was the reason why she even started moving about much in the village…

So i asked her whether she will still be entering a boarding School?

She said no..

I was like:
“why?”..
“You are now here!”,she replied..

I didnt know what else to say,as i looked at her and became shy!
“a ma kwa m ma m ga ano nga next year o!”{I dont know if i will stay here till next year!},i replied..

I didnt make the statement like i knew,but rather,as a possibility,so that she can bear it in mind….

She looked at me somehow and told me that:
“ahu bele m onye ozo ga adi ka gi!”{I Have not seen another person that will be like you!}..
“aghota kwa m.”{I dont understand},i said..
“You dont really know how much i like you”,she said..

I smiled.
“i know!”,i replied her some seconds later..

And then added:
“m ka no ya!”{am still around}..
I understood that,even though i may not get the chance to be staying around with Jane all the time,but the mere thought of her knowing that am still around makes her happy..More like Jane just naturally liked me,the other things we do together are just the benefits of such likeness!
….
We have really talked for a while now,and my head was lying in Jane’s laps as we talked..I was about to tell Jane that i would like to tell her something when Ukamaka came back and saw us there together!
She was like:
“hmmmmm! Di na nwunye a!”{This husband and wife!}
I greeted her,and in reply she said:
“Odii,i wu nu ojemba..ahugi taa,agii ihu gi echi..O dikwa Mmaa..A ma m Jane agwala gi kpa ahu?”{Odii,you are waka waka na..If you are seen today,tomorrow you will vanish..Its not fair,hope Jane has told you that?},she concluded..
Before i could answer her,Jane was like:
“hafu Odii aunty..Odii wu a busy boy!”{Leave him joor aunty..He is a busy boy},she said..
We all started laughing as Ukamaka asked us whether we have eating?
We both chorused:
“Yes!”….
I spent the rest of the day with them,even their people came back before i decided to leave..While leaving,i asked Jane that i will be going to farm tomorrow with those people for Paapa’s wife,that will she follow me?
“Yes!”,she replied happily..And i heard her mum shout:
“Are you not going to school tomorrow Jane?”
“School is not yet serious mum!”,she replied.
I reached Paapa’s house within a few seconds after leaving our house immediately grandma said i should go and see Paapa’s wife..

I knocked on their door,and before someone could even respond,i have entered{Its not a bad manner for us then to knock and enter even before the people answer..We all believe in the saying that “Uyo wu uyo maagi-The house is ours”,despite the fact that we are relations}..

The people around were The woman herself and that girl,Issabela{but i preferred calling her Igbo name,Ogochukwu or Ogoo}..

She asked me how i was doing and all that,and i answered her nicely..She inquired to know whether her relations has told me anything?
I said Yes..
She now added that i will also help them in uprooting of Cassava..According to her,she said she knows how the upcoming weeks will be like,and especially,with many mouths to feed,she needed to fry as many garri as possible…

But,she pleaded with me to just help her relations…
Well,i dont know about your village dear reader,but in my village,Kindreds,and especially relations,are allocated farms close to each other in each kindreds farm places..Thats how i knew most of Paapa’s wife farms,cuz they were close to ours too…
……..
All through my stay in her house,that girl never looked at me..She didnt even talk to me,and to tell the truth,i never talked to her myself..But,i was hoping that by fixing my eyes constantly on her will make her angry and cause her say something,but i was misinformed..
I later took my leave,winking my eyez at her,and she just looked at me and shaked her head..I guess she must have been like:
“Are you okay at all? “…

I went back to our house to meet Amara and Angela..They came while i was away in Paapa’s house..With the way they were dressed and relaxed,i didnt think they planned to go back again that night..They wanted to sleep in our house that night…

More especially,they had another news for me too…

After we ate for that night and gisted together,time to sleep arrived..None of them wanted to sleep alone,and so Amara offered a solution..She told me to bring my foam to the Parlour,while she brings the other foam from the room she was previously sleeping in…Hmmmm! They had luck shaa..They were lucky my Aunty’s them has gone anyway ..

Amara la!d in between Angela and i..She didnt want stories! And then just like i had been expecting,even with all her cover up smiles and chatty talks,she asked me what i knew she must ask me..
“kee ebe i gara since Odii?”{Where have you been since Odii?},she asked..
“m gara hu ndi enyi m!”{I went to see my friends!},i replied..
“O kwa i mana i naghi emetere onwe gi ebere?”{Hope you know that you dont pity yourself?},she added..
“kpa ole?”{How?},i asked..
“I choro ka m chetara gi na ikpahu ahu Odii?{Do you want me to remind you that you are not well Odii?},she said,being very concerned..
“e ji m ahu ugbu a”{am okay now},i replied..
“hmmmm!”,she did…And Angela was like:
“Odii i choro i mewa Amara obi?”{Odii,do you want to hurt Amara’s heart?},she said..
“olo o!”{No o!},i replied,and then went too close to Amara,and hugged her tightly,which am sure Angela must have felt…
………
Few seconds later,Amara told me that Angela has decided to stay with them till Christmas period since she is alone in their house and has not yet entered school!

Immediately she said this,Angela’s promise came ringing in my head! Her plans are going perfectly well i said in my heart…
Then Amara continues:
“so,we will be going to her place to get some of the things she will be needing!”..
Angela added in Amara’s presence:
“hope you like the idea Odii?”
“No!”,i said,and i really meant it..

They both laughed softly,and i heard Amara say:
“hafu ya ri,o wu kpa oshi eme..o wu ihe o mekwara m!”{Leave him jare,thats how he normally does..Thats exactly how he did me!},making light of my answer..
I was like:
“Me? Its a lie o..Ask aunty Nkiru,she will tell you everything”,i said,referring to Angela!
Amara laughed softly,reminding me that Aunty Nkiru is in far away Lagos!
Then she asked me to follow them to town,to Angela’s place; to which i declined,telling them about Paapa’s wife aid am giving…..
……….
The next day,they both left in the early hours of the morning even without eating…
Around 8a.m,i rode off with my bicycle to go get Jane from their house,but i saw her on the road instead,and she was so excited as i carried her and rode back home from whence we will be going for the farming..
By 8:30a.m,we were all ready,set and about to journey on the way!!.
