Must Read: I Have Done Some Great Bad Things - Season 1 - Episode 54

The real motive behind our
determination was the financial benefit that will
follow should we capture or kill one…It was in
high demand,and a rare breed for that
matter..Also another motive was the superiority
status it will place on us….We couldnt pass this
one…Although we know of the Heavy lashes
and beatings from our guardians it will
attract,we still went ahead to execute the
plan…..

As saturday reached,we all came to the pre-
determined location,from whence we will
embark on the Journey…I came with my
Matchete,and Catapult,with concretes in my
small hung bag..Others came with their
matchete too,and a sizeable stick…..We
followed Umuesu(a kindred to my own),entered
via Uhu(we have a farm there),and started the
journey to OkpeOkwe(a farming site and
bush,very far from our kindred)…We were very
sure we will find a wolf there..They were alwaz
there,or do come around there,destroying
things and leaving their footprints
behind…When we reached that Location,we
started walking sneakingly.to avoid chasing any
wolf arount,out….I could howl perfectly like a
wolf,and some When we must reached a good
and secure position,we settled down and i
howled many a times…While sitting there and
telling stories,we saw Uttu(a wild fruit),and so
we all went to Pick as many as we could
eat..While picking the fruit,i noticed a Hawk
that had settled on a Tree around there..I
smiled….I wasnt perfect in shooting a
catapult,but i was too good,thanks to my
personal training sessions…I brought out two
concrete stones,put one on the Catapult while
holding the other one with my mouth…By this
time,my friends were now watching me telling
me to give them let them shoot it ,that i will
miss it and all that..I kept them to shut up b4
they will chase the “igankwo”(Hawk) away,while
i set my target…After drawing hard and
powerfully,i let out the first shot which hit the
Hawk at its leg and as it made to fly away with
its injured leg,i gave it two shots
sucessively,which hit it probably in its
wings,causing it to Miss a turn and hit a tree
and Fall down…Of course our eyez followed it as
it fell,and as if a whistle was blown,the four of
us raced to go take it where we percieved it
must have fallen…As we were rushing to the
place,We saw a Wolf who was already trying to
run away with the bird…Jesus
Christ!

After Killing the wolf,the problem was now how
to carry it home..None of us came with any
bicycle,cuz it will attract undue attention and
questioning as to Where we were going with
it…I reasoned that we should go cut some
sticks with shrubby-ropes,so that we could tie
the Wolf in between the Sticks and carry the
stick at its end,both sides…It was a good idea
and so,they acknowledged it…Both Eunan and
Chibuike waited behind while i and Collins went
to get the desired Sticks and shrubby-
ropes..We got it,but whilst returning,we heard a
distant howl of a Wolf…Collins was like we
should also try and Do something to see if we
can kill the Wolf too…But we listened again,and
this time,the Howl wasnt that of a single wolf…it
was many,a Pack i guess…We hurriedly
returned to Where Eunan and Chibuike
were,hurriedly tied and put the sticks together
as we wanted them,and Hurriedly left that
place immediately…As we were leaving,we now
told them(Eunan and Chibuike) why we are
leaving in a hurry…We didnt even need to tell
them,i suppose they heard it too….

The Journey home was a hell of a long
one,about 45mins or so…As we chatted on our
way home,we recounted the episode that just
happened in the bush,and how we killed the
wolf..I even taunted Chibuike that the wolf
would have torn him apart had it not been for
Eunan’s timely hit,and everybody laughed as
we walked on..The jokes continued.At some
point,I now asked Collins who was going to buy
the Wolf…He said there is a buyer already
waiting for us…Since it was Collins that said
this,i believed it..Collins wont do something that
is not profitable and Worthwhile…And he is
older than the three of us,so he knows
better,and he acted as our Leader……

We had a motive for going for that Wolf hunt
that day,but as we carried the wolf home,we
realised that we needed to keep the whole wolf
Thing as a Secret…Already,while we trekked
home,some villagers saw us with the wolf,but
they were not from my kindred…
We needed a place to keep the Wolf till it is
sold,cuz we have now reached Uhu…We
followed a shortcut that will lead us straight to
the Backyard of Collins’ house…it was a good
Choice,cuz Collins was only living with his
grandma alone….. We reached there and
sneaked in…But it was of no use sneaking
in,noone was at home…Collins told us to
wait,and he went out…After about 5mins,he
came back with one man like that…After
examining the Wolf,the man nodded in
excitement or so i thought,and hailed us,to
which we thanked him…He dipped his hands
into his Pocket,brought out wads of 50naira
notes and gave to Collins and told us to deliver
the Wolf to his house…

I got around 600naira or so,as i left for
home…That was the first time i actually worked
to earn money,and i was really really happy
about it…I was in this happy mode when i
entered our House,and Lo and behold,my Uncle
has fulfilled his promise,he just bought me a
Chasis Chopper(bicycle).
