Story: The Changed - Season 1 Episode 2

“So this is what you’ve been doing in church! As if the adultery isn’t enough you brought it to my house!” He walked into his room smiling mischievously to himself.

Angela knew he’s apt to do things without thinking twice she she begged the pastor to leave but he refused, insisting on talking some sense into John’s head.

John rushed out of the room holding a cutlass and he gave the pastor a hot chase. The pastor ran for his dear life, wishing he had listened to Angela the first time. John chased for a few seconds before coming back to the house. He met Angela kneeling down and in tears.

“Please, if i have sinned let me know so i can make atonement, why are you treating me like this?” She said amidst tears.

John proceeded to put the cutlass aside and continue with his wicked plans. He stared hard at his wife, no, his ex-wife, because as far as he’s concerned, the marriage was over a month after their wedding. He walked close to her picked her up and gave her this reassuring look that all is well.

“Stop crying love, I’m sorry for my past”

Angela was shocked! She knew someone or something is lying. Could it be her mind or John? Or maybe it was her ears. As the question runs through her mind, she found herself following John to their bedroom.

“John” she called softly but there was no answer as John was drunk in his own thoughts and was unaware his wife was calling out to him. He took her into the bedroom.

Mr Samuel was down casted by the time he got home yet like former times, it was well hidden under that ever smiling face. He even joked with his gatekeeper and the house cook before retiring to the small bar inside the living room. He collected a glass and went to the fridge to get cold water instead. As he gulped the glass of water he tried his best not to smile but he couldn’t. The only reason he hasn’t disowned the boy is because he made a promise to his mother before she died. He recalled the unfortunate incident……..
On That fateful day, Mrs Samuel was returning from the shopping she went for her one and only son when she had an accident. Prior to that day, Samuel had complained of her over pampering the boy citing that the boy would end up being spoilt. She died at the hospital where she was rushed to. Her car was brushed by a raging tanker whose brakes stopped working thereby killing the 5 people including the driver and his assistant.

4pm, same day……

Angela decided to go home against pleas from her father in-law to at least spend the night. Earlier on, Mr Samuel had called his son to give him a verbal discipline but none of his calls were returned. With Angela insisting on going home, he had no option than to drive her home himself.

When they got there, John was at home, getting drunk. He showed no sign of remorse or joy or any kind of feeling. He just felt indifferent.

Mr Samuel called Angela aside and whispered into her ears “you can see he’s drunk. Its unsafe to stay here, please let’s go home. Tomorrow you can come back”

She had no choice than to agree. Once drunk, John becomes a tiger, tearing, biting and kicking. Previously, on one such occasion, he had almost drowned her in the bath tub had he not slipped thereby giving her a chance to run away. Today could be worse, considering what happened yesterday.
John needed peace. Peace, peace, peace, is all i need. Is that too much to ask? He asked himself. He has been drinking since dawn thinking his wife is gone for good only to see her reappear with his dad. He wanted the man dead but he wasn’t sure of his will. So far the man has made him live on a monthly pay, that’s why he is yet to buy a new car.

He has to act fast. He slept on the sofa.
Later that night………

Angela was sitting on the sofa in the biggest parlor reading one of the numerous magazines packed in a section of the Mr Samuel’s abode. She was wearing a gown which she had bought on her way home. Her father in law is the best anyone could wish for and she feels lucky to have him. 9pm and he’s already sleeping, too disciplined she thought to herself. She suddenly felt the need to use the toilet. She got up and walked to the room designated to her. Its not her first time using this room but somehow it seemed new. She felt she wasn’t alone. She looked around yet saw no one but she could still feel eyes on her. She walked into the toilet. She sat raised her gown and sat on the water closet. She urinated, got up, washed her hand and was about leaving when she heard water flowing in the bathroom which was just next door.
“Hello” she said as she tiptoed towards it “dad is that you?”
She opened the bathroom door and saw the shower slightly on. She made a move to switch it off but something else caught her attention. The tissue is slightly displaced from where she kept it before she went for dinner. Someone came here! She switched off the shower, place the tissue paper in it’s rightful place, and shut the bathroom door. Then she walked back to the sitting room.
Mr Samuel sat on the couch in his master bedroom. He tried to read his bible but the words had become too complicated for him to comprehend. He dropped it, rapped a quick prayer and retired to his bed. Still he couldn’t find the need to sleep. He rolled from side to side continuously for about an hour before he managed to sleep only to jerk back up. Apparently he had had a bad dream and he instantly knew that something is not right. He got put, wore his flip-flops and wanted to go to the sitting room but he restrained himself. He got back on his bed, and slept off, still carrying that worried look that had been absent from his face for a long time.

John got up, picked up his car keys and got out of the house. He want explanations and he must get it.
Why wouldn’t Dad leave me alone? It’s my life for crying out loud! The old fool doesn’t seem to get it, his life is in My hands. A call and he’s gone, just a call. With so many thoughts running in his head and still drunk, John set off for his dad’s place. Only if he knew what awaits him………
