She never dared look her father in the eye after what she had seen the other day so she kept pacing her eyes along the floor asif searching for something lost.

“philomena!, are you deaf? Why are you standing there?! Come outside let me tell you what I have to say”

She shyly stepped out of the door post into the corridor, her toes twitching wondering why he had suddenly summoned her and what he had to say hoping it was not about that day!

That day she had come home innocently from school, with a roaring stomach hoping to find any sort of food at home, she stepped into the house and was surprised to see the door ajar, she passed it and

She was confused about what she was hearing she walked slowly towards the sound, her eyes widened at the thought of what could be going on in the children’s room, she never expected what she saw!

She had pulled the brown curtain slightly to the side and barely poked her face through when she saw it!

“ooooahhhh yeaaa, very sweet”
Why was her father Unclad? With his trousers at his ankles?

And who was the other person in the room!?

Was that udoka her elder sister? Wasn’t she supposed to be in her husband’s house? When had she come back? Why had she come back?
It was all in front of her!

He quickly pulled out, grabbed the nearest clothing, covered himself and barked at little Philomena to leave the room, they had forgotten to lock the door to the bed and this stupid child should have knocked!

Ever since that day little philomena became interested in knowing what she saw, they had never spoken about it but she knew better than to tell her mother else her father would kill her as he always promised to whenever he found her erring…

“philomena you are going to Lagos, next week, you will get married to idigo Benson, a successful young man, he will take care of you and take care of us too, he has already paid your bride price which you see I used to buy isi ewu for the soup we ate yesterday night, any questions?”

She knew better than to ask her father silly questions, whatever he said was final and demanded no drama after all she most of her friends from school suddenly disappeared to the big city called Lagos too to get married as their parents said so it was her turn now.

The next day after the marriage announcement had been made, philomena dressed for school as usual, barely concentrating during all the classes, infact ever since that day she saw he father slamming himself into her elder sister she had been overcome by a strange feeling… She was excited about seeing the big city called lagos and wondered what her husband would be like… she got home from school in the afternoon only to discover that she forgot the book in which she copied her mathematics assignment!

“ohh no” she hissed as she rushed back to school immediately, on getting to her class…

The class was empty but the sounds kept coming,
