Empire High School - Season 1 - Episode 12

Joseph’s POV
The door to the locker room opened and
Job came in. He was on the team too.
“Captain, Senior Angella is waiting for you”
he said
“Outside? ”
“No.. In the room. Senior Elena is there too”
“Perhaps.. Did you see Kate out there? ” I
asked

“Yes..But She was about leaving when I left
the court” Job replied
I had seen Kate beside Elena during the
game. It was my first time of seeing her in
the court.. and I was surprised! Still I was
glad she had watched me play. I wore my
sports wear and rushed out of the locker
room.
I was greeted by Angella and her girls at
the entrance. She had a frown on her face.
“Hey.. Are you okay?” I asked
I leaned closely but she moved away and
folded her arms.

I ran my hand over my face.
“Now won’t you tell me what exactly is
wrong with you?” I asked
“I should be the one asking you. Tell me
what do you want?”she said
“What do you mean? ”
“Why did you kiss Elena?”
“What?!.. I didn’t -”
“You threw a kiss at her after the game”
I rolled my eyes

“Come on Mama that was a gesture”
“I don’t want you throwing kisses at
anyone” she said sternly
I moved closer
“You’re so jealous Ella” I pinched her cheeks

And her friends giggled at the look on her
face.

“We need to talk” she said
“Please not now.. Maybe after school” I
grazed her cheeks with my knuckles
“Okay”

She kissed my cheeks and walked off with
her girls

I made my way back to the basketball
room. I saw Elena, Temi and Kate in the
court.

Elena threw a ball but it didnt go into the
net. They giggled
“Oh! Why won’t I get it? Joseph would have
scored point” Elena said
She threw the ball at Kate and she caught
it. Kate bounced it and threw it into the net
at a jump and it entered.
Wow! That was amusing!
“Hmm.. So you can even play basketball.
You are just acting like novice” Temi said
“I’m dying to know the real Kate” Elena
demanded
“This is the real Katherine Adebowale”
“So please tell us about your skill” Temi
said

“My best sport is Basketball..same with my
big brothers”
“You have siblings?”
“Yes, 5 big brothers, all married except one
who is studying in Italy” She said
“Wow! I used to think you are the only
child” Elena Said
“Last Born and the only female child” Kate
said

“Well my brothers taught me how to play
basketball”
She said again
“So you have a court in your home?” Elena
asked

“Yes.. But in our home in US” she answered
“Oh! Then I guess your parents are super
Rich!” Elena said in a surprised tone
“There’s nothing special about it”
“You’ve been abroad.. ”
“Yes”

Then Elena glanced around the room and
her gaze fell on me
“Joseph!” She waved
They were surprised
Kate looked away from me and threw the
ball to Temi. I went to them.
“How long have you been standing there?
“Temi asked
I scratched my ear
“Ahm.. Not too Long.. ”
“Oh.. so you heard everything?” Elena
asked
I nodded

“Kate I never knew you could play
basketball” I said
She didn’t respond
Temi passed the ball to me, I bounced it
and threw it into the net.
“Let’s play” I announced
The girls exchanged glances
“I’ll take my leave now” Kate said
She started to walk away
“Are you going to be at the court next
week?”
I asked
She stopped and faced me
“No” she said
“Why?”
I threw the ball at her and she caught it.
Kate toyed with it for a second and
directed it back to me.
“Does my presence guarantee your
victory?”

She asked with a deep frown
“You can be my source of inspiration to
scoring more points” I answered with a
shrug and threw the ball in the net again.
“Look, why are you do pricky towards me?
I’m a nice person, they can testify.. ” I
pointed to Elena and looked at Temi
“Yes Mr Basketball we know you are nice”
Elena said

“Can I go now?” Kate cuts in
“You can try me ” I said to her
“I mean let’s be friends” I said
Kate stared at me
Looking straight into those eyes, they are
the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen.
Oh! That not cool! I shouldn’t shouldn’t
thinking otherwise about her. I have a
girlfriend! Angella Benson!

I waited for her respond but none came
from her. I heard her say some words but I
couldn’t make sense of them. Kate turned
and moved out of the room. I exchanged
glances with the other girls.

“Don’t pressure her” Temi Said
“Well I think she’s scared of something”
Elena said

“Scared of what? Me? ”
“No, its more than just you” Temi shook
her head
“Your girlfriend is enough to scare
Katherine” Temi replied with a shrug and
she made her way to the door
“Let’s go Elena!”she said loudly
Elena waved at me before running of to
meet Temi.

Angella shouldn’t be the reason why
Katherine won’t be friends with me.
Andgella is my Girlfriend! Yes I know! But I
also want to be close to kate!
Why? Well I don’t know.. I just found
myself thinking she’d atleast pay me some
attention.

Hmm Joseph at Work!
Well I think I like Kate attitude towards
Joseph. She’s not drawn to him like other
girls instead it the other way round with
Kate!
