To a house where they were in need of a maid, I had been told, “No offense, dear. But I have young kids and I doubt they’d be able to adjust to your-”
“My face?” I had said, completing her sentence for her.

“Yes. Am truly sorry. Would have loved to-”
But I was gone.

A man who had been looking for a waitress had said. “Sister, you’ll be serving people food. Do you think they’d have much appetite after seeing-”
“My face?”
He tried to explain himself but I was gone.
In a pub I had been told. “No job vacancy. Sorry.”

And yet the sign outside clearly read to say they were looking for a bar-tender.
It’s not your fault, I thought as I left the pub. It’s those traitors’ fault. And they’ll dearly pay for making me humiliate myself in such a manner. I who had once been driven to work to and fro by a chauffeur now has to roam the streets? You’ll pay dearly!
As I walked, I hit my right foot against a stone and one of my toes began to bleed. “S--t!” I cursed under my breath, clutching my toe and sitting under the shed of a large mango tree. “You’ll pay for this too!”
When evening came, I was still in town, stranded. I literally had no money on me, no food, no place to go, no nothing!

At 8 PM, I decided to give Mrs. Zimba a call so that I could at least spend the night at her place. She asked me where I was and I told her to pick me up at Kamwala bus station.
“Am actually in town,” she said, “will be there in about fifteen minutes.”
“Good.”

After ten minutes of waiting, a van pulled up right in front of me and before I knew it, I was dragged inside by unknown men. All of them had masks on.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked in panic, trying to free myself from the strong man that was now holding me, dragging me into the van.

“Shut her up!” yelled the driver.
Seconds later, a cloth was stuffed in my mouth. Then my phone buzzed.
“Lord help me.” I silently prayed.
But one of the abductors got it and threw it out the window. With it went all my hope of being saved.

“But what are we going to do with her?” one of the men asked. “Just take a look at her face. She’s an ugly duck!”
“She might be ugly,” chorused the man who was holding me, “but that doesn’t mean her p---y doesn’t function. We’ll f--k her and kill her, simple!”

They all burst into raucous laughter. I tried everything possible to free myself but it was impossible. The men were too strong for me. I felt like I was dreaming. How was it possible for one to he kidnapped just like that?

The van was now driving towards Kabwe town. We were literally in the middle of nowhere when another van overtook the one we were in. The van parked right in front of this one, blocking our way.

About five armed masked men came out from the other van, surrounding the one I was in. The men in this van hurriedly produced guns from under the chairs and they went out. It’s like they just forgot I was here as they left me inside the van. Next thing I knew, gunshots were being fired and people were being shot. The ear splitting noises forced me to shut my eyes. When all was quiet, I opened them. Only four men were on their feet now and two of them were approaching the van I was in.

S--t! I thought. Am dead!
“Marcus!” yelled one of the men, wrenching the door open. “There’s someone inside!”
“Pl- Ple- please,” I stammered, I’d managed to get the cloth out of my mouth. “don’t kill me. I don’t know anyt-”
“Will you shut the f--k up!” yelled the other man.

The other two masked men came over. “I’ve seen all the members of the gang,” said one of them, “she ain’t one of them.”
“Should we get rid of her?” the other one asked, this one was a female!
Now tears began streaming down my cheeks.

The man I guessed to be Marcus shook his head. “No, her scar’s enough to make me pity her. Take her to the van, get the bag and get rid of all this collateral damage.” he added, rudely stepping over a corpse.
