CATHY’S POV.
I slowly opened my eyes, scanning my surrounding. I didn’t need to be a genius to make out I was in a hospital ward. There was a stranger sitting on a four legged chair besides me.

“Where am I?” I asked, my voice was hoarse. It was like I hadn’t uttered a word for years! My throat was dry, so was my mouth.

“She’s awake!” the man exclaimed, leaning closer so that his face was now hovering on top of mine. He was handsome but a stranger nonetheless. “You’re in a hospital.” he said.
“Hospital?”
He nodded. “Do you recall your name?”
“Yeah, am Cathy. Why?” I said incredulously.

“Do you recall what happened to you?”
Upon hearing this question, everything painfully unfolded before my eyes. It was so vivid!

“No.” I lied. I wasn’t ready to share that painful experience with anyone.
The man heaved a sigh. “Doctor!” he called.
A doctor came in and examined me.
“She says she recalls her name but doesn’t recall what happened to her.” said the man whom I had come to know as Mr. Zimba. “Doctor, what do you reckon’s the problem?”

“She might be suffering from partial memory loss.”

Mr. Zimba turned out to be my knight in shining armor. From him, I came to learn that I had been in a comma for four months.
“Four months?” I shot him an incredulous look.

He fervently nodded. “Yes dear. My wife and I have been taking turns to come and check on you. I’ve cartered for all your hospital bills…”
“That’s so kind of you.”

“Are you sure you don’t recall anything else apart from your name?” Mr. Zimba pressed on.

I shook my head in denial.
Silence.

“Where’s the bathroom?” I asked, breaking the silence.

Mr. Zimba asked a nurse to guide me. I stepped into the bathroom and went straight to the toilet. When I was done easing myself, I decided to wash my hands. That’s when I saw it.

“No!” I screamed, clutching my whole face.
It was the first time I’d seen myself in a mirror since I had regained consciousness and I must admit, what I saw was horrendous. It made my skin craw…
